A burly middle-aged man built like a bear made his way along the lush green mountain path. The mist ahead grew thicker and thicker, and his expression was somewhat dazed.
A few years ago, when he had escorted Vincent during his transfer, he had climbed the mountain to Ilvermorny under the guidance of a servant. After arriving, he had bought a carriage at the wizarding market for several hundred Galleons. He could not remember what magical creature had pulled it—Thestrals or perhaps a Thestral. At the time, he had thought Ilvermorny was too remote, and since Vincent had transferred there midway through school, traveling up and down the mountain would be troublesome, so he had left the carriage and its beasts of burden with him.
After receiving news of Vincent's disappearance, he had specifically sent people to search the mountain paths and had personally searched part of the area as well.
It was summer, and the vegetation was dense. Ancient trees flourished, and occasionally he could see vipers disguised as leaves coiled on the ground. Wheel tracks remained along the roadside.
There was no path ahead. Old Crabbe could not tell which direction he was facing; he only knew he should be heading upward. He simply forced his way through the thick weeds, trampling out a narrow trail with his body. Ilvermorny's Castle stood atop the mountain, but the mist was too thick and the forest too dense. The Bushes and weeds all looked alike. Though he was clearly climbing, after circling around several times, he ended up back where he had started.
Unfortunately, Ilvermorny had protective magic set up here, preventing anyone from using Apparition to appear directly at the school gates.
