| First Appearance | Chapter 93 |
| Novel | Konoha: Reported by the Fourth Hokage on Day One |
Background
The statue was kept in Madara Uchiha's underground chamber, where White Zetsu reported intelligence to him beneath its towering body 132. White Zetsu themselves were created using Hashirama's cells, the Rinnegan, and the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path's power; they could use Wood Release and merge with earth and trees 93.
Madara used the statue's power to control White Zetsu cells implanted in Li Yao. Without that control, those cells would have consumed Li Yao and turned him into nourishment for the statue 159. When Li Yao threatened Madara's position, Madara fled his base with the statue before Li Yao could seize it 219.
Near death, Madara connected himself to the statue with a Black Receiver. It extracted part of his Chakra and returned Six Paths-level Chakra, which Madara used to create Black Zetsu from a White Zetsu body 324.
Appearance
In its sealed-statue form, the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path is mountain-sized and resembles dried wood. It braces itself against the ground with immense weight and has a massive head with nine eyes 406.
- Eight eyes bore pupils when eight Tailed Beasts were sealed inside it; the pupil-less ninth eye corresponded to the still-unsealed Nine-Tails 406.
- When the Nine-Tails' Chakra was merged into it, the statue grew ten tails and its nine eyes became a single enormous eye, restoring its Ten-Tails form 408.
- It can produce Black Receivers and long Sealing Chains from its body 324 407.
Forms and Containment State
| Form / State | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Demonic Statue with eight Tailed Beasts | 406 | Summoned by Li Yao's Obito clone; eight of its nine eyes had pupils, while the Nine-Tails remained outside. |
| Restored Ten-Tails | 408 | The seal on the Nine-Tails was opened and its Chakra merged with the statue, causing it to develop ten tails and a single eye. |
| Sealed within Obito's clone | 408 | Li Yao's Obito clone used the Ten-Tails Sealing Technique to absorb the restored Ten-Tails into himself. |
| Released statue and Tailed Beasts | 416 | Obito's clone ceased suppressing the Ten-Tails' Chakra, releasing the statue and all nine Tailed Beasts from his body. |
| Restored Ten-Tails, then resealed | 429 | After the nine Tailed Beasts were bound again, the statue re-formed into a weaker Ten-Tails and was absorbed into Obito's clone once more. |
Abilities & Functions
Tailed Beast Containment
The statue can house the nine Tailed Beasts and combine their Chakra into the Ten-Tails' Chakra, the foundation of Six Paths-level power 161 408.
- Held eight Tailed Beasts prior to the battle against Naruto; only the Nine-Tails was absent 406.
- Swallowed and sealed the extracted Nine-Tails after its Sealing Chains pulled it from Naruto 408.
- Reconstituted into the Ten-Tails when all nine Tailed Beasts' Chakra was gathered 408 429.
- Its restored Ten-Tails form was weaker upon its second documented revival, with a noticeably reduced Chakra intensity 429.
Sealing Chains
The statue deploys Sealing Chains capable of binding targets, draining Chakra, and extracting Tailed Beasts from their Jinchūriki 407 408.
- Bound Naruto's Shadow Clones and absorbed their Chakra rather than allowing it to return to Naruto 407.
- Wrapped around the Nine-Tails' neck and immobilized Naruto 407.
- Extracted the Nine-Tails from Naruto; part of Naruto's soul was also pulled away as the extraction proceeded 408.
- Bound eight weakened Tailed Beasts simultaneously and pulled the Nine-Tails from Minato's body 429.
Six Paths Chakra Conduit
The statue carries the fused Chakra of the Tailed Beasts and can provide a Rinnegan wielder with a Six Paths-level Chakra enhancement 161.
- Madara used a Black Receiver connection to draw Chakra from it and receive Six Paths-level Chakra in return 324.
- Li Yao considered control of the statue, through the Rinnegan, necessary for gathering the nine Tailed Beasts and producing Ten-Tails Chakra 162.
- Its power was sufficient to sustain Madara's continued actions despite his extreme physical age 161 324.
Ten-Tails Restoration
Opening the seal on the Nine-Tails allows the statue to merge the final Tailed Beast Chakra and become the Ten-Tails 408.
- The transformation radically increases its size and Chakra output 408.
- The resulting Ten-Tails can be sealed into a host through the Ten-Tails Sealing Technique 408.
- The process altered Li Yao's Obito clone, turning his hair white, giving him horns and snow-white skin, and manifesting twelve Truth-Seeking Orbs 429.
Relationships
- Madara Uchiha — Original documented master; housed the statue underground, drew Six Paths Chakra from it, and used its power in creating Black Zetsu 132 324.
- White Zetsu — Their creation involved the statue's power, and Madara used the statue's control over implanted White Zetsu cells during Li Yao's assimilation 93 159.
- Li Yao's Obito clone — Later summoner and controller; used the statue to capture the Tailed Beasts, restore the Ten-Tails, and become its Jinchūriki 406 408 429.
- The Nine Tailed Beasts — The statue's intended contents; their combined Chakra restores it into the Ten-Tails 161 406 408.
- Naruto Uzumaki and Kurama — Opponents whose Chakra and Tailed Beast were targeted by the statue's Sealing Chains 406 407 408.
- Minato Namikaze — Allowed the statue's chains to bind him so the Nine-Tails could be extracted without killing Naruto 429.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Madara's Underground Base
The statue functions as the core resource of Madara's hidden operation: it supports White Zetsu-related experiments, empowers Madara with Six Paths Chakra, and enables his final creation of Black Zetsu 159 324.
Battle Against Sage Gold Nine-Tails Naruto
Li Yao's Obito clone summons the statue with eight Tailed Beasts already sealed inside. Naruto and Kurama immediately recognize that leaving it intact puts them at a severe disadvantage, but its chains absorb Naruto's Shadow Clone Chakra and eventually immobilize the Nine-Tails 406 407.
The statue's chains extract Kurama and seal it inside the statue. With all nine Tailed Beasts' Chakra assembled, the statue transforms into the Ten-Tails and is then sealed into Obito's clone 408.
Second Ten-Tails Sealing
After Obito's clone releases the statue and Tailed Beasts, Minato prevents a straightforward resealing attempt by marking and summoning the Tailed Beasts away 416 418. Once the Tailed Beasts are gathered again, the statue binds them with Sealing Chains, reforms into a diminished Ten-Tails, and is sealed into Obito's clone for a second time 429.
Trivia
- The statue has no documented dialogue; its only recorded vocalizations are roars during its Ten-Tails transformations 408 429.
- The Nine-Tails identifies the statue as a direct countermeasure against Tailed Beasts because it can sense the Chakra of the other eight Tailed Beasts contained within it 406.
