A Love Guru, but It Was All for Nothing
Barely mustering his strength, Lupin saw Loren out the door, then sat back down in his chair. In the dim candlelight, the moving pictures on the newspaper blurred into swaying grayish-white patches...
The Werewolf Code of Conduct was promulgated in 1637. According to the code, Werewolf must sign a pledge not to attack others and must lock themselves in a safe place each month. They must also stay away from markets and villages for a few days around the full moon...
The regulations in the document are not very strict; Werewolf are required to report to the Ministry of Magic and consciously abide by the regulations.
A few Werewolf believed this story and voluntarily registered to confess their Werewolf identities, registering their names and personal characteristics. However, the consequences that followed were somewhat unexpected—
The Ministry of Magic has released information on registered Werewolf.
As a result, vendors in the market began to refuse to sell things to Werewolf, such as black bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, dry firewood and coal; waiters in taverns began to resist serving Werewolf, and if a Werewolf was sitting at the bar drinking, even the most incoherent drunkard would move away and make room for him.
Then came the suspicions surrounding various unsolved cases: whose livestock died or escaped? It must have been the Werewolf's doing; whose child fell down a chimney? It must have been the Werewolf's doing; theft, robbery, murder... Werewolf suddenly became the Aurors' closest confidants.
After this situation persisted for some time, the "Werewolf Code of Conduct" became meaningless, and no Werewolf was willing to reveal their identity anymore.
For a long time afterward, wizarding governments in various countries began to consciously restrict the range of Werewolf' activities, attempting to let them slowly die out over a long period of time.
However, no one expected that the number of Werewolf would not decrease, but instead increase, and now they have become a force that cannot be ignored.
Lupin wasn't worried about his future. With Dumbledore's assurance and Loren's help, he could always use the power of the Sorcerer's Stone to control his Werewolf Disease. But he also knew that this treatment could only save a small number of Werewolf ...
His decades of wandering experience made it difficult for Lupin Remus to ignore the changes taking place within the Werewolf pack, and the possible conspiracies lurking behind those changes.
Fifteen minutes, or half an hour— Lupin couldn't remember how long he had been sitting. After hearing the clock on the wall chime on the hour, Lupin got up, tidied his desk, and headed towards the Hospital Wing with the Wolfsbane Potion in his pocket.
Half an hour before lights out.
Loren, leaving the Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor's office, encountered a portrait of Sir Cadogan and accompanied the knight and his grey pony on an expedition, all the way to the entrance of the Gryffindor Tower.
From afar, I saw Harry sitting at the entrance to the Portrait Hole, his hands supporting his head, looking worried and occasionally letting out a melancholy sigh.
The Fat Lady in the pink silk dress leaned her head against the picture frame, patiently comforting him. "If you ask me, little one, there's nothing to be sad about at your age. You still have decades ahead of you, to savor delicious wine, to enjoy the warm sunshine, the gentle breeze—"
As the Fat Lady spoke, she couldn't help but put her hands together and sing.
Harry sighed and said solemnly, "You'll understand when you get to my age."
"..."
The Fat Lady stopped singing and silently hid behind the stone in the portrait.
Loren smiled, took a few steps over to him, and squatted down, following the direction of his gaze. "What happened? Why isn't the invincible Seeker Harry Potter inside celebrating at the party? Why is he standing outside the Common Room in the cold wind?"
Harry remained motionless, his eyes indifferent, his tone as profound as a philosopher's. "Someone like you will never understand."
"So what if he liked Qiu Zhang and now he's heartbroken?" Loren said casually as he sat down with one leg to the side.
Harry's philosophical demeanor vanished instantly. He glanced around nervously, and only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that no one else had heard him.
Harry's gaze shifted as he looked at Loren, then after a moment of silence, he tentatively asked, "Mind reading?"
"It's Legilimency." Seeing Harry's face turn red instantly, Loren couldn't help but chuckle. "Just kidding, you believed that?"
Harry paused, sighed, and lowered his head again, seemingly silent.
Loren didn't care. He propped himself up with his hands, looked up at the ceiling of the corridor, and said, "Harry, have you ever thought about whether you really like Cho Chang?"
"Of course!" Harry replied readily, his tone somewhat hurried, as if trying to prove himself.
"So what do you like about her?"
"She--"
Harry was stunned. He opened his mouth, then suddenly realized he couldn't answer the question.
"Let me tell you..." Loren's voice was soft, echoing faintly in the long, enclosed corridor. "You met Cho Chang on the Quidditch Pitch. Oh, no, you wouldn't even say you met her; you just heard her name from others. Cho Chang probably knows you too, after all, you're Harry Potter, the Chosen One survived a great calamity. Few in the Wizarding World don't know you, and you're the invincible youngest Seeker. Nobody at Hogwarts doesn't know you..."
"You and Qiu Zhang have barely exchanged a few words. You don't know her habits, her personality, or what kind of pudding she likes... In short, you quickly decided that you liked her without ever thinking about what you liked about her."
Loren turned to look at him. "Is it because you like her appearance?"
Harry thought about it carefully, nodded, and then quickly shook his head.
"Yes," Loren smiled. "Cho Chang is beautiful, but there are girls at Hogwarts who are even more beautiful than her. So, do you like her status?"
"Identity?" Harry asked, puzzled. "What identity?"
"Asian, Ravenclaw, Seeker... all sorts of identities."
Harry fell into thought, and after a moment he looked up at Loren with even more confusion, unsure whether to nod or shake his head.
"See, you don't understand her personality. You don't like her because of her looks, or because of her status." Loren paused briefly, giving Harry some time to think. "Then what is it that you like?"
Gryffindor Common Room, the young wizards were celebrating their victory of the day.
Having defeated Hufflepuff Ravenclaw, this means that if they can defeat Slytherin, Gryffindor will also win this year's House Cup.
The Weasleys' Wildfire Whiz-bangs I bought from Hogsmeade at the end of last month came in handy. The Exploding Snap sounds and various colored smokes never stopped, and all kinds of candies rained down, filling the air with a sweet aroma.
After the cream cake was cut, Fred and George were the first to start the fray, smearing cream on everyone's faces, leaving no one out of sight. The farce only stopped when Wood and Percy, their faces covered in cream, finally snapped and got angry.
The Weasleys' Wildfire Whiz-bangs continued to pop despite the effort, but the young wizards toned it down considerably, and the celebration gradually returned to normal.
Hermione, have you seen Harry, and Loren too?
Lee Jordan, his face covered in cream, found Hermione reading a book in the corner of the common room, his face beaming with excitement. "Today's commentary was brilliant! I must ask him for advice; I'll definitely be able to use it next time we face Slytherin."
Hermione paused for a moment, then advised, "Professor McGonagall has banned Loren from approaching the commentary booth. I think you'd better not try to imitate his commentary style."
"Hehe...you don't know this, do you?" Lee Jordan raised his eyebrows and said smugly, "If I could commentate on a game like Loren, Hogwarts would definitely leave its own legend, even if I could never commentate on Quidditch Match again, I would still be willing."
Seeing his hopeful expression, Hermione wisely refrained from further persuasion. "Loren has gone out and we don't know when he'll be back. You should try looking for him tomorrow."
"What a pity..." Lee Jordan shook his head and walked away, the pure white cream stains on his dark skin looking particularly comical.
Hermione closed the book and glanced at the clock on the wall.
After some calculations, Loren figured it was about time for her to return, and she also wanted to ask about Professor Lupin's condition. There were many things she couldn't say in the crowded Common Room ...
Hermione thought for a moment and decided to go outside and wait for Loren to return.
Pushing past the Gryffindor reached the exit of the common room. Just as Hermione was about to climb into the Portrait Hole tunnel and push open the door, she suddenly saw a figure crouching behind the stone door—
The Common Room was bustling with excitement and jubilation, the sounds of Weasleys' Wildfire Whiz-bangs exploding incessantly, and the young wizards laughing and joking under the bright lights. In stark contrast to the joyous atmosphere behind them, the little girl huddled in the shadows behind the Portrait Hole, where, in the darkness, faint traces of her still-wet tears were visible on the ground.
Hermione felt it was inappropriate to stumble upon such a thing, and instinctively turned to leave, but then thought better of it and stayed.
The slightly thick autumn magic robe, with long red and gold lines embroidered on the sleeves, suggests that he had been huddled here since returning from outside and hadn't had time to change. The little boy had fiery red hair, a classic beautiful face, about the size of a palm, still with some baby fat that hadn't fully developed, making his chin appear only slightly pointed. He had fair skin and a few playful freckles—far fewer than his brother's.
Hermione thought there were few girls in the whole school prettier than Ginny, and that she was cheerful and outgoing, with the traditional Weasley family character. According to Lavender and Parvati, she would definitely be very popular with other boys in the future.
And now, the beautiful Miss Weasley is curled up here forlornly, looking dejected.
Hermione had a vague idea of what was going on, but she wasn't entirely sure. She went over and knelt down next to Ginny, patting her shoulder reassuringly.
Just as she was about to say something to comfort Ginny, she suddenly heard a familiar voice outside:
"So what do you like?"
Ginny, who had her head buried in her arms, twitched her ears and suddenly looked up, her beautiful brown eyes Winky in the shadows.
"Huh? What do you like..."
Harry then realized that what he had always thought he liked was completely unrealistic.
Qiu Zhang's appearance, temperament, identity...
He seemed to like them all, yet he was absolutely certain that he didn't like Qiu Zhang because of these things.
Loren put his arm around Harry and patted him on the shoulder. "You don't know Cho Chang at all, and you don't even like her. It's just that many of her qualities happen to attract you. Perhaps after you get to know her better, you will truly like Cho Chang, but not now."
Harry blinked. "What trait?"
"Hmm..." Loren thought for a moment, "She's pretty, likes Quidditch, Seeker, has good grades... and so on, basically all those things that are immediately noticeable."
After this explanation, Harry felt his frustration and depression dissipate considerably. Reflecting on Loren's words, he couldn't help but complain, "You make me sound like a shallow guy."
"It's not just a possibility, it's an absolute certainty." Loren concluded firmly, slapping his shoulder with a resounding thud. "Imagine, if there were a girl around your age, very pretty, with excellent grades, and coincidentally, she loved Quidditch, was a Seeker like you, and was also very good at the game...wouldn't you be interested in liking her?"
Harry thought about it seriously for a while, considering the conditions Loren had mentioned, and shamefully found that he was actually a little tempted. Harry fell into an eerie silence.
Loren chuckled twice, bumped Harry's shoulder with his own, and teased with a wicked grin, "Right? Right?"
Harry's face began to flush, turning red all the way down to his ears, and he mumbled a single word from his throat, "Mmm."
Inside the wall, Ginny's eyes Winky like candles on a cake. She excitedly grabbed Hermione's hand, her cheeks flushed as well.
Harry, who was being teased by his roommate, was indignant. He stuck out his neck and retorted, "And you, what do you like about Hermione?"
"Elementary school student..." Loren chuckled indistinctly, propping himself up with his hands again, looking at the torches on the wall, and letting out a long breath.
"I love everything about Hermione Granger, her beautiful eyes, her slightly protruding front teeth..."
"Her intelligence, her somewhat terrible personality..."
Harry listened quietly as Loren announced his somewhat uncouth remarks in a triumphant tone. He couldn't quite describe how he felt, but he found the joy hidden in that tone wonderful and made him unconsciously yearn for it.
The last thing he heard was Loren's attempt to sound profound, but which failed. "... Feelings don't develop from just a few meetings and a few words. They develop when we walk together on a long, well, not-so-long road, and it just happens without us even realizing it. You wouldn't understand even if I told you."
Loren nudged the silly Harry, gave the Fat Lady the password, and the two returned to the Common Room.
Looking around, Loren found the little Witch reading a book by the fireplace.
Loren sat down next to Hermione and glanced at the book's cover. "Reading ' Transfiguration Today ' again. You've practically memorized this issue by now."
"..."
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Loren looked at her suspiciously. "Why is your face so red? Lavender and Parvati hit you with cream?"
"No, no," Hermione said softly. "The fire in the fireplace is too strong; it's a bit hot."
"Is it hot? It's alright, not hot at all."
Hermione watched the flames rising from the fireplace, their crimson color swirling endlessly, radiating a warm heat that seemed to flow into one's heart in waves.
The firewood crackled and popped, and the girl said softly:
"It's hot..."
