Heavenly Lord of Original Beginning is a Saint of the Three Pure Ones and the master of the Sect of Enlightenment. As Sect Master Tongtian's brother, he is Qin Hong's second uncle, though their familial tie becomes increasingly hostile during the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. He is present at Zixiao Palace when Qin Hong first meets the Saints 2.

From his early appearances, he disparages the Sect of Interception's disciples over their origins, indirectly calling them beasts with “fur and horns.” Qin Hong publicly counters this insult, beginning their recurring confrontations 4. Investiture of the Gods Schemes

Yuanshi seeks to ensure the Sect of Enlightenment benefits from the Calamity. He allies with the Western Sect, tries to claim Underworld authority, and engineers conflicts involving Yang Jian, Eastern Yi, Huang Feihu, and Great Shang 57 91 155 157.

His reliance on Shen Gongbao becomes a major weakness. Shen outwardly obeys Yuanshi but secretly sends his instructions to Qin Hong, allowing the Sect of Interception to undermine the Sect of Enlightenment's plans 157 271.

Conflict with Qin Hong

Yuanshi directly confronts Qin Hong after Sect of Enlightenment disciples clash with the Sect of Interception. He attacks Qin Hong with the Pangu Banner, later attempts to seize the God-Slaying Spear, Chaos Bell, Twelve-grade Black Lotus of Destruction, and Five Innate Banners 220 221 224.

Although Qin Hong is only a Quasi-Saint at the time, his physical body, treasures, and combat skill allow him to fight Yuanshi to a standstill. Yuanshi is left unable to quickly defeat his nephew and suffers a wound to the waist in a later clash 222 279.

Myriad Immortals Formation

Yuanshi leads attacks against the Sect of Interception and attempts to prevent the Myriad Immortals Formation from being completed. Once inside the formation, however, the Sect of Enlightenment suffers heavy losses, including the death of True Lord Jade Cauldron 316 350 352.

Way of World Creation and the Final War

After cultivating the Way of World Creation, Yuanshi joins Laozi, Zhunti, Jieyin, and other forces in the attack on Golden Ao Island. His confidence is shattered when Tongtian's Immortal Slaying Sword Formation breaks his world-creation strike 431 441 442.

During the final conflict, Tongtian severely injures Yuanshi with a single punch. Old Ancestor Yin Yang heals him, but Yuanshi is later overwhelmed when Tongtian increases his power and destroys both his body and Dao 516 517.
