History

Ancient eras

The Human Race was once powerful enough to suppress the Demon Race. Human sects maintained positions within the Demon Lands under an ancient pact, where they monitored and intimidated demon activity. Over countless ages, the balance reversed: the Demon Race rose while humanity fell into subordination. 1340

During an earlier invasion by Demon Gods, more than half of the Human Realm was devastated and humanity nearly faced extinction. Great Emperor Fengdu, originally of the Human Race, led Netherworld ghost gods into battle against the Demon Gods; the Netherworld was nearly destroyed in the process. The God Realm later claimed credit for repelling the demons. 201

The Demon Quelling Sword God, Ji Wushang, became a central figure in humanity’s past resistance. In an age when a million-strong demon army besieged the Great Xia Imperial Capital, his sword was regarded as an unbreakable barrier for the endangered Human Race. 434

Decline

For roughly ten thousand years, the Human Race has weakened while the Demon Race has grown stronger. Although human geniuses continued to emerge, none reached Ji Wushang’s former height, leaving humanity without a comparable champion during renewed demon offensives. 115

This decline fractured human unity. Cities, sects, lineages, dynasties, and battle groups often prioritize their own interests; some humans joined the Demon God Hall or became demonized through factions such as the Seven Demon Sect. 42 1364 1370

The Human Race is not portrayed as a unified state. Great Xia, the Azure Dragon Domain’s Nine Cities, ancient lineages, sects, and Myriad Dynasty cultivators operate under separate interests and frequently distrust one another. 1370 1488 1492

Ancient hidden lineages preserved powerful inheritances in secluded lands. As demon invasions intensified, their descendants began entering the wider world, supplying the Human Race with new King Physique bearers and other exceptional prodigies. 306

Humanity’s division is worsened by traitors. The Demon God Hall consists of humans who defected to the Demon Race, learned beast language, and cultivated half-demon arts. 42 The Seven Demon Sect is similarly described as a human organization that has become demonized and indifferent to humanity’s survival. 1364

Torchfire Glory

Torchfire Glory is the Human Race’s ancient ideal of collective resistance: when demon calamity threatens humanity, private grudges, sectarian disputes, and lineage conflicts are to be set aside for racial survival. 1372

During an earlier near-extinction, human cultivators repeatedly self-detonated their bodies and souls to destroy demon forces and carve out a path of survival. This sacrifice forged the Torchfire Glory and gave the phrase special meaning to both humans and demons. 1379

By the Scarlet Thunder City crisis, the ideal had become little more than a forgotten legend. Xiao Chen’s refusal to abandon fellow humans, despite being a Myriad Dynasty cultivator, helped revive it among the city’s defenders. 1370 1372 1376

Conflict with the Demon Race

The Demon Race is humanity’s principal existential enemy. Demons commonly regard humans as weak prey, food, or “insects,” while human defenders acknowledge that demons possess superior natural physiques and bloodline foundations at equivalent realms. 227 921 1528

Despite this disadvantage, humanity’s population and capacity for collective resistance remain a strategic threat. When tens of thousands of civilians rallied against Dog Demons, the demons recognized that a fearless Human Race could wear them down through attrition. 60

The Fire Demon Saint Race’s campaign against the Nine Cities demonstrates the scale of the conflict: approximately one million human soldiers marched against a comparable demon force, while the demons used Blood Sacrifice to turn slain humans into Sacrificial Flowers. 1492 1504

The Demon Race also deliberately targets human prodigies, viewing them as the “fire of the future” and the foundation of humanity’s eventual revival. 1520
