Background

Bulbasaur manifested during Qing Mu’s Martial Soul awakening as a blue-green, toad-like creature with a garlic-like plant bulb on its back. Qing Mu immediately recognized it as a Bulbasaur and named it accordingly. The awakening deacon classified it as an unprecedented Mutated Martial Soul because it behaved like a Beast Martial Soul while existing externally like an Artifact Martial Soul. 1

Qing Tianfeng and Xu Yao concluded that Bulbasaur likely resulted from the fusion and mutation of Qing Tianfeng’s Green Toad Martial Soul and Xu Yao’s Narcissus Flower Martial Soul. Its unusual nature became even clearer when it independently used Vine Whip, Tackle, and Ingrain without possessing any Soul Rings. 2

Unlike a conventional Martial Soul, Bulbasaur can eat ordinary food, has independent emotions and judgment, and cannot merge with Qing Mu’s body. Its continued existence is tied to Qing Mu; if Qing Mu dies, Bulbasaur will disappear as well. 3 9

After absorbing a Wood Spirit Seed, Bulbasaur’s connection with Qing Mu deepened substantially. The seed entered Qing Mu’s body through Bulbasaur, later enabling their plant-based Mind Link and contributing to Bulbasaur’s evolution into Ivysaur. 15 17

Appearance

In its base form, Bulbasaur is a small, blue-green, toad-like creature with large red eyes and a seed resembling a garlic bulb growing from its back. 1 234

• Bulbasaur form — Its preferred form, which it considers cuter and less energy-consuming than Ivysaur. 18

Personality

Bulbasaur is affectionate, emotionally expressive, and strongly attached to Qing Mu. Upon first appearing, it rubbed against Qing Mu’s leg and enjoyed being petted; it later guarded Qing Mu anxiously during his prolonged imprisonment by Ten Thousand Demon King. 1 234

It is sensitive to failure but responds strongly to Qing Mu’s praise and encouragement. After missing targets with Vine Whip, Bulbasaur became discouraged until Qing Mu reassured it, motivating it to train until it could strike a bullseye from thirty meters away. 4 5

Despite its cute appearance and occasional vanity—particularly its dislike of Ivysaur’s appearance—Bulbasaur is fiercely protective. It trains to become stronger so it can protect Qing Mu, instinctively places itself between Qing Mu and threats, and evolved into Venusaur after Qing Mu risked his life to save it. 5 6 98
