Background

Horus was the first of the Emperor’s Primarchs to return to Terra. Originating from Cthonia, he led the sixteenth of the Emperor’s twenty Legions, the Lunar Wolves, and spent his first thirty years at the Emperor’s side before other Primarchs began returning. He initially resented the loss of that exclusive bond, but came to value the fraternity of his brothers. 60 303

His first recorded meeting with a brother was with Peturabo on Olympia. Horus approached the encounter with curiosity and some private discomfort, particularly around Peturabo’s mentor Mors, but sought to welcome Peturabo into the Emperor’s cause. Their relationship developed quickly through candid discussion and shared combat. 57 58 62

During the boarding of the Black Judgement, Horus led the charge while Peturabo directed the Fourth Legion’s firepower and analyzed the vessel’s defenses. Horus openly praised Peturabo’s command style, beginning a bond that would later become one of his closest relationships. 65 66

The disappearance of the Second Legion deeply affected Horus. He convened with Peturabo, Lion El’Jonson, and Lorgar to investigate the loss, but his emotional investment drew criticism from the Lion, who believed Horus’s concern had compromised his judgment. 379 402 405

Ullanor and the Warmaster Designation

Rogal Dorn and Malcador informed Horus that he was expected to assume a greater imperial role after Ullanor. Horus accepted the Emperor’s oath, swearing to defend humanity and follow the Emperor’s path, then led the final assault on Ullarg’s tower. 441 443

Nemesis Blade Injury

On the eve of the Ullanor celebration, Horus was struck by Daniel’s strange blade while intervening in Erebus’s ambush. He fell into a coma, and Number Eleven later claimed responsibility for orchestrating the assassination and stealing the Nemesis Blade. 444 445 449

While barely conscious, Horus urged Peturabo to take the Warmaster’s responsibilities if his recovery delayed the Imperium. Peturabo accepted the request with a silent squeeze of Horus’s hand. 445

Awakening and the Istvan III War

Horus awoke after a prolonged slumber, restored by the Emperor’s intervention but confronted with an Imperium transformed by rebellion and the Emperor’s deterioration on the Throne. Lorgar accused Peturabo of betraying the Emperor, a claim Horus initially refused to believe. 515

At Istvan III, Horus personally contacted Peturabo and demanded to know whether he had truly chosen rebellion. Peturabo rejected the Emperor as a “False Emperor” and declared that his own path was necessary for humanity, ending their former trust. 518
