Background

Itachi is the eldest son of Fugaku and Mikoto Uchiha and Sasuke's older brother. As a child, he is polite, earnest, and devoted to Konoha's ideal of unity; he initially considers Aozora's hostility toward the village incompatible with his own beliefs. He nevertheless seeks Aozora out to understand the Will of Fire rather than avoiding their disagreement. 28 78

Aozora challenges Itachi's faith in Konoha's leadership through questions about the Uchiha's treatment, the meaning of voluntary sacrifice, and the relationship between clan, village, and individual. These discussions make Itachi recognize his own arrogance and begin considering the clan's suffering independently. 79 96 102

After learning Aozora's explanation of the conflict between the Uchiha and Konoha High Command, Itachi becomes Aozora's formal disciple. Aozora teaches him a Secret Technique to improve his physical aptitude and urges him to grow before attempting to shoulder the clan's burdens alone. 103
