Background & History

Yang Qianyuan was born into the Anyong Dynasty's imperial family. His father died early, while his mother observed chastity; when leaving home, he intended to claim that he was studying abroad. His father's spirit beast was also the source of Chu Danqing's Tenchi Dragon's Lingering Will. 246 247

He first approached Chu Danqing under the pretext of seeking a fortune-teller, only to reveal that he himself could calculate fate. Though physically unremarkable, with his five primary attributes averaging roughly 15, he possessed the perception and insight of a Celestial Mechanism practitioner. 246

Yang eventually admitted his royal lineage and identified himself as a member of the dynasty's Qian generation. He later revealed his title as the Prince of Jiaoying through a jade pendant and waist tag marked with “Qian” and “Jiaoying.” Prince Ning was his clan uncle. 264 266

He initially sought freedom from his lineage rather than political power, joining Chu Danqing on the road and offering intelligence, divination, and political insight in exchange for that freedom. 247 253 His predetermined fate, however, foretold that he would become emperor; he also established a connection with a possible future self that could become a threat. 291

Yang Qianyuan is observant, calculating, and highly pragmatic. He consistently examines situations for hidden beneficiaries, supply chains, political backers, and exploitable opportunities, such as identifying Cheng Xunyan as only one link in the Dark Orchid Blood Dew operation. 251

His methods can be ruthless. When considering how to use captives against the Chongde Dynasty, he argued that fear and hatred were equally useful so long as people could be made to obey. He also keeps deductions and long-term plans from Chu Danqing when he believes disclosure would interfere with their execution. 362 383 409

Despite this, Yang respects Chu Danqing's moral boundaries. When Chu refused to endanger innocent Jianghu people merely to create chaos in Tianfu, Yang did not openly challenge the decision and instead supplied a separate method for his own designs. 409
