Origin and adoption

Bai Xu was an orphan adopted by Bai Tao and Bai Ying when he was three years old. After awakening Innate Full Spirit Power and the Heavenly Eye, he accepted recruitment into the Spirit Pagoda with characteristic calmness. 1

Though he is publicly regarded as a Soul Master with the Heavenly Eye and an elemental Martial Soul, Bai Xu later learns that he does not truly possess a Martial Soul. The Spirit of the Plane resides within him, using its remaining Mysterious Yellow fortune to lodge in his eyes, conceal his otherworldly aura, and grant him the foundation of a Soul Master. 39 104

The secret manual and past selves

Bai Xu cultivates the Secrets of the Human Body Cultivation manual, a path centered on refining the body rather than relying on Soul Power. He recognizes that widespread access to this method could allow ordinary people to rival Soul Masters, fundamentally changing the continent's social order. 2 12

A later Bai Xu, identified as the secret manual's original owner, recounts a cultivation journey spanning more than 10,000 years and multiple universes. He created He Transformation Free Heaven and influenced his past selves to explore different possibilities. 61

Bai Xu eventually acknowledges that he is not from the Douluo Continent. His visions show a white-robed counterpart who defeated cosmic enemies and declared himself the ruler of a universe as the Demon from Beyond the Heavens. 58 60

Despite his ruthlessness toward enemies, Bai Xu is not indiscriminately destructive. He makes alliances when they serve a shared interest, protects those he accepts as companions, and accepts Tong Yu's surrender after destroying the Star Luo Spirit Pagoda. 12 62 121
