|---|---|---|
| First-Level God | 183 | Holds the Sea God Godhood, manifested as a sea-blue, beating “heart.” Ratio judges his strength far above that of Godslayer Hypnos. |
| Strengthened First-Level God | 187 197 | Ratio separates part of his Sea God authority into the Ocean God Goddess Godhood for Bo Saixi. Her growth feeds power back to Poseidon without weakening him. |
| First-Level God with four subordinate godhoods | 199 | Ratio creates four generic Third-Level subordinate godhoods for Sea Dragon Douluo and three others. Their eventual growth will likewise return power to Poseidon. |
| Peak First-Level God | 227 253 | Recognized as having reached the peak of First-Level God strength. Ratio predicts that his path of subdividing authority could eventually lead him to the God King level. |
Background / History
Poseidon ascended from Douluo Continent after obtaining the Sea God Godhood. The Deep Sea Demonic Whale King later claimed that he had discovered the godhood first but could not refine it before Poseidon acquired it, creating a lasting resentment between them. 183 206
Unlike many gods of the God Realm, Poseidon finds the mortal world lively and enjoyable. He descends not only to investigate Ratio on the God Realm's behalf, but also to experience mortal life and search for a possible inheritor. 181 185
After observing Ratio, Poseidon openly reveals that the God Realm fears him and voluntarily becomes Ratio's student after receiving an evaluation of his Soul Tool. He subsequently offers his own Godhood for Ratio's research, despite recognizing that a God Position can become a restraint on its holder. 181 183
Appearance
Poseidon is a broad, tall man who first descends clad in blue-green armor and surrounded by a sacred blue radiance that puts onlookers at ease. 181
- Blue-green armor during his descent to Spirit City. 181
- Sea-blue Godhood manifested from his chest as a pulsing heart-like object. 183
- After touching a petal contaminated by the God of Evil's aura, everything above his neck turns black, earning him the “Black-Faced God” appearance. 195 196
Personality
Poseidon is candid, sociable, and markedly less solemn than his divine status suggests. He bluntly tells Ratio that the God Realm sent him out of fear, mocks the God-Kings' excessive caution, and openly prefers the variety of the mortal world to the God Realm's monotony. 181 184
He is curious and ambitious in matters of power and knowledge. He readily becomes Ratio's experimental subject, seeks feedback on his Soul Tools, and eagerly pursues the possibility of becoming a God King. 181 187 199
His enthusiasm often becomes recklessness. After watching Ratio precisely divide his Godhood, Poseidon attempts the procedure himself, nearly shattering his Godhood and dying before Ratio repairs it. 188 He can also be mischievous or opportunistic, such as provoking the Golden Dragon King in hopes that Ratio would eliminate him. 255 256
Abilities & Skills
Sea God Godhood and Divine Power
Poseidon possesses the Sea God Godhood, granting him First-Level divine power and immortality through his Divine Soul.
- His divine power is described as that of a peak First-Level God. 253
- His Godhood can be awakened from his chest and externally observed. 183
- A God Position draws its holder toward the God Realm; gods generally need an official duty or mortal reincarnation to leave it. 183
- Poseidon considers the God Position restrictive: maintaining the Divine Soul gradually leaves gods less able to control their bodies. 182
- The God of Evil's residual aura can contaminate his Godhood despite Poseidon's divine strength. 195
Subordinate Godhood Network
Ratio proves that Poseidon's Sea God authority can be divided into subordinate Godhoods without reducing Poseidon's power.
- Bo Saixi receives the Ocean God Goddess Godhood and becomes a true god whose power feeds back into Poseidon. 187 188
- Four additional subordinate godhoods are created for Sea God Island's Titled Douluo guardians. 199
- Ratio estimates that Poseidon's authority could potentially be divided into more than thirty godhoods, including First-, Second-, and Third-Level Godhoods. 188
- Poseidon cannot safely perform the division himself; his attempt nearly shattered both his Godhood and body. 188
Combat
Poseidon is a formidable close-combat god who fights with a trident and overwhelming sea-aspected divine power.
- His divine-power eruption during his tournament battle with Di Tian is strong enough to terrify the spectators. 253
- He impales Di Tian through the heart with the Sea God Trident, inflicting a fatal wound until the Goddess of Life intervenes. 253
- He later forfeits the match alongside Di Tian after showing remorse for the injury. 253
Soul Tool Craftsmanship
Poseidon studies Soul Tools under Ratio and demonstrates strong memory and technical aptitude.
- He presents a trident Soul Tool weighing roughly thirty thousand jin for Ratio's assessment. 181
- Ratio classifies the weapon as a Fifth-Level Soul Tool, while criticizing its reliance on shortcuts and limited practicality. 181
- Ratio advises him to improve its kinetic-energy transfer. 181
- During Ratio's critique session, Poseidon's work receives suggestions rather than the severe criticism given to several other students. 186
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Trident Soul Tool — A roughly thirty-thousand-jin Fifth-Level Soul Tool reinforced through sturdiness and weight Core Arrays. 181
- Sea God Trident — Used in his battle against Di Tian, where it pierces Di Tian's heart. 253
- Sea God Godhood — His core divine authority, appearing as a sea-blue heart and serving as the source for subordinate godhoods. 183 199
Relationships
- Dr. Ratio — Student and research collaborator. Poseidon trusts Ratio with his Godhood, accepts his instruction, and becomes one of his strongest advocates among the gods. 181 183 232
- Bo Saixi — His High Priestess and the first recipient of a subordinate godhood derived from his authority; she becomes the Ocean Goddess. 187 188
- Asura God — Fellow God King with whom Poseidon frequently argues. Asura criticizes Poseidon's rash cooperation with Ratio, while Poseidon teases him into appreciating mortal cuisine. 185 196
- Five Great God-Kings — Divine peers who initially distrust his experiments with Ratio, then witness his subordinate-godhood system succeed. 188 199
- Di Tian — Initially hostile because of the God Realm's history with Soul Beasts, but eventually treated as a fellow student of Ratio. Their tournament battle ends after Poseidon nearly kills Di Tian and both forfeit. 198 253
- Seven Elemental Gods — Allies who credit Poseidon with showing them the path toward Ratio's guidance; Poseidon envies their World God fusion. 227 231
- Deep Sea Demonic Whale King — A historical rival who resents Poseidon for acquiring the Sea God Godhood the whale had failed to refine. 206
- Golden Dragon King — Poseidon attempts to provoke him into attacking Spirit City so that Ratio will intervene. 255 256
Story Role / Major Arcs
Investigation of Ratio
Sent by the God Realm to investigate Ratio, Poseidon instead openly exposes the gods' fear of Ratio, requests feedback on his Soul Tool, and becomes Ratio's student. 181
Godhood Division Experiments
Poseidon allows Ratio to study and divide his Sea God Godhood. This produces Bo Saixi's Ocean God Goddess Godhood and later four subordinate godhoods for Sea God Island's guardians, proving that divine authority can be safely expanded through a network of subordinate gods. 187 199
God Realm Liaison
Poseidon repeatedly relays Ratio's achievements to the God-Kings and urges them to cooperate with him. His experiences become key evidence that Ratio can strengthen gods and alter conventional understanding of Godhood. 197 209
Soul Tool Era and Space Exploration
As Ratio's student, Poseidon befriends Di Tian, escorts the God-Kings to observe the Soul Tool Divine Boat, and joins them in witnessing the universe from the vessel's space. 198 203
Tournament Battle with Di Tian
Poseidon faces Di Tian in the Soul Douluo Tournament. His unleashed power fatally wounds Di Tian, but the Goddess of Life saves him; remorseful, Poseidon forfeits the match. 252 253
Temples and the Golden Dragon King
After gods descend to Douluo Continent to establish faiths, Poseidon orders the creation of a Seagod Temple using Sea God Island's existing influence. He later tries to use the Golden Dragon King to force Ratio's intervention and is assigned flood-control work as punishment. 261 256
Notable Quotes
“Those old fellows in the God Realm fear your power, so they sent me to investigate.” 181
“Compared to them, Douluo Continent is much more enjoyable.” 181
“Once I finish splitting all my subordinate godhoods, I'll definitely become a God-King.” 199
Trivia
- Poseidon enjoys mortal food despite gods not needing to eat, and considers food part of the appeal of the mortal world. 185
- He spent two months recuperating after nearly destroying his own Godhood through an amateur attempt at splitting it. 188 198
- He refuses Ratio's help in removing the God of Evil's contamination because doing so would give Ratio greater control over the Sea God Godhood than Poseidon himself possesses. 195
- Ratio states that Poseidon's complete God Position cannot merge with another god's; his route to the God King level is through gradual development of his own authority. 227
