Background and History
Quirrell traveled to Albania seeking practical experience before taking the Defense Against the Dark Arts post. He encountered Voldemort there and returned to Hogwarts possessed, with Voldemort's face concealed beneath the scarf around his head 39 68 145.
At school, Quirrell presented himself as a frightened, stuttering professor. His first-year lessons drew complaints: he struggled with questions about zombies and Inferi, while his stories about a vampire and the origin of his scarf invited suspicion. Vincent Wayne concluded that the weak persona was deliberate 39 60. Quirrell later admitted to his class that he had been faking his timidity, framing the reveal as a lesson about questioning appearances and authority 94.
Quirrell sought the Sorcerer's Stone for Voldemort. He entered the protected area beneath Hogwarts, passed its obstacles—including Snape's potion puzzle—and discovered that the Stone was not there. Voldemort then demanded unicorn blood from the Forbidden Forest 67 68. Quirrell's efforts to obtain it brought him into conflict with Snape and Vincent; the damage to his body eventually left him with only seven days to live, according to Voldemort 70 80 84 87.
Vincent and five other students later cornered Quirrell. When Quirrell failed to talk his way out, Voldemort took control of his body and revealed himself to them 113. During the ensuing confrontation, Vincent split Quirrell's body with the Sword of Gryffindor 115. Quirrell survived, but his soul was shattered; afterward, he babbled about his master and the Sorcerer's Stone 118.

Personality
Quirrell was capable of planning and deception despite his public show of incompetence. He deliberately played the coward, then abandoned that part of the act when Vincent pressed him about his vampire story 60 94. He could solve the Stone's defenses, but grew fearful when confronted by students using disguises and Muggle weapons 68.
His relationship with Voldemort was driven by fear. Quirrell repeatedly tried to satisfy his master's demands, yet worried about being exposed and questioned whether they were walking into a trap. Voldemort could sense his thoughts and ultimately overrode his control of their shared body 71 101 113.
