Soft light filled the room.
Loren lay on the bed, staring blankly at the strip lights on the hotel ceiling, emptying his mind to make room for imagination, with the sound of water splashing from the bathroom in his ears.
He had miscalculated.
The hotel he had chosen was far too upscale. The bathroom was actually a separate room, and it was not even made of glass. He could not see so much as a shadow.
The water trickled on. The sound of hot water splashing down was somewhat gentle, as though the mist had softened it.
If he cast Transfiguration on the wall right now and opened a small gap, or used a Switching Spell to turn the concrete wall into glass, perhaps he could see that graceful figure through the mist...
Loren stopped himself in time, abandoning this new and unpublishable direction for magical applications. He continued to put his rich imagination to work, drawing on fragments of memory to build fantasies.
But it was already late, and his exhausted brain chose to clear its background processes and rest for a while.

Loren yawned and emptied his mind again.
Thinking about it carefully, there were actually plenty of spells suited to the current situation. But doing that would be too strange. They were lovers who had confessed their feelings to each other. If he wanted to do something, there was no need for crooked schemes or sneaking around. Besides, this suite only had one bedroom. The night was still long, and so was the future...
The bathroom water suddenly stopped. Loren instinctively sat up and could not help glancing toward the door, only for the sound of rushing water to start up again inside.
