Background / History

Qin Yuan was the son of Qin Shuang, who failed his Foundation Establishment attempt and departed, leaving Yuan in Qin Dajiang's care 15. He possessed a low-grade Wood Spiritual Root, but was raised with the hope that he could live peacefully despite his limited aptitude 13.

As a boy, Yuan was notably composed: he stood straight, answered clearly, and showed little childishness. Chen Sheng saw Qin Shuang in him and chose to teach him alchemy after learning that his own son lacked a Spiritual Root 15. Yuan formally became Chen Sheng's disciple by kneeling and kowtowing three times, injuring his forehead through sheer earnestness 15.

After Qin Dajiang's death, Yuan remained under Chen Sheng's care and struggled openly with his grandfather's loss 16. He devoted himself to cultivation and alchemy rather than marriage, repeatedly rejecting matchmaking efforts 22 23.

In his later life, Yuan traveled throughout the Four Seas cultivation world. During an expedition to Youming Island, he suffered a hidden injury that permanently damaged his Dao foundation; he remained at late-stage Foundation Establishment and could not advance his alchemy beyond Second-tier Top-grade 243. He founded the Nianchen Sect, compiled his alchemy and fire-technique inheritances for his disciples, and remained there until the end of his lifespan 243.

Appearance

As a child, Qin Yuan had a straight back, clear eyes, and a calmness beyond his years 15. As an adult, he grew as tall as Chen Sheng, with a clean, handsome face, gentle brows, and a marked resemblance to his father Qin Shuang 21.

Personality

Qin Yuan was diligent, composed, and unusually serious from a young age. He listened closely even to alchemical discussions beyond his current understanding, forcing himself to remember what he could not yet grasp 18.

He was also deeply resolute. He prioritized cultivation and alchemy over marriage, pursuing Foundation Establishment and the Dao despite concern from Chen Sheng's household that he had delayed his own life 22 23. His later refusal to marry remained absolute 243.

Qin Yuan possessed exceptional aptitude for alchemy and became Chen Sheng's chosen successor in the Way of Alchemy.

• Qin Dajiang — Grandfather and caretaker. He entrusted Yuan's future to Chen Sheng before his death 15 16.
• Qin Shuang — Father. Yuan strongly resembled him; Qin Shuang's failed Foundation Establishment attempt and departure left Yuan behind 15 21.
• Tang Xichen — Senior Sister. She showed concern for Yuan after Qin Dajiang's death and provided the Body Tempering method that Chen Sheng passed on to him 16 25.
• Huang Yueyang — Master’s grandfather. He praised Yuan's progress and hoped Yuan would carry their alchemy lineage forward 18.
• Qin Yucheng — Later Sect Master of Nianchen Sect and descendant of Yuan's fourth disciple; clarified that Yuan never married or had blood descendants 243.

Legacy

Qin Yuan founded the Nianchen Sect on Haiyuan Island and passed his alchemy and fire-technique inheritances to seven disciples, all of whom received the Qin surname 243. Two thousand years later, Chen Sheng found that the sect still retained recognizable elements of Yuan's teachings in its fire techniques and alchemical principles 243.

Chen Sheng also learned that Yuan had apparently been selected as an inheritor of the Four Seas Bead due to his rare alchemy talent. However, his injury prevented him from reaching the Third-grade alchemy or Golden Core threshold needed to access the inheritance's deeper opportunities 243.
