Background / History

Protector Mo is an older Protector of the Washing Yan Ancient Sect with decent cultivation. His taciturn nature and poor social skills leave him with an unremarkable standing among the Protectors, making him the one assigned to lead the sect's humiliating and seemingly doomed marriage-alliance assessment at the Nine Sacred Demon Gate. He travels there with Li Qiye and his disciple Nan Huairen. 6

At the Nine Sacred Demon Gate, Mo expects Li Qiye to fail and views the gate's treatment of their party as an inevitable embarrassment. After Li Qiye kills Du Yuanguang, Mo immediately stops Li's bleeding and withdraws him to their courtyard, fearing that the incident will bring disaster upon the Washing Yan Ancient Sect. 10 11

Although initially enraged by Li Qiye's provocations, Mo refuses to hand him over when Xu Hui demands Li's life. He physically blocks Xu Hui's attack and insists that the Nine Sacred Demon Gate judge the matter fairly, even while Hall Master Fu threatens both him and his sect. 11

Li Qiye's later victories, his passage through the Chaotic Heart Forest, and the Four Symbols Stone Men's protection gradually convince Mo that Li's confidence is not empty arrogance. On the return journey, he chooses to stand with Li Qiye rather than the Six Elders, pledging to follow Li's decision despite the risks to his own position. 20 23

Mo subsequently gives the Six Elders an intentionally limited report on the assessment, omitting the Snake-Beating Cudgel and Four Symbols Stone Men while attributing Li Qiye's victory over Xu Hui to luck. Through Li Qiye's arrangement, Mo and Nan Huairen become direct contacts for Chief Protector Yu He, greatly elevating their influence within the Washing Yan Ancient Sect. 24 40 42

Personality

Protector Mo is reserved, blunt, and uncomfortable with social maneuvering. He often responds to Li Qiye's audacious claims with silence, cold snorts, or open frustration, especially when he believes Li is recklessly endangering the sect. 6 11 12

Despite his caution and pessimism, Mo is fiercely protective of his sect's disciples. He attempts to save Du Yuanguang during the duel, treats Li Qiye's injury afterward, and refuses to surrender Li to Xu Hui even when faced with the overwhelming strength of Hall Master Fu and the Nine Sacred Demon Gate. 10 11

Mo is capable of reassessing his judgments. Once Li Qiye's unusual abilities become undeniable, he abandons his initial distrust and makes a dangerous personal commitment to support him. 20 23
