Background
Qi Mang ruled Mang Mountain before encountering Chen Sheng. His Golden Seal was the foundation of his existence, yet he suppressed his reluctance and offered it when Chen Sheng requested to borrow it, demonstrating an instinct for survival and an ability to yield before overwhelming power. 484
Yuanji brought Qi Mang to the Panwu Realm and gave him three months to achieve initial mastery of a scripture. He completed the comprehension in two months after calming the impatience and greed that initially disturbed his focus. 484 485
Chen Sheng accepted him as a named disciple and presented two paths: the Illusory Heart Nine Scrolls or the Heavenly Emperor Myriad Tribulations Yin Spirit Transformation Saint Golden Chapter. Qi Mang selected the latter, a Tribulation-and-Fortune method Chen Sheng hoped to refine through his cultivation. 485
After being returned to Mang Mountain with his Golden Seal reforged, Qi Mang established his superiority over the local cultivation world by killing the Celestial Master of Xishan Dao. 485 He later became the Emperor of the Wu Kingdom, where he ordered officials to protect the Benevolent Herbs Hall and elevated Liu Chu to Prefect of Nanzhou. 491
Appearance
Qi Mang usually appears as an exceptionally handsome black-robed man with an upright, restrained bearing and a faintly oppressive majesty. 491
- His human form is associated with contained Calamity Qi and Primordial Spirit pressure. 493
- His Mountain Lord true form is a variegated tiger roughly ten zhang long, with cold star-like eyes and golden Dao patterns around its claws. 485
- He can also manifest as a black calamity tiger after leaving the Heaven-Connecting Immortal Path. 508
Personality
Qi Mang is disciplined, pragmatic, and highly conscious of the difference in strength between himself and others. When Chen Sheng took his Golden Seal, he chose humility over resistance; Chen Sheng consequently described him as someone who “can bend and stretch.” 484
His reverence toward Chen Sheng is unwavering. He addresses Chen Sheng and Huang Wangyou with formal filial respect, credits his progress to his master's guidance, and measures his own path by steady advancement rather than comparison with other cultivators. 491 493 508
In battle, Qi Mang is cold and decisive. He killed the Sun Refining Venerable without leaving behind even a Primordial Spirit, but he also accepts defeat calmly and learns from difficult matches during the Domain Competition. 498 501
