Origins and early nature

The Witch Clan originated from Pangu's Essence Blood and regarded itself as the rightful master of the Primordial land. Its core consisted of the Twelve Ancestral Witches, who wielded fundamental laws through overwhelmingly powerful physical bodies rather than Primordial Spirits. Their warriors inherited diluted ancestral bloodlines, tempered their bodies, and fought with direct martial force. 142 162 205

Their lack of Primordial Spirits was an innate flaw: Pangu's Turbid Qi had polluted the Ancestral Witches' True Spirit origins. This limitation originally prevented them from properly activating Innate Spiritual Treasures, despite the clan possessing a large treasury of treasures and Spiritual Roots. 8 18 159

The clan's early dealings with Qing Huan exposed conflicting tendencies among its leaders. Houtu sought an honest exchange for Central Wutu Soil, while Di Jiang attempted to seize it by force; after Qing Huan defeated Di Jiang, Houtu honored the agreement by opening the clan treasury. 8 9 11

Search for a Primordial Spirit

Fearing extinction, Di Jiang and Zhu Jiuyin sought Spiritual Roots and Earth-attribute treasures capable of helping Houtu and Gou Mang overcome the clan's Primordial Spirit defect. The clan raided East Prince's Daoist Abode, obtaining a suitable Spiritual Root for Gou Mang, while Houtu acquired the Wutu Apricot Yellow Banner. 71 82

The Ancestral Witches then poured their Heaven-Splitting Merit into Houtu and Gou Mang. The process washed away much of their Killing Intent and allowed both to condense Primordial Spirits, but intensified the Killing Intent backlash suffered by the merit donors, particularly Di Jiang and Zhu Jiuyin. 82

With Houtu and Gou Mang able to comprehend Pangu Temple's inherited formation, the clan developed the Twelve Divine Fiend Array. Because the formation relied on Killing Intent, Di Jiang arranged for Jiu Feng—cultivated from the Twelve Ancestral Witches' combined Essence Blood—to become a hidden thirteenth Ancestral Witch and preserve Houtu from its worst effects. 97 110

Establishment of the Witch Clan

In response to the Demon Race's establishment and growing Heavenly Dao Destiny, Gou Mang proposed that the Ancestral Witches formally establish the Witch Clan. Di Jiang led the declaration before Pangu's will, claiming responsibility for the Primordial land, Earth Veins, Yin and Yang, and mountains and rivers. The declaration drew Xuanhuang Destiny from the land. 142

The establishment sharpened the clan's rivalry with the Demon Race. The Witches depended on the myriad living beings of the land for sustenance, including demons, while the Demon Race's unification made such hunting an open racial conflict. 142 144

Witch-Demon conflict

As the Great Formation of the Stars increased the Primordial Era's spiritual energy and reduced ambient Killing Intent, the Witch Clan faced a food crisis. Houtu sought Qing Huan's advice, but relocation to the Underworld or hunting Chaos beasts was initially impractical because most Witches lacked Primordial Spirits and Innate Spiritual Treasures. 158 159

Qing Huan secured a Ten Aeons' Pact to delay war while seeking another source of food. Houtu accepted Demon Race criminals as temporary sustenance, but many Ancestral Witches viewed the compromise and delay as humiliating. 159 160 168

When the pact expired, the Witch Clan defended Buzhou Mountain against the Demon Race with the Twelve Divine Fiend Array. The formation could condense a Pangu phantom and an axe shadow approaching Pangu's might, but its clash with the Chaos Four Symbols Universe Great Formation devastated both armies, shattered the formations, and destroyed numerous Witch Gods and Great Witches. 205 207 208

Hongjun ultimately halted the conflict and imposed a ten-thousand-aeon truce: Demons would govern Heaven, while the Ancestral Witches would protect the Primordial land, regulate Earth Veins and dragon qi, harmonize the Five Elements, and sustain life cycles. 220

Decline and surviving legacy

Houtu later transformed herself into Reincarnation, becoming Empress Pingxin and completing the Netherworld. Her departure deprived the Witch Clan of its Earth Ancestral Witch and weakened its ability to manifest a complete Pangu True Body Phantom through the formation. 262 286

The final Witch-Demon battle beneath Buzhou Mountain ended in mutual destruction. Hou Yi spent his remaining life force to severely injure Taiyi; Di Jiang and other Ancestral Witches chose self-destruction as their forces collapsed, threatening Buzhou Mountain itself. 295 296
