There were two exams today: Astronomy and Divination.

Wizarding Astronomy did not involve so many complicated, tedious formulas. There was no need to calculate which gravitational forces affected Jupiter, no need to calculate the rotational periods of satellites in different orbits, and no need to distinguish the material compositions of celestial bodies at different levels. The short-answer questions merely required them to list as many satellite names as possible.

The main reading-analysis question concerned signs of life on Mars, requiring them to analyze whether creatures such as rats might exist there. The young wizards did not know the correct approach to the question, but guided by ordinary common sense, they still filled the answer space to the brim.

The Divination exam took place in the afternoon. There were no theory questions; they went straight into practical testing.

Since it was an elective, people like Hermione, who had not chosen the subject, did not need to take the exam at all. There were far fewer examinees than in the previous compulsory subjects, so the test went by quickly.

After hearing his name, Loren entered the Great Hall and was surprised to find that Professor Marchbanks was once again the Divination examiner.
