Primordial Heavenly Venerate is one of the Three Pure Ones, a legitimate descendant of Pangu and one of Dao Ancestor Hongjun's three eldest disciples. During Hongjun's distribution of treasures, he receives the Pangu Banner, a Supreme Innate Spiritual Treasure; his status immediately sets him apart from the other great divine-ability users 11.

He establishes the Chan Sect—later referred to as the Heavenly Origin Sect—on Mount Kunlun. Its doctrine selects disciples through merit and destiny, in contrast to Tongtian's more open acceptance of sincere seekers 25.
