Background

Great Xia was once a powerful dynasty that intimidated neighboring states. After the Demon Clan connected the Human and Demon Realms, the damaged borderland fell within Great Xia, forcing it to bear the long-term burden of resisting demon incursions. Tens of thousands of years of warfare depleted its experts and national strength, while neighboring human states exploited its decline rather than aiding it. 516

The Blacksun Dynasty became one of Great Xia's most persistent human enemies. A century before the events of the novel, it invaded Great Xia, massacred tens of millions of people, and withdrew only after Great Xia paid a severe price. Its later border incursions continued to threaten Great Xia territory. 516 517

Great Xia's history also includes the war against Bing Yangyu, an ancient demon who controlled the Power of Pestilence. An earlier Xia Emperor severely wounded him at the cost of the 100,000-strong Divine Fire Army; the army's corpse soldiers remained on Blood Corpse Mountain to prevent Bing Yangyu's forces from escaping and attacking Great Xia. 636

Imperial Policy

The Xia Emperor is described as valuing civilian lives and ordering nearby troops to rescue victims of demon massacres. This policy faced opposition from court figures who considered ordinary civilians expendable and opposed risking cultivators to save them. 90

During the Rebirth of Spiritual Energy, the Xia Emperor revealed Great Xia's three Great Emperors rather than allowing the public panic to deepen. Their appearance was intended to deter ancient cultivators, demons, and internal opportunists during a period of widespread disorder. 1021

Great Xia had participated in three previous continent-wide dynasty wars and ranked at the bottom each time. Its historical punishments included tribute payments and the cession of territory, women, and resources to stronger dynasties. 1060

Murders, looting, revenge killings, and other violence spread through the dynasty; roughly one million beings died during about an hour of disorder. Following the Myriad Dynasty War, the Spirit Realm issued a Dynasty-Destruction Edict against Great Xia after Xiao Chen resisted a manipulated selection process that deprived him of a Spirit Realm entry quota.
