How Dare You Use My Own Magic Against Me, Potter?
James immediately sat up; as a child of that age, he was most interested in these little secrets.
"Tell me quickly," he asked eagerly.
"What should I say?" Sirius deliberately piqued James's curiosity. "What do you want me to say?"
"Hey, Sirius!"
James was annoyed. He turned over, pinned Sirius to the edge of the bed, grabbed his collar, and shook his head repeatedly.
Sirius, after being jolted by James, deliberately stuck out his tongue and pretended to be dizzy from the shaking.
"Alright, alright, bro." After joking around for a while, Sirius laughed and said, "It's really nothing serious, it's just—have you noticed that Remus disappears for a period of time every month?"
James thought for a moment, then nodded and said, "It seems so..."
"Yes, have you ever thought about why that is?" Sirius asked with a smile.
James racked his brains for a long time, and suddenly a look of realization dawned on him.
He clenched his right fist and slammed it onto his left palm, saying with great shrewdness, "I know! Actually, Remus is a girl—aha! I was wondering why she leaves us for a period of time every month; it's because she's afraid we'll find out she's—no, I mean, she's on her period!"
Sirius was stunned.
He never expected that his good friend James would be so... smart.
"What should I say, James?" Sirius sighed helplessly. "Should I say you're clever, or..."
"You can assume I'm clever!" James said proudly, raising his head. "See? I think my guess was right. Remus is actually a girl disguised as a boy..."
"Come on," Sirius sighed, then said to James, "You know what? Just the other day, I followed Remus around to see what he was up to—and guess what I found?"
"What did you find?" James asked, following up on his question.
"I followed him and Dumbledore all the way to Hogsmeade village —you know, the Shrieking Shack that's recently become famous," Sirius asked with a smile.
James tried hard to recall what Sirius had said.
He had recently heard of the legends of Hogsmeade —after all, it had even been featured in the Daily Prophet. The newspaper had once sent people to investigate, but they were so frightened by the "things" in the Shrieking Shack that they started talking nonsense.
He had originally intended to call his friends to investigate, but after hearing about the horrific state of those people, he abandoned the idea.
He does enjoy adventure, but he's not arrogant enough to be that conceited.
"Oh, I know that," James replied. "It seems that since last year, a legend has been circulating in Hogsmeade that the little house is haunted, with a very ferocious ghost hiding inside, which is why it keeps screaming... Don't tell me this is actually related to Remus?"
Sirius slapped James and said, "Guess what? Dude? It really was Remus's voice—I saw it with my own eyes... Guess what I saw?"
James, whose interest had been piqued, even held his breath.
Could it be...
But after a long while, Sirius still hadn't spoken. James, his curiosity piqued, quickly shook Sirius and asked impatiently, "What? Tell me already!"
"Actually—" Sirius said mysteriously next to James, "Remus is Werewolf! I saw him howl in the Shrieking Shack, just like the legendary howl. I bet the villagers mistook his howl for a ghost..."
Upon hearing Sirius's words, James's eyes widened.
He stood there, seemingly processing what Sirius had just said.
"What's wrong, buddy?" Sirius nudged James with his elbow.
James wiped his face, still unable to believe it. "You mean, Remus, who's actually been living with us all this time, is actually— Werewolf?"
"Otherwise what?" Sirius asked with a chuckle. "What do you think he is? Some big dog?"
"Merlin..." James still couldn't believe it. He muttered Merlin's name, still processing the fact that his roommate was a Werewolf.
Seeing James like this, Sirius asked with concern, "What's wrong, James? Are you feeling unwell?"
"Feeling unwell?" James frowned at Sirius. "Why do you feel unwell?"
"You know, it's... Werewolf and stuff like that." Sirius put two fingers in quotation marks.
Unexpectedly, James did not react with disgust like a normal child upon hearing that his roommate was Werewolf; instead, he slammed his fist on the bed.
"Who says it's uncomfortable to think Remus is Werewolf?" James was thrilled. "This news is absolutely fantastic—don't you think it's cool? Sirius? Just imagine, besides the Animagus, Lupin turning into a werewolf, that's just so cool..."
"If Remus knew you thought that, he'd be so happy." Sirius laughed, patted James on the shoulder, and called back, "Remus —come on in!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Harry and James turned to look at the doorway.
In Harry's eyes, he saw Lupin, a timid boy, push open the door, his face a mixture of fear and emotion.
From the very beginning, Lupin was prepared to be reported and complained about by his roommates at any time and leave Hogwarts.
But to his surprise, neither Sirius nor James thought that him being a Werewolf was a big deal.
It was as if he wasn't Werewolf, but an Animagus who could transform into a wolf—or rather, as if he were a harmless plush toy.
"James..." Lupin took small, quick steps and walked up to James with his head down.
He was a little afraid to look up at James, fearing that it was all just a dream.
Who would accept a Werewolf as a friend? Especially a roommate...?
"Hey buddy," James chuckled. "If Sirius hadn't told me this, seeing how shy you are now, I would definitely think you're a little girl—God, if you were a girl, I could legitimately sneak into the Girls' Dormitory and help me woo Evans."
Harry didn't know whether he should be touched by his father's words or not; he just felt that his dad was sometimes... rather stubborn.
Hearing James's words, Lupin forced a smile, lowered his head, and twisted the hem of his clothes as he asked, "You... you really don't mind that I'm a Werewolf? You know, Werewolf are forced to Transfiguration during a full moon, and at that time they become indiscriminate, attacking every human they see in a frenzy..."
"Oh, that sounds a bit scary, you almost made me cry."
James said emotionlessly, reaching out to pinch Lupin's face and pulling up a reluctant smile.
"Listen, Remus," James said again, very seriously. "I don't care if you're Werewolf or whatever. The most important thing is that you're my friend. What you're worried about is just a trivial matter. We're not going to stop recognizing you because of that."
After saying that, James turned back to Sirius and kicked him.
"Hey, Sirius," he said, "Is this the big problem you were talking about?"
"I think it's really cool, bro," Sirius replied, striking a cool pose.
James was clearly disgusted by Sirius's pose. He S.P.E.W. and complained, "God, we're in the dorm! Don't do things like that—do you think we're some shallow girls attracted to your handsome face?"
"Haha—" Sirius replied with a loud laugh.
"However, what you said is indeed a problem, Remus." James rested his chin on his hand, seemingly deep in thought.
Lupin's heart, which had been at ease, was now filled with anxiety again.
"Actually, I, that..."
Before he could finish speaking, James said to Sirius, "Think about it, Sirius, Remus is always all alone in the Shrieking Shack when he transforms. He's so lonely—maybe we can practice Animagus together. I've heard that Werewolf don't go berserk and attack animals. Maybe we can—keep Remus in the Shrieking Shack. What do you say?"
"That's so cool!" Sirius's eyes lit up. "Animagus! That's a great idea..."
"Yes," James looked around again, "Where's Peter? Where did Peter go?"
"I've always been here..."
A timid voice rang out, and Harry looked in the direction of the voice and saw a very short boy.
"Oh, Peter," Sirius pinched his bangs and asked, "What about Peter? He's so stupid, can he even learn Animagus?"
"Don't worry, we're still here, aren't we?" James sighed, glancing at Peter. "He needs to learn something. He's so timid and stupid. What will he do if he encounters Dark Wizard? Maybe we can turn him into a smaller animal so that the Dark Wizard won't find him and he won't lose his life for nothing."
Peter heard James's words, looked up, and smiled shyly at them.
"Yes, that's the use of friends." James patted Sirius again and said with a smile, "We'll take care of fighting the Dark Lord and his brainless followers, while Peter... Peter should stay in the rear, maybe he can pass on messages, that's all."
"I'll listen to James," Peter said obediently.
"Hey buddy," James kicked Peter's bed, "Can you stop acting like this all the time? God, we're best friends. You don't have to be so cautious. If you run into those old Snivellus by yourself, they're going to bully you."
Sirius's face darkened at the mention of Snivellus.
"That Snivellus bastard..."
Before he could finish speaking, James interrupted him.
"You're wrong, Sirius," James said seriously. "Snivellus is a jerk, that's true, but he's a piece of trash—look at him, bullying everyone with his Death Eater, showing no respect for Gryffindor. We need to find a way to teach him a lesson!"
The scene abruptly ended there, and Harry felt that dizzying sensation again as his feet touched solid ground once more.
"This is James," Lupin smiled at Harry. "He may not be perfect, but he's definitely my best friend."
Harry nodded, agreeing with what Lupin had said.
He is no longer a child. The world is not black and white, at least not like a magnet with only positive and negative poles.
As Professor Lupin said, at least the father corrected his shortcomings.
"But I must add something, Harry," Lupin continued, "Like the incident at the Black Lake that you remember, the Charms your father used to hang Severus was invented by Severus himself."
"It should be said that he was not an innocent person—there was a group of students in Slytherin who admired the Dark Lord, and Severus was also a loyal follower of his— Lily's break with Snape was not just because of the word ' Mudblood.' He probably didn't tell you that Lily repeatedly advised him not to go astray, but he was still single-mindedly trying to cut his head to get into the Dark Lord's arms."
"Furthermore, while Snape did rarely attack others, the Charms he invented were all learned by those aspiring Death Eater and used on innocent Gryffindor students," Professor Lupin added.
Harry remembered the curse that the two Slytherin classmates had used on Marlene McKinnon, which he had seen in his mother's memory.
"If that's the case, then it makes sense." Harry smiled at Snape —saying that made him feel less sympathy for Snape.
Nobody is an innocent little flower. Sometimes it's okay to fool yourself, but don't fool others too.
"Of course, I don't deny that Severus is a genius." Lupin smiled at Harry and said, "I have a copy of some of the Charms he invented here. Perhaps you can take a look—I don't recommend that you follow James's example and use those Charms on Severus."
"Why?" Harry asked curiously.
"He will be furious," Lupin said succinctly.
Harry quickly imagined how furious Snape must have been.
"You dare use my magic against me, Potter?"
Thinking this, Harry couldn't help but chuckle.
"You can imagine what it would look like, right?" Lupin said with a chuckle. "That's why I don't recommend you do it."
After chatting with Lupin for a while, Harry said goodbye and planned to go see Mr. LeMay.
Tonight is the night to summon god of death; I hope everything goes well, he thought to himself.
(I'm not satisfied with the several revisions of god of death, so I'll start with 4000 for today)
