Background / History
Ron is the youngest son of the Weasley family. He has five brothers and one sister, Ginny; the size of the family and its limited finances leave him with a very small allowance and an old, inherited wand. 14 15 450
He meets Harry Potter on the Hogwarts Express, where the two bond over wizarding snacks, Chocolate Frog cards, and their excitement about Hogwarts. Ron initially owns six Albus Dumbledore Chocolate Frog cards and eagerly explains the wizarding world to Harry. 14
Before starting school, Ron tries to perform a supposed rat-colouring spell taught by Fred Weasley. The spell fails completely, leading him to realize that Fred had likely pranked him. 15
Ron initially clashes with Hermione Granger, resenting her academic confidence and insulting her after Charms class. After Aaron Gaius calls him out for it, Ron and Harry eventually reconcile with Hermione, establishing the trio's friendship. 28 31
Personality
Ron is outspoken, impulsive, and easily embarrassed, particularly when his family's poverty, his unreliable wand, or his magical shortcomings are exposed. He can be jealous of Harry's fame and deeply insecure when he feels like a sidekick rather than an equal. His resentment causes a serious falling-out with Harry during the Triwizard Tournament, though he later admits his mistake and reconciles with him. 15 151 360 373
Despite his immaturity, Ron is fiercely loyal. He is willing to put himself in danger for his friends, most notably volunteering to sacrifice himself during the enchanted chess game protecting the Philosopher's Stone. He responds strongly to threats against Ginny and recklessly attacks Tom Riddle when he finds her near death. 84 190 191
Ron also grows more responsible over time. His appointment as Gryffindor prefect surprises him, but he takes pride in the role; later defensive training helps him, Ginny, Luna, and Neville recover Harry and Hermione's wands from Slytherins. 450 493
Abilities & Skills
Wizard Chess
Ron is an accomplished Wizard's Chess player and understands the tactical demands of the enchanted chessboard guarding the Philosopher's Stone.
- Takes the knight's position and commands the black pieces against the white side. 83 84

- Survives Aaron's intervention, which blasts him off the board before the White Queen can kill him. 84
Defensive Magic
Ron begins Hogwarts with poor control over his damaged wand, but later receives structured defensive training.
- His early spellcasting is unreliable; his rat-colouring spell fails, and his Eat Slugs curse backfires. 15 149
- Learns the Disarming Charm and Shield Charm through Aaron's training, though his Disarming Charm ranks around the middle of a thirty-student group. 466
- Uses Stunning, Disarming, and Shield Charms with Ginny, Luna, and Neville to overcome armed Slytherin students. 493
- Receives Patronus Charm instruction as a member of the D.A. after Dementors return to Voldemort's side. 477
Quidditch
