Background / History

Xianghua Village and Da Bao

Chu Danqing first arrives in Xianghua Village under the name Chu Mo. He is initially perceived as quiet and unremarkable, while the village’s most conspicuous resident is the enormous, ragged Da Bao. 4

After the Cave God demands a sacrifice, Chu Danqing refuses to flee. He instead plans to collapse Fallen Blossom Cave with gunpowder, convincing the Village Chief and villagers to support the operation. The Village Chief gives him a wolf-fang necklace in gratitude. 14

His interest in Da Bao begins as practical concern: Da Bao can become stronger when angered and recover from serious injuries overnight. Chu Danqing later seeks opportunities, cultivation resources, and natural treasures specifically to compensate for Da Bao’s congenital deficiencies. 14 33

Lu Clan Retainer

Following the Green Cliff Stronghold incident, Chu Danqing helps Lu Qiaoyun avoid public humiliation by washing and drying her clothes with equipment stored in his Storage Space. She offers him a position in the Lu Clan, where he is introduced as a retainer skilled in beast taming and spirit summoning. 32 40

While working around Yangxian County, he investigates threats connected to the Three Corpses and the Lu Clan. His use of Appraisal and his ability to direct Da Bao against hidden enemies establish him as more than an ordinary retainer. 32 37

Cultivation and Summoning Development

Chu Danqing receives the Five Elements Spirit Beast Art from Guo Yin after aiding Guo Ming and his associates. He chooses to cultivate it despite its initial low quality, later building a Five Elements Living Spirit Dao Foundation and commanding five array spirits through the Five Elements Spirit Array. 66 67 145

He expands his permanent-summon roster by contracting the Xiang Liu White Snake guardian spirit, Liu Chang Ying, whom he names Da Bai. Unlike Da Bao’s combat-oriented role, Da Bai specializes in support, control, and healing. 142 199

Chu Danqing repeatedly invests Paradise Points, training time, items, and skill crystals into his summons rather than treating them as disposable tools. This includes activating Da Bao’s bloodline, upgrading his Mastery skills, and preserving the True Spirits of his core summons as allies. 199 568 663

Wu Xiang World

In the Wu Xiang World, Chu Danqing enters under the identity of the South Mountain Abbot and is immediately pursued because an impostor, Snowy Owl Old Freak, has used his identity to commit crimes. He resolves the immediate crisis by outmaneuvering the impostor and having Da Bao kill him. 486

He then aids Princess Li Qingying in escaping an arranged marriage in exchange for access to the Heavenly Mirror Divine Skill. With Li Qingying’s Martial Avatar assisting him, Chu Danqing learns the skill, chooses the Twin Body Aspect, and condenses an embryonic Martial Aspect. 487 493 494

His actions in the world draw increasing attention. He is appointed General of Agile Cavalry, while Da Bao receives the rank of General of Chariots and Cavalry, for the defense of Luye Pass against Beishuo. 529

Later Activities

After gaining the Bitter Sea Dragon Gate Guest profession, Chu Danqing increasingly builds his combat style around defensive fields, persistent summons, damage sharing, and large-scale support. His Boundless Sea of Suffering creates a hostile battlefield filled with Other Shore Flower Spirits and Drowning Karma Ghosts. 424 537

During the later escort of Lu Wanyi, he becomes involved in exposing the crimes surrounding Marquis Anle. He refuses to tolerate officials who neglect the common people, declaring that an emperor unable to govern properly should be replaced. 673 675 676

Appearance

Chu Danqing’s physical appearance is described as fairly ordinary, but his high Charm gives him an unusually approachable temperament, social presence, and ability to make favorable first impressions. 695

  • He is often difficult to identify by appearance alone; Da Bao is his most obvious distinguishing feature. 175 391
  • He can appear refined, wealthy, and noble enough to gain deference from local elites. 247 392
  • His demeanor is generally gentle and composed, even when confronting armed or supernatural threats. 205 507
  • He frequently travels with Da Bao, whose size, red hair, and intimidating appearance make the pair highly recognizable. 735 736

Personality

Chu Danqing is pragmatic, resource-conscious, and highly aware of his own limitations. He favors preparation, information gathering, skill development, and overwhelming team advantages over reckless solo combat. 43 148 198

He has a strong instinct to help others when doing so is within his ability. He aids Guo Ming, Cheng Wei, Lu Qiaoyun, Li Qingying, Lu Wanyi, and numerous civilians, but he does not mistake kindness for unconditional trust. 46 60 98 487 673

His compassion has firm limits. Chu Danqing shows little patience for exploiters, kidnappers, corrupt officials, or enemies who repeatedly harm civilians. Once he concludes that someone is malicious and beyond reason, he is willing to eliminate them decisively. 172 247 675 694

He does not seek political power for its own sake, but is willing to use status, wealth, intimidation, and alliances when they allow him to protect his people or complete a mission more efficiently. 155 163 529

Trivia

  • Chu Danqing’s name is often overshadowed by Da Bao; multiple characters identify him primarily through his conspicuous companion rather than by recognizing Chu Danqing himself. 175 391 736
  • He stores modern items such as a small washing machine, generator, food, and clean water in his Storage Space. 32
  • His naming convention for summons commonly uses the prefix “Da,” leading Wan Cheng Guo to complain that the alias “Da Wang” sounds like a dog’s name. 663
