Background

Kazuna was a celebrated Uchiha prodigy during the Third Shinobi World War, known alongside the Yellow Flash as the Crimson Flame. On the eve of victory, he was accused of abandoning his comrades to finish a mission, drawing public condemnation and forcing him into apparent retirement within the Uchiha compound. Shisui, however, never believed Kazuna capable of such an act. 1 4

His retirement is largely a façade. Kazuna retains considerable prestige among younger Uchiha, receives information on clan affairs, and quietly influences important decisions. Reborn with memories of another life and knowledge of the original course of events, he deliberately befriends Shisui and becomes Itachi’s de facto teacher in order to prevent the Uchiha massacre. 1

Kazuna concludes that Hiruzen Sarutobi and Danzō Shimura jointly weakened the Uchiha through alternating repression and appeasement. Rather than support an immediate armed coup, he seeks to make the clan too prepared, too valuable, and too dangerous to destroy cheaply. 2 9

Kazuna affects the manner of an unserious retiree, spending his days with a teacup and birdcage, making jokes even in tense political meetings, and needling allies and opponents alike.
