Origin and Opening

The Demon Realm was born prematurely after the conflict between Buddhism and the Intercepting Sect left the defenses of West Niuhe Continent compromised, allowing Demon Ancestor Luohu to emerge. Luohu's immense Merit healed his injuries and triggered the realm's birth through a black-hole rift. Dao Ancestor Hongjun declared that a demon realm was a necessary counterpart to the immortal realm, then sealed the rift until its eventual opening. 186

When the seal opened, the Demon Realm connected with the Three Realms and established the Primordial Four Realms. Major powers—including Xuanmen, Buddhism, the Demon Race, the Asura Clan, the Witch Clan, and the Human Race—mobilized armies to claim territory. 297

Geography and Nature

The Demon Realm is comparable to the Heavenly Realm in scale and is stated to equal dozens of ordinary great chiliocosms. It possesses a planar mainland, four seas, an infinite starry sky, an underground world, and a hidden world origin. 300

Rather than being wholly dark, the evolved Demon Realm contains sun, moon, stars, and varied forms of transformed demonic energy. Its development mirrors the differentiation of primordial energy into distinct forces and elemental phenomena. 300

Rule and Territorial Order

Rahu's Lordship

Rahu initially ruled the realm after making a Heavenly Dao oath and entering its origin. His Primordial Spirit imprint stabilized the world and allowed him to become its lord. 320 342

When Rahu withdrew his imprint during the conflict over the realm, its laws, continents, starry sky, and underground regions fell into disorder. Cultivation and comprehension of the realm's laws stagnated until a new controller emerged. 342

Primordial Heavenly Demon's Integration

Primordial Heavenly Venerate sent his evil corpse, Primordial Heavenly Demon, into the unstable origin. Its pure demonic aura allowed it to integrate with the Primordial True Demon Qi without suffering the rejection that an outside invader normally would. 342

The integration was initially incomplete, but it gave Primordial Heavenly Demon a decisive advantage in the contest for control. It subsequently established a new central continent after the original central continent was destroyed. 342 343

After the realm was reshaped, the Heavenly Origin Sect retained the central continent and the Intercepting Sect discreetly held the southern continent. Buddhism, the Witch Clan, the Asura Cult, and the Demon Teachings relinquished their wider territorial claims after suffering severe losses. 446

Defenses and Native Forces

The realm's native forces included devils, demonic creatures, Demon Kings, Demon Emperors, heavenly demons, and numerous independent tribes and kingdoms. Luohu's control over these groups was incomplete; before the opening, devils at the boundary openly anticipated invading and consuming beings from the Three Realms. 298

At the entrance rift, the native army deployed three thousand black stone pillars covered in demon patterns. Their interwoven demonic energy formed a defensive demonic kingdom within the passage. 299

Demon Realm cities also employed bizarre altars capable of trapping or resisting invading experts. Nether Moon Demon God used one such altar to oppose Winged Immortal during the early invasion. 300

Invasion and War for the Realm

The armies of the Three Realms entered through a million-li rift after the collision of the two realms' laws began to dissipate. Hundreds of millions of immortals gathered outside the entrance, while native devils prepared to counterattack. 297 298

The invading forces divided by direction after entry:

• The Human Teachings and Heavenly Origin Sect advanced east. 300
• The Demon Teachings and Asura Cult advanced north. 300
• The Witch Clan, led by Chi You, charged toward the central continent. 300
• The Intercepting Sect and Heavenly Court advanced together under Emperor Ziwei of the Central Pole of the North. 300

The initial campaign lasted a century. Invading armies occupied territory and slaughtered resisting native forces, while three Demon Emperors gathered demon armies for a decisive defense. 300

The struggle intensified when the King of Baleen Snakes massacred tens of millions of immortals from the Human Teachings and Heavenly Origin Sect, demonstrating that the realm contained ancient powers beyond the invading factions' expectations. 318

The later battle for the Ancestral Demon Palace drew Saints, Hunyuan experts, major sects, native demons, and demon emperors into a conflict that determined the realm's political structure. 329 339 342

Relations with Other Factions

• Intercepting Sect — Established the first stable power base in the Southern Continent; its inclusive doctrine made it comparatively easier for Demon Realm beings to accept. 343 403

Later Decline

During the End of Dharma Tribulation, the Demon Realm's factions stopped cultivating new disciples except for those with potential to attain the Dao. They sealed their cave dwellings and conserved dwindling spiritual energy rather than wage further wars. 426

The realm later suffered near-total depopulation; its surviving inhabitants entered dormancy and only gradually awakened when spiritual energy began to recover. 444
