Background / History

The sect originated after more than two hundred sects united against demonic factions. Although the coalition won, only a little over one hundred sects remained; their survivors became the Hundred Peaks Sect's hundred peaks, with some peaks formed by merged sects. This origin accounts for the sect's many distinct inheritances. Hundred Peaks Cliff was the fiercest battlefield of that war and retains numerous Divine Weapons. 37

Before its Sect Tribulation, the sect had existed for 99,899 years. To become a Great Sect, it needed both to endure for 100,000 years without destruction and survive a Sect Tribulation, which affects every cultivator within the sect. 50

The sect's internal structure includes one hundred peaks, as well as organizations that select members from the peaks rather than directly recruiting disciples, including the Hidden Dragon Institute and Enforcement Hall. Each intake selects two thousand disciples, nominally allocating twenty places to each peak; peaks may trade unused places, but must retain at least two recruitment slots annually. 107 24

During the alien-race siege, the sect's elders and disciples defended the mountain gate at great cost. Elders reinforced the Mountain Guardian Grand Array through secret techniques and self-detonation, while Song Zhong invoked his authority as Mountain Guardian to distribute Divine Weapons from Hundred Peaks Cliff to the defenders. 263 264 265

Many members died in the siege, including nearly all Longevity Realm cultivators with under a thousand years of lifespan. Several peaks lost all of their Immortals, and many Divine Weapons issued for the defense were taken by escaping alien cultivators or retained by allied rescuers after the battle. 271 275

Song Zhong later exterminated the clans that had attacked the sect, completing its vengeance. As Venerables awakened, they resumed constructing the Mountain Guardian Array and guiding newly recruited disciples. 304

Internal conflict and peak politics

Jian Kong, Vice Peak Lord of Formless Peak, was a traitor acting under an ancestor's orders. He was instructed to wait for an opportunity inside the vast sect to assassinate Song Zhong. 166

The peaks frequently competed over Divine Weapons and access to Song Zhong's weapon-drawing ability. Formless Peak and the other Zen peaks contested the Wind Sparrow Wings, while elders from numerous peaks later sought Song Zhong's help in obtaining weapons from Hundred Peaks Cliff. 91 101 110

Siege by alien races

The sect was surrounded by alien cultivators in a major assault. Sect Leader Ouyang Yi ordered a decisive defense and sought outside aid, while Li Huaying proposed that the younger talents escape if the mountain gate fell. Song Zhong refused, declaring himself the Mountain Guardian. 263

As the Grand Array weakened, Yue Yuchen and other elders sacrificed themselves to reinforce it. The array ultimately broke in places, allowing alien cultivators to breach the mountain gate and kill numerous elders and disciples. 264 265

The sect survived until reinforcements arrived from other sects. Its members' sacrifices preserved the sect's inheritance, though the loss of senior cultivators left many peaks without future guidance. 271 275

Relocation and rebuilding

After joining the Thousand Peaks Sect, the sect was renamed the Hundred Peaks Sect and received a new mountain gate with more than a thousand mountain ranges. Piaomiao Sect experts were ordered to help construct a new mountain-gate formation, while members searched the former Thousand Peaks Sect for inheritances left by True Lords, True Immortals, and Immortal Affinity Realm experts. 367

The sect's foundation remained weak even after becoming a Great Sect; it required time to absorb its Heavenly Dao-bestowed inheritances and resources, and depended on outside experts for continued construction. 4

Sect Tribulation and recognition as a Great Sect

Song Zhong constructed a large formation to shelter the sect's members during the Sect Tribulation. When the tribulation descended, it brought not only lightning but flames, ice, gales, poison miasma, corrosive water, and other calamities across the sect. 504 508 509

Song Zhong withstood both the Sect Tribulation and his own Tribulation Lightning while maintaining the protective formation. No disciples inside the formation were lost. Afterward, he announced that the sect would henceforth be known as the Hundred Peaks Sect; it was recognized as a Great Sect and received extensive Heavenly Dao rewards. 510 511

Later reincarnation

In a later reincarnation, all visible traces of the former cultivation world—including Hundred Peaks Sect—were erased and sealed by rules. Song Zhong found and broke the seal, causing the sect and its mountain gate to rise from the ground. 1034

The restored sect became a relic sought by contemporary cultivators, who regarded it as the Great Sect of the Human Clan's strongest historical expert. Its mountain-protecting grand formation denied entry to both righteous and demonic cultivators; Song Zhong, as a cultivator of the sect and inheritor of its legacy, could enter unhindered. 1035 1036
