Background

Qing Mu was born with only level-five innate Soul Power, but his growth rate quickly exceeded normal expectations. After he and Bulbasaur killed a hundred-year Shadow Leopard, he reached level 10 before obtaining his first Soul Ring. Fearing that their son would attract dangerous attention, Qing Tianfeng and Xu Yao kept the incident secret and chose not to register him with Martial Soul Hall. Qing Mu also concealed Bulbasaur's ability to gain experience from defeating Soul Beasts, even from his parents. 8

During a family expedition, Bulbasaur absorbed a Wood Spirit Seed. A second green seed subsequently formed within Qing Mu's body, continuously strengthening him and altering his appearance and aura. 15 16 After obtaining his first Soul Ring, he could sustain Bulbasaur's manifestation for long periods, allowing the pair to train and travel together. 16

Qing Mu eventually left home to gain combat experience in Soul Beast forests. His extensive battles gave him far more practical experience than ordinary Soul Masters, while Bulbasaur's hidden experience gain accelerated their growth. 21 41 His journey brought him into contact with the Suotuo Great Spirit Arena, Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Dugu Bo's circle, the Great North Land's ferocious beasts, and eventually the continent's major powers.

Appearance

The Wood Spirit Seed transformed Qing Mu's body, leaving him with light-green pupils, a faint verdant glow, and a strong life aura. 16 By the time Ning Fengzhi disclosed his age, Qing Mu was fourteen despite possessing strength that alarmed veteran Titled Douluo. 202

  • Often concealed his identity at the Suotuo Great Spirit Arena beneath a black robe and mask. 36
  • Used a deliberately mature voice and the codename Garlic Turtle while competing anonymously. 36 37
  • His wood-attribute aura attracts wood-aligned Martial Souls while also provoking instinctive wariness from Tang San's Blue Silver Grass. 37

Personality

Qing Mu is guarded, pragmatic, and highly conscious of the danger posed by his unusual abilities. He hid Bulbasaur's experience gain from his parents, abandoned Martial Soul Hall registration to avoid scrutiny, and left Meng Yiran's group rather than risk exposing his secrets. 8 34

In battle, he is calm and analytical. He studies opponents' techniques, adapts his tactics, and is willing to deliberately lose when continued victories would draw excessive attention. 40 41 He values training through genuine danger and repeatedly chooses life-and-death combat to improve. 80

He can also be compassionate: he spared the Gale Eagle after defeating it and aided Dugu Bo's treatment. 70 76 However, threats to his family and allies bring out a ruthless side; after the attack on the Ye Family, he destroyed the Elephant Armored Sect and retaliated against the factions involved. 203

Abilities & Skills

Bulbasaur Martial Soul

Qing Mu possesses Bulbasaur, a sentient Detached Beast Martial Soul that can act independently, communicate through behavior, eat ordinary food, and remain manifested for extended periods after Qing Mu gained his first Soul Ring. 3 16

  • Progressed from Bulbasaur to Ivysaur, then to Venusaur. 19 125
  • Gains experience from defeating Soul Beasts, rapidly increasing both Bulbasaur's and Qing Mu's strength; Qing Mu keeps this ability secret. 8 21
  • Can use Vine Whip without Qing Mu lighting a Soul Ring, causing observers to mistake the ability for an innate trait or self-created Soul Skill. 51
  • Initially carried major fire and ice weaknesses, later mitigated by the Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot. 40 82
  • Generally serves as Qing Mu's primary combat body while Qing Mu directs the battle. 51 125

Grassy Terrain

Qing Mu's first Soul Skill spreads a life-filled grassy field that enhances plant growth and sustains him in battle. 12 23

  • Creates grass across the battlefield and produces green motes that restore Qing Mu's injuries. 37 42
  • Supports Bulbasaur's plant control and forms part of Qing Mu's battlefield setup. 37
  • Can turn barren ground into usable plant terrain. 94

Giga Drain

His second Soul Skill was obtained from a seven-hundred-year Vampire Vine. 21

  • Fires blue-green energy vines that drain an opponent's energy. 42
  • Transfers stolen energy to Qing Mu, healing him alongside Grassy Terrain. 42 43
  • Can break through defenses such as Dai Mubai's White Tiger Body Protection Barrier. 43
  • Has a comparatively shorter base range, though Qing Mu can extend it by combining it with vine techniques. 126

Plant Control and Status Techniques

Qing Mu and Bulbasaur employ a broad set of plant-based attacks and control moves.

  • Vine Whip — binding, striking, movement, and wide-area cutting attacks. 19 51 94
  • Leaf Blade and Seed Bomb — direct ranged offense. 19 25
  • Sleep Powder, Paralysis Powder, and Poison Powder — status effects that hinder or incapacitate enemies. 19 206
  • Leech Seed — a highly regarded self-created Soul Skill used to create barriers, restrain targets, and pressure opponents who enter its range. 42 43
  • Power Whip — one of Qing Mu's strongest individual vine attacks, though costly to use. 150

Sunny Day, Chlorophyll, and Solar Beam

Qing Mu's third Soul Skill, Sunny Day, clears the sky and provides the sunlight necessary for Bulbasaur's Chlorophyll-based combat system. 25 27

  • Activates Chlorophyll, improving mobility and allowing Qing Mu to face ordinary Thousand-Year Soul Beasts with greater confidence. 27
  • Supports Solar Beam and Bulbasaur's recovery; under Sunny Day, Solar Beam can restore more than half of Ivysaur's health. 67
  • Solar Beam became Qing Mu's defining long-range attack, eventually reaching a range of roughly one thousand meters. 126
  • After gaining the Tenacity trait, Solar Beam reached Titled Douluo-level power. 151

Protect and Mobility

Qing Mu possesses several defensive and evasive options that complement his control-oriented fighting style.

  • Protect — his fourth Soul Skill, a defensive barrier without the limited daily uses associated with Invincible Golden Body. 100
  • At level 98, Protect could not be shaken by attacks below god level. 267
  • Grass Slide — a rapid movement technique used for travel and evasive combat. 165 183
  • Teleportation — used to escape Scarlet King and evade lethal attacks. 171 267
  • Qing Mu acknowledges that extreme-speed Agility Attack System opponents remain difficult to restrain if they choose to flee. 206

Combination Skills

Wood World Descends

Qing Mu's premier wide-area combination skill merges Venusaur's strongest techniques with the Black Jade Divine Bamboo's trait. 170

  • Summons countless dark-green, tree-like vines over a radius of several hundred meters. 186
  • The vines regenerate continuously and can overwhelm multiple high-level opponents across a vast battlefield. 214 216
  • Incorporates options such as Giga Drain and Deadly Poison as Qing Mu continues refining it. 246
  • Its energy-draining effect is ineffective against Ice Empress's Ultimate Ice. 188

Flower of the Sun

A single-target burst technique combining Solar Beam, Petal Dance, and Leaf Storm. 246

  • Sacrifices Wood World Descends' broad coverage for greater concentrated destructive power. 246
  • Served as Qing Mu's answer to Di Tian's Black Dragon Sword. 246

Mega Evolution and Gigantamax

Qing Mu's seventh Soul Skill enables Venusaur's Mega Evolution through a Mega Stone and Key Stone created from the Ice Empress sacrifice. 192

  • Mega Venusaur increases move effects by 100% and surpasses Qing Mu's Terastallized state. 193
  • Sunny Day becomes a true domain while Mega Evolution is active, while Growth doubles Venusaur's size and aura. 193
  • Causes minor Soul Power exhaustion and dims the Key Stone after use. 193
  • His eighth Soul Skill, Super Gigantamax, can be enhanced through Mega Evolution and allows Venusaur's ordinary moves to become G-Max attacks. 233 245
  • Gigantamax Ash-Whip Annihilation is among the forms used against Bibi Dong. 267

Spiritual Power

Qing Mu's Spiritual Power was unusually strong from birth and grew further through training, Soul Rings, Soul Bones, and psychic awakening. 100 232

  • Can enter and control his Sea of Spirit, where Ice Empress resides after becoming his Soul Ring. 192 261
  • Awakened psychic abilities capable of transmitting knowledge directly to a Soul Beast and restoring its intelligence. 194
  • After absorbing the Ten Thousand Demon King's Soul Ring, he could perceive elemental clusters and their movement. 232
  • Used his Spiritual Power to force the Deep Sea Demonic Whale King into his sea of consciousness and kill it there. 261

Equipment, Soul Bones, and Treasures

  • Wood Spirit Seed — fused with Bulbasaur and Qing Mu's body; strengthened his physique, created his life aura, and enhanced his affinity for wood attributes. 15 16 37
  • Octagonal Mysterious Ice Grass and Infernal Delicate Apricot — granted resistance to ice and fire, compensating for Bulbasaur's elemental weaknesses. 82
  • Wisdom Skull of Spiritual Concentration — head Soul Bone gifted by Ye Lingling to strengthen Qing Mu's Spiritual Power and resist the Blue Silver King's lingering will. 151
  • Black Jade Divine Bamboo — strengthened Bulbasaur's vine-type moves, improved Qing Mu's body, and raised his Soul Power by two levels. 150
  • Tera Crystal Orb — restores Qing Mu's strength and was used during his escape from Scarlet King. 171
  • Mega Stone and Key Stone — manifested with his seventh Soul Skill and enable Mega Evolution while also aiding Soul Power recovery. 192
  • Ten Thousand Demon King's External Soul Bone — a crystal heart fused with Qing Mu's own heart after he absorbed the Ten Thousand Demon King's Soul Ring. 233
  • Deep Sea Demonic Whale King's Soul Bone — raised Qing Mu to level 98. 261

Heaven Dou and the Ye Family

Qing Mu's battles with Dugu Yan and interactions with Ye Lingling led to a relationship built on trust, shared secrets, and Martial Soul resonance. 51 56 57 Through Dugu Bo, he gained access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, sought Immortal Herbs, and strengthened both his cultivation and resistance to fire and ice. 76 80 82

Trivia

  • Bulbasaur shocked Qing Mu's parents by eating an apple, an action they considered impossible for a Martial Soul. 3
  • Qing Mu's first public explanation for reaching level 10 was that battle pressure caused the breakthrough; the real reason involved Bulbasaur gaining experience from Soul Beast victories. 8
  • The Great Spirit Arena could verify that “Garlic Turtle” truly possessed level-34 Soul Power, but its staff could not uncover reliable information about his identity. 41
  • Qing Mu views himself as a Trainer and specifically trains his own evasion because his body does not inherently possess a “Super Pallet Towner” physique. 79
