Background
The Three Pure Ones are Taiqing, Yuanshi, and Tongtian—three beings born from Pangu's Primordial Spirit. Their origin granted them extraordinary talent, immense Destiny, and a lasting karmic connection to both Pangu and the Heavenly Dao. They regarded themselves as Pangu's legitimate descendants and considered the Ancestor Witches, who originated from Pangu's essence blood, beneath them. 117 288
Before becoming Saints, they established a grand formation on Kunlun Mountain to test prospective listeners. Those who passed could enter Jade Void Palace and hear their exposition of the Great Dao; Cihang was among those who succeeded, later becoming Yuanshi's disciple. 1
Personality
Though bound by common origin and brotherhood, the Three Pure Ones embody fundamentally incompatible Great Daos:
- Taiqing follows a detached, non-interfering Dao resembling the Heavenly Dao's indifference.
- Yuanshi follows a Dao of heavenly order, regulation, and authority that compels submission.
- Tongtian follows a sharp, defiant Dao that seeks vitality and opportunity for all beings. 158
Taiqing repeatedly attempted to mediate the conflict between Yuanshi and Tongtian, partly to preserve the Three Pure Ones' collective authority. Yuanshi remained resolute in pursuing order and protecting the Heavenly Origin Sect's interests, while Tongtian placed greater value on his disciples, his open-door teaching, and eventually personal freedom from the Heavenly Dao. 158 485 493
Abilities & Skills
Saintly Cultivation and Pangu Legacy
As descendants of Pangu's Primordial Spirit, the Three Pure Ones possess Saint-level cultivation, exceptional innate talent, and access to Pangu-related Destiny and inheritances. 117 288
- Their common origin allowed them to merge their essences and summon Pangu's Primordial Spirit when Luohu attempted to use their blood as a sacrifice. 498
- Pangu's forced manifestation severely depleted them, demonstrating that their combined Origin was still only a minute fraction of Pangu's peak power. 500
- Their Pangu-derived Destiny later became an obstacle to transcending the Great Desolation; Cihang identified Pangu's resurrection as their sole path forward. 581
Taiqing's Dao
Taiqing's Dao is detached and non-interfering, yet his cultivation and comprehension are regarded as the highest among the Three Pure Ones. 150 158
- Established the Human Teachings through the Human Race's Destiny and Merit. 157
- Re-established Daoism after losing control of the Human Teachings, retaining a transcendent position that continued to draw Destiny. 412
- Uses the Taiji Diagram to manifest and suppress Yin-Yang Origin. 155 492
Yuanshi's Dao
Yuanshi's Dao emphasizes the regulation of heaven and earth, making the Heavenly Origin Sect closely aligned with the Heavenly Court's principles of order and authority. 158 412
- Established the Heavenly Origin Sect to enlighten beings and regulate the order of heaven and earth. 158
- Sought to suppress Haotian and reduce him to a puppet Heavenly Emperor through the influence of his sect. 412
- Wields the Pangu Banner, whose heaven-opening power can dissolve all things. 158 359
Tongtian's Dao and Formations
Tongtian's Intercepting Sect follows a path open to all beings, intercepting the vitality of all things. He is the Three Pure Ones' foremost master of formations. 107 412
- Established the Intercepting Sect on Golden Ao Island, drawing the Destiny of the Immortal Path through his sermons. 203
- Deployed the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation during the Investiture of the Gods tribulation, trapping four Saints and filling the Great Desolation with calamity qi. 487
- Used the Four Swords of Execution to strike the Heavenly Dao's Origin space and reclaim his True Spirit. 492 493
- Severed his Saint Position to pursue the less-restricted Primordial Chaos Path. 493 504

Story Role / Major Arcs
Kunlun and the Founding of the Three Teachings
The Three Pure Ones preached at Jade Void Palace on Kunlun Mountain and tested cultivators through a grand formation. After Taiqing's enlightenment through the Human Teachings, Yuanshi and Tongtian followed by establishing the Heavenly Origin Sect and Intercepting Sect. 1 157 158
Their enlightenment exposed the irreconcilable nature of their respective Great Daos. Taiqing attempted to balance Yuanshi and Tongtian's conflicting auras, but their Dao conflict could not be fully resolved. 158
Separation of Their Dojos
As their combined Destiny outgrew Kunlun's capacity, the Three Pure Ones established separate foundations: Taiqing at Shouyang Mountain, Yuanshi with the Heavenly Origin Sect, and Tongtian at Golden Ao Island. 203
Although they remained brothers, competition between their sects steadily eroded their unity. Yuanshi and Taiqing became increasingly concerned that Tongtian and the Intercepting Sect would surpass them. 447 451
Conflict with Houtu and Cihang
When Houtu gained Pangu Hall's recognition, the Three Pure Ones viewed her as a threat to their status as Pangu's rightful successors and attacked her together. Houtu's command of Reincarnation, Pangu Hall, and Buzhou Mountain allowed her to withstand them. 286 288 291
They later attempted to suppress Cihang, pursuing him after he broke their seal with the Chaos Bell and Primordial Heaven Measuring Ruler. Houtu intervened and enabled his escape. 362 363
The Investiture of the Gods Schism
Taiqing and Yuanshi's cooperation with the West against the Intercepting Sect convinced Tongtian that their brotherhood had become empty formality. Tongtian formally severed the Three Pure Ones' brotherhood, causing their shared Destiny and their sects' fortunes to fluctuate. 485
Tongtian then deployed the Immortal Slaying Sword Formation against Taiqing, Yuanshi, Jieyin, and Zhunti. His decision to shatter his Primordial Violet Qi freed his True Spirit and ended his status as a Heavenly Dao Saint. 487 492 493
Reconciliation and Withdrawal
After the Heavenly Dao's consciousness was suppressed, Taiqing and Yuanshi sincerely apologized to Tongtian. The three restored their familial bond, returned to Kunlun, and resumed verifying their Daos together, though their conflicting Great Daos still made coexistence difficult. 545 559
They ultimately relinquished their remaining Saint Positions, passed on their sects, and withdrew into the outer Chaos to seek a new Dao beyond the Great Desolation. 560
Pangu's Resurrection
Unable to break through despite their cultivation, the Sanqing accepted Cihang's explanation that their Pangu-derived Karma prevented transcendence. They agreed to assist in awakening Pangu after Cihang assured them that his Creation Green Lotus could prevent Pangu's resurrection from sacrificing all beings. 581 582
