Background / History

Spirit City upbringing

Changkong grew up in Spirit City as Thousand Jun Douluo’s biological grandson. He also regarded Subduing Demon Douluo as his grandfather and learned from both elders. Their example strongly influenced his staff techniques and his tendency to imitate the fighting habits of established Titled Douluos 97 250 255.

His first confrontation with Wu Qi began over his bullying of classmates. Wu Qi defeated him by carrying him into the air, where the ground-bound Level 12 Changkong panicked. The fight eventually became the starting point of their friendship 7 255.

At Spirit Hall Academy, Changkong readily made friends, aided by his grandfather’s connections. At home, however, Thousand Jun Douluo subjected him to harsh training because he continued to trail behind Wu Qi. Changkong consequently welcomed the opportunity to leave Spirit City and travel 8 20.

Death Grand Canyon and continental travel

Changkong entered Death Grand Canyon alongside Wu Qi, disguising himself as an exile to conceal his Trialist identity. His assignment required either ten Yellow Badges or one Purple Badge. As the deadline approached, he grew impatient enough to suggest assassinating Wang Tong, a Level 41 Soul Ancestor 12 16 17.

The pair developed a recurring combat arrangement: Changkong initiated attacks and tested the enemy, while Wu Qi delivered the decisive blow. Their practiced coordination also allowed Wu Qi’s winds to amplify the flames of the Coiling Dragon Staff into a fire tornado 17 18.

Travel outside Spirit City exposed Changkong’s inexperience. He believed a fraudulent beggar mother, nearly ate poisoned food at an inn, and wanted to help escort guards in a battle far beyond his cultivation. Wu Qi repeatedly restrained his impulsiveness 15 21 22.

Academy teams and the Spirit Master Competition

After reaching Level 30, Changkong traveled toward the Star Dou Great Forest with Wu Qi and Ning Rongrong to obtain a Soul Ring. He later joined Royal Fight Team Two, where Wu Qi paired him with Huo Wushuang on the front line 39 40 97.

His development was not limited to cultivation. Sun Buyu and Wu Qi criticized his attempts to control entire battles without recognizing his own openings. Huo Wushuang warned that such habits could prove fatal 96 97.

Changkong subsequently withdrew from Heaven Dou Royal Academy with Wu Qi’s group and enrolled at Seven Treasures Academy. During tournament preparations, he became an alternative tactical focal point, although Wu Qi retained command 119 159.

His notable tournament performances included breaking into the Elephant Armor Team’s defensive wall, grounding three flying Tianming Team members, and defeating the higher-ranked Sun Chuantao. Against Xie Yue, he conceded rather than continue the arena sequence 179 180 246 266.

Independent missions and divine trials

His first training mission without Wu Qi targeted Gong Li Hai of Clear Breeze Stronghold. Changkong and Chen Ping investigated beforehand, tested the stronghold’s defenses in a night raid, and withdrew using a smoke bomb rather than fight to the death. They later harassed the bandits and enlisted Wangbei City’s Spirit Hall branch for the final suppression operation 288 289 290 295 297.

At Wangbei City, Changkong also confronted the branch’s negligent officials using his Papal Order. Their work discipline remained visibly improved when Wu Qi later visited 295 312.

During the New Mountain Sect operation, he infiltrated a mine disguised as a worker, marked hidden sentries with darklight powder, and recruited Zhu Wusi to organize an evacuation. He then killed the overseers in a surprise attack as the rescue operation began 359 361 362.

Divine Trials accelerated his growth and raised his Soul Ring ages. He initially considered seeking the Sea God’s inheritance, but abandoned the idea after Wu Qi explained the conflict it could create with Spirit Hall’s faith and followers. Wu Qi later secured him the God of Destruction’s trials 373 413 443.

Dragon Emperor Douluo and Spirit Hall leadership

After advancing to Soul Douluo, Changkong accompanied Wu Qi to sea under the requirements of his sixth divine trial. In Vast Sea City, he won a Soul Tool Speedboat through public Soul Fighting without revealing his name. He later set out to retrieve the God of Destruction’s Divine Artifact 472 474 475 476 483.

In the Far North, he tested himself against the Titan Snow Demon King and earned the Ice Empress’s recognition. Her sacrifice raised him to Level 95. Thousand Jun Douluo and Subduing Demon Douluo celebrated his return as the Qian Gu Family’s third Titled Douluo 495 497 545.

Changkong helped handle Spirit Hall’s accumulated official business and received the position of Hall Guardian Douluo. Qian Daoliu later presided over his formal promotion ceremony, where he announced his title and recorded his name in Douluo Hall 548 556.

During the campaign against Sea God Island, he worked with Feng Xiaotian to eliminate the Qi Family’s covert network. On the island itself, he led the charge with his Ninth Soul Skill and helped prevent enemy combatants from reaching Ning Rongrong 597 600.

Appearance

  • Family resemblance: His resemblance to Thousand Jun Douluo, together with his Coiling Dragon Staff, prompts Spirit Hall personnel to speculate about his background 246.
  • Hair: Normally has glossy black hair. An Icefire Yin Yang Well trial leaves him temporarily bald after he descends farther than required 442.
  • Roguish bearing: His street-thug-like appearance makes him a convincing candidate to infiltrate the New Mountain Sect’s mine 358.
  • Complexion: His skin is noticeably better cared for than that of Vast Sea City’s weather-beaten fishermen 474.
  • Mannerisms: Frequently rests his staff on his shoulder and adopts deliberately impressive poses 246 290 475.

Personality

Changkong is outgoing, proud, and eager to display his strength. He openly envies Wu Qi’s female admirers, checks his hair before intervening in Ning Rongrong’s runaway-horse incident, and asks whether his tournament poses look impressive. His desire to show off also motivates sustained training: he spends five years preparing for a triumphant reunion with his former teammates 24 35 246 397.

His pride is closely tied to his family. He resents being accused of theft because it would disgrace his lineage, and he refuses to shrink before stronger opponents when the Coiling Dragon Staff’s reputation is at stake. That same confidence repeatedly becomes arrogance, leading him to underestimate enemies or imitate his grandfathers’ battle control before he has the ability to support it 17 30 97 145 265.

Beneath his bravado, he can be sympathetic and hot-blooded. He offers more food to the fraudulent beggar mother and urges Wu Qi to help endangered escort guards. Experience gradually makes him more cautious: during his independent mission, he scouts escape routes, accepts Chen Ping’s hidden protection, and retreats after assessing his target 15 22 288 289 290.

He regards Spirit Hall as his home and fears that Bibi Dong’s ambitions could destroy it. Although capable of small-scale schemes, he remains inexperienced in high-level politics and relies on Wu Qi to explain broader compromises and collective interests 382 555.

Abilities & Skills

Coiling Dragon Staff

A hereditary Qian Gu Family Martial Soul combining great weight, destructive force, and flame abilities. A Heavenly Awakening Sacred Golden Dragon is sealed within it 18 43 460 495.

  • Its attack rhythm can trap opponents in sustained pressure, though Wu Qi demonstrates how to interrupt that rhythm 30.
  • Multiple flame rings grant Changkong a degree of fire immunity 343.
  • By the Soul Emperor stage, its might has surpassed the staffs of Thousand Jun and Subduing Demon Douluos 424.

Blazing Dragon Coils

  • Initially reproduces the original technique’s control methods but lacks substantial offensive power 58.
  • Later develops from a move requiring full concentration into a technique he can release from both ends of his staff 343.

  • Applies Spiritual Suppression, slowing the Titan Snow Demon King’s reactions 495.
  • Helps compensate when Changkong is slightly inferior in a direct strength contest 495.
  • Takes physical form during the assault on Sea God Island 600.

  • Uses a physical staff to expel water from an arena, removing a Sea Spirit Master’s environmental advantage 474.

  • Is effective as a team’s offensive focal point, but Wu Qi remains responsible for tactical command 159.
