Running for Their Lives
Having learned from the previous example, none of the other black men in the back of pickup trucks had the courage to stand up and control the machine gun.
Reckless driving on such uneven roads can cause injury even with a seatbelt in the car. How much more so for those without any protective gear—they dared to try and stand up in the back of a truck?
However, while machine guns were unusable, other pistols and rifles didn't have this problem. As long as they could secure their bodies, these black men continued to unleash a hail of bullets at the two fleeing vehicles.
However, the main target was the Land Rover driven by Mark, which was following behind. The lead car was going very fast, and almost all the vehicles were chasing it, so the lagging car behind naturally became the primary target of the pursuers.
Sam and Old Bernie fired back from the car windows on either side, but unfortunately, two guns were no match for more than a dozen guns.
Even though at that speed and in those conditions, the sharpshooter and the black guys who only knew how to shoot out of faith were on the same level, some bullets were lucky enough to get inside the car, making Sam and the others scream in pain.
Sam, also a young man, retorted indignantly, "Fuck! Mark, can't you pick up that damn Madfuck gun and fight back too?"
Mark, his hair standing on end, roared, "Shut up! Shut your dog mouth! Don't bother me. Do you know how nervous I am right now, just to keep up with that dog Huizi!"
"Madfak, is this lady looking for that damn assistant from the rally track? If you don't want to crash, don't bother me while I'm driving. I don't have time for a gun right now, you know? I don't have time for that damn gun!"
Mark glanced at the speedometer, which was already past 100 km/h, and realized he was even more nervous than he'd made it out to be. He'd never flinched during a surprise attack on the enemy amidst a hail of bullets, but now his palms and forehead were sweating profusely.
Others might have been distracted by the gunfight and failed to notice their speed, but surely Mark, who was following behind, understood?
First, they weren't driving on a proper road, meaning the surface wasn't smooth. But no matter how bumpy the surface...
It was still possible to find a relatively smooth route, which was the route taken by the car in front driven by Henry.
Keep in mind that their vehicles are four-wheel drive; as long as all four tires can grip the ground firmly, they can provide maximum power. Therefore, by driving on a smooth surface and minimizing vehicle bounce, they can achieve the highest possible speed.
That's what Henry did.
At first, Mark didn't notice this; he was simply following behind the car in front. Back then, their Land Rover was like Tigger, bouncing around.
It wasn't until he noticed the trickery of the car in front of him—its smooth, silky ride like a racetrack—that Mark paid attention to the tracks ahead and followed the same route.
This movement significantly increased his speed and made the vehicle much smoother.
However, the increased speed of the car behind did not allow him to catch up with the car in front; instead, it prompted Henry's car in front to accelerate even further, as if the car in front had not been running hard earlier in order to wait for the car behind to catch up.
This discovery, while not infuriating for Mark, did dampen his confidence. Watching the car ahead sway slightly from side to side, Mark pursued it even more intently.
Once he gets used to a certain speed, the car in front will take him to the next speed. Until now, both Land Rover are traveling at an average speed of around 120 kilometers per hour.
On the grasslands, herbivores that primarily use running to escape can travel at speeds between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour.
Lions can reach speeds of around 80 kilometers per hour, while the fastest cheetahs can reach speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour. However, these predators do not maintain their top speeds for long; they only experience brief bursts of speed.
Human-made cars on the grasslands are not known for their speed, but rather for their "endurance." As long as they have fuel, they can keep running.
However, cars wouldn't be driven at such high speeds on the grasslands. In any case, racing and off-road racing are two different fields of competition, and no one dares to mix them up.
But now the two Land Rover were driving at speeds only allowed on regular roads. Didn't they see that the pursuing vehicles, whether SUVs or pickup trucks, were bouncing around like bouncy cars, making the black guys inside question their existence?
Moreover, besides the bumpy ride, the biggest problem with the pursuing vehicles was that their tires weren't firmly gripping the ground, preventing them from providing full power output. Naturally, their speed was slower than the two Land Rover, and they gradually fell behind.
If someone floores the accelerator and tries to follow, you don't even need bullets to deal with them. Just run over a hole in the ground, and the whole car will immediately go out of control. If you're lucky, you'll just bounce big; if you're unlucky, you'll skid and fishtail; if you're unlucky, you'll just flip over.
These guys are Old Black who've lived on the grasslands their whole lives. They can't drive at that speed, but Henry in front of them did.
Mark, following closely behind, was drenched in sweat, terrified that the scenes of those car crashes would repeat themselves. He didn't want to be robbed and killed.
I also don't want to die in a car accident.
If the car overturns and you survive, but get beaten to death by the Old Black who catches up—that's a double tragedy, a truly damn tragic ending.
Sam actually wants him to shoot right now! If Mark had the chance to get his hands on a gun, he'd shove it up Sam's Barry and pull the trigger a few times.
However, Mark's hard work in chasing the car wasn't without its benefits; at least they were gradually putting distance between themselves and their pursuers.
But the downside is also obvious: the pursuers started focusing their fire on his closer following vehicle, rather than on the more distant preceding vehicle.
Mark didn't even have the energy to curse anymore. Because the madman leading the way had increased his speed once again.
Among the vehicles that suddenly gave chase, one sped off at an unrepentant speed. Sure enough, although it broke free of the original traffic, it didn't get very far before it was thrown into the air by the bumps in the road, and the whole car even began to tumble in the air.
Just as Mark was thinking this was another idiot, a black guy jumped out of the back of the flying pickup truck. His jumping ability was astonishing, far exceeding that of an average person. And he headed straight for the car Henry was driving.
"Fuck Mutants!" Mark cursed, guessing the other party's possible identity.
If the other vehicle jumps up and interferes with the driver of the car in front, slowing them down, it would be quite disadvantageous for them.
But that didn't happen. A hand reached out from the driver's side window of the car in front, holding a Colt Pistol, and fired three shots, intercepting the Mutants with incredible jumping ability in mid-air.
The force of the bullet struck him, preventing the Mutants from reaching his destination and causing him to fall halfway. His body landed right in front of one of the pursuers' vehicles, becoming a sudden obstacle.
Unsurprisingly, the car that ran over the unfortunate Mutants also took to the air and tumbled through the air.
