Background / History

Childhood and Jiraiya’s disciple

Naruto grows up isolated and treated as a monster because of the Nine-Tails inside him. Shikamaru and Choji’s friendship, together with occasional warmth from the Third Hokage, helps keep him from succumbing to that hostility. He still carries deep resentment and uses unconventional behavior to vent his emotions 402.

Despite that childhood, Naruto remains cheerful and determined to become Hokage. These qualities lead Jiraiya to accept him as a disciple and firmly believe that he is the Child of Prophecy who can bring peace to the Shinobi World 354.

Dragon Vein and Rōran

Naruto pursues Mukade as the Dragon Vein’s seal is undone. In the past, he encounters Minato’s team after being injured by puppets. Neither father nor son initially recognizes the other, although Minato eventually confirms that Naruto comes from the future 259 326.

Naruto rescues Queen Sarah and joins Minato against Mukade. Li Yao’s intervention changes the confrontation: after defeating Mukade, he captures Minato and teleports Naruto into the desert. Mistaking Minato’s dispersing shadow clone for evidence of his death, Naruto becomes enraged 326 329 332.
