Background / History
The Spirit Realm was once connected to the Sky Abyss Realm through an ascension passage. Four Seas Hermit severed that passage and disrupted the Sky Abyss Realm's coordinates during his attempt to harvest its origin, isolating it from the Spirit Realm. His defeat left behind the Four Seas Bead, whose Star Maps preserved the Spirit Realm's precise coordinates. 303
Chen Sheng later revealed these coordinates to the Carefree Heavenly Venerate and Zuo Xuan Heavenly Venerate. The map greatly improved the party's odds of surviving a forced crossing through the Great Void. 305
At the end of the five-hundred-year deadline, Chen Sheng, Chen Xihua, Golden Feather Demon Lord, Carefree Heavenly Venerate, and Zuo Xuan Heavenly Venerate crossed the Spatial Turbulence through a passage opened by Chen Xihua's Void Destruction Sword Dao. They reached the Spirit Realm after several years of travel. 307
Environment
- The Spirit Realm possesses abundant spiritual energy, a profound origin, and resources capable of supporting higher cultivation and restoring the lifespans of lower-realm Spirit Transformation cultivators. 304 308
- Its realm barrier shows little hostility toward cultivators arriving from lower realms, unlike the Sky Abyss Realm's highly repulsive barrier. 308
- Its Dao laws are extremely rigorous and difficult to comprehend; Spirit Transformation cultivators find them far less accessible than the evolving laws of a damaged lesser world. 308
- As a Great Thousand World, its rules reflect the Great Void. Cultivation systems in worlds within the Great Void generally retain broad similarities to the Spirit Realm's system. 389
- Its spiritual resources are superior to those of lower realms, but its cultivation environment is less suited to direct Dao-law comprehension than a minor world. 304 306
Races and Territories
The Spirit Realm is inhabited by myriad competing races whose territories are strictly divided. The Human Race, Demon Race, and Devil Race occupy core regions with the richest spiritual energy, and border patrols routinely expel or kill unauthorized outsiders. 310
- Human Race — Controls regions such as the Yellow Mound Plains, where more than a hundred kingdoms are located. 310
- Demon Race — Has deep foundations and territory far from human lands; Golden Feather Demon Venerable departed from the arriving group to locate his clan. 308 310
- Devil Race — One of the major races occupying spiritually rich core territories. 310
Known Locations
| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| White Cloud City | A city in the Yellow Mound Plains under the Upper Origin Ancient Kingdom. Its lord is a Nascent Soul middle-stage cultivator, while the kingdom's ancestor is a Spirit Transformation cultivator. It possesses a Star Observation Platform. 310 |
| Yellow Mound Plains | Human territory containing more than a hundred kingdoms comparable to the Upper Origin Ancient Kingdom. 310 |
| Four Seas Secret Realm | A cultivation ground within the Four Seas Bead, containing ninety-nine converging Fifth Tier Spirit Veins and formations that organize Dao principles. Its spiritual qi rivals the core cave mansions of some Spirit Realm sects. 315 |
| Three Extremes Domain | A region where each prefecture has no fewer than tens of thousands of young Spirit Transformation cultivators competing for advancement. 321 |
| Chongli Heaven | A region inhabited by cultivators from both the Spirit Realm and the Taiyi Realm, including people bearing traits of both worlds. 376 |
Cultivation
The Spirit Realm's cultivation system divides advancement into more stages than some other worlds, making early cultivation comparatively easier despite the difficulty of Dao comprehension. 377
- Spirit Transformation cultivators are commonly called Soul Transformation cultivators in some descriptions of the realm. 324
- Void Refining cultivation involves evolving Dao domains, refining the Great Void, establishing channels, and drawing in spiritual qi. Heaven and Earth Origin becomes a principal cultivation resource at this stage. 494
- Dao Crystals, formed by fusing top-grade spirit stones with a cultivator's Dao principles, serve as both currency and cultivation aids after Spirit Transformation. 494
- Spirit Realm body cultivators primarily excavate divine abilities from their bloodlines, generally limiting them to one or two such abilities in a lifetime. 377
Role in the Story
- The Spirit Realm represents a route beyond the Sky Abyss Realm's damaged origin, depleted spiritual energy, and limited lifespan for Spirit Transformation cultivators. 304
- Its rediscovered coordinates motivate the five Spirit Transformation cultivators' dangerous crossing through the Great Void. 305 307
- Upon arrival, its dense spiritual energy restores and extends the travelers' lifespans, but its stricter Dao laws force them to adapt to a more demanding cultivation environment. 308
- Chen Sheng establishes branches of the Madam Chen lineage across the realm over several decades, selecting stable Spiritual Vein sites and protecting them with formations. 319
- The realm remains dangerous even for powerful newcomers, due to its racial divisions, local cultivators, and the limitations imposed by its Dao-comprehension environment. 310 319
