Enemy Reinforcements
After making sure his employer and the vehicle were safe, Brian put on his own bulletproof vest. He then turned to Henry in the front seat and asked, "Bulletproof vest? Gun?"
"Just give me a pistol. I don't have time to let go of my hands right now." Henry, with the accelerator practically floored, dared not relax for a moment.
Driving on unofficial roads is where road conditions are most difficult to judge. One wrong step and your tires could get stuck in a mud pit. If you're lucky, you'll just get stuck and won't be able to get out even if you step on the gas. If you're unlucky, you could lose control and overturn.
Brian took a Colt M1911 and placed it on the passenger seat. He then took a rifle, leaned halfway out of the window, and fired a few shots backward. At the same time, he used this opportunity to observe his surroundings.
Back in the car, Brian said, "There's a convoy coming from about two or three kilometers away. The dust on the prairie isn't as noticeable as in the desert, so we can't tell how big they are. Do you know how to get there, Henry?"
"Back to the airport? Do you have any way to contact the airport beforehand to make preparations, or to be careful that someone doesn't try to take them down?" Henry replied.
Since only one pursuing vehicle was blocked by the car behind, Brian only fired a few shots occasionally to show his presence and conserve ammunition.
When asked to contact someone at the airport, he immediately pulled out a satellite phone and dialed the captain who was waiting next to the plane at the airport.
The call connected quickly. Brian immediately asked, "Luca, is everything alright on your end?"
"No, that's good. We've been ambushed by a group of kidnappers, and we're trying to shake them off."
"I'm informing you now to prepare for takeoff. But don't make any obvious movements to avoid attracting attention. I'm not sure if these kidnappers have accomplices; we can send some men to the airport to attack you."
"Remember to fill up the tank with fuel, and complete all pre-flight checks. Warm up the engine if necessary, and take off immediately upon arrival."
After giving the instructions, Brian turned to the man in the driver's seat and asked, "Henry, how long are you confident it will take to get back to the airport?"
"Two hours," Henry replied. That was even shorter than the time it took them to get here. After all, when they came, it wasn't like this; even a small dent made the whole car bounce violently as if it were about to take off.
However, if Henry and the others don't go in the wrong direction and can't slow down, they'll be able to get back to the airport in two hours.
This meant it was destined to be a less than comfortable journey.
Brian received the answer and immediately told the person on the phone, "We'll be back at the airport in about two hours. Get ready. Also, take out your guns. If anyone comes looking for trouble, you'd better protect yourselves."
After the call ended, Brian put away the satellite phone. He then explained to the other two people in the car, "There are no problems at the airport. We'll take off as soon as we arrive."
At that moment, Audrey suddenly asked, "Henry, what happened to your stomachache earlier?"
"That was an act, boss. Don't worry about me."
"Okay, you fooled me." Audrey seemed unaware of the danger she was in, instead worrying about trivial matters.
This mindset is undeniably impressive. Perhaps it's the composure unique to older people. Henry and Brian both thought so.
If it were a teenage girl, she would scream like a pig being slaughtered, crying desperately for her mother.
Many people have overlooked the fact that Audrey Hepburn spent her childhood in the Netherlands during World War II, when it was occupied by the Soviet Union.
She also assisted the Dutch Resistance, and her family even hid Allies soldiers. Although she may not have been on the front lines or fired a gun, she was by no means an ethereal little girl.
Even knowing all this, neither Henry nor Brian would hand her a gun. Being fearless of the threat of war is one thing, but killing is quite another.
Besides, if she, the employer, has to personally intervene in such a situation, wouldn't it be a waste of her time to hire such a Legion of people?
Henry focused most of his energy on driving and keeping an eye on the pursuers' movements, while his mind raced with various strategies.
"Watch out!" Henry suddenly shouted a warning to the two people in the car. He turned the steering wheel, swerved the car, and narrowly avoided an SUV that was crashing into him from the side.
He grabbed the pistol from the passenger seat, fired two shots out the window, and then threw the gun back onto the passenger seat.
Unlike shooting at others with broken hearts, where it's purely a matter of faith and luck is the only way to hit someone, Henry, aided by the Kryptonian ' Super Senses and Super Brain, can hit exactly where he points, even at two speeding vehicles.
One of the shots hit the front tire, and the other pierced the windshield, killing the driver of the SUV.
The jeep that Range Rover suddenly lost control and flipped into the air because of a tire blowout and its inability to avoid a hole in the ground!
The few people in the car who weren't used to wearing seatbelts were all thrown out, letting out piercing screams.
"That's a really good shot, kid!" Brian exclaimed.
"Another car is coming," Henry warned. Brian squeezed in front of the ladies' seat and fired at the driver's side. Just as Henry had said, the convoy chasing them had caught up from the side.
It can only be said that the lead vehicle of the opposing convoy was very experienced in intercepting vehicles on the grasslands. Unless Henry and his men deviated from the route and were forced to move away from the direction of the airport, they would inevitably be caught up by this convoy if they tried to return to the airport.
Therefore, they only have two options: to defeat the other party or to shake them off.
Fortunately, the interception failed. Just before the other car blocked his path, Henry broke through and smashed the lead car.
The support convoy had no choice but to make a sharp turn, rejoin the jeep driven by the guide, and chase after them.
Henry and his two cars went from a leisurely, high-speed drive to a perilous chase.
Take those pickup trucks with machine guns, for example. If anyone were to stand up and fire, at least one of those trucks would be wiped out today.
Fortunately, at the current speed, no one could stand on the bumpy back of the truck.
A young black man, defiant of the danger, stood up from the back of the truck, pulled the trigger of the machine gun, and prepared to fire.
Unexpectedly, the pickup truck jerked, causing him to swing his gun directly at the front of his own vehicle, smashing the driver's head open.
Xiao Hei, who was thrown into the air, eventually lost his grip on the machine gun and was thrown out of the vehicle. The vehicle he was originally in didn't fare any better.
Seeing the driver killed by a bullet from who-knows-where, the black passenger in the passenger seat hurriedly grabbed the steering wheel.
The impact of the car hitting the ground caused the black man in the passenger seat to lose control of the vehicle. The sudden change in the angle of the front wheels caused the pickup truck to completely lose control. First, it skidded, and then it rolled several times on its side.
The car that was still in pursuit had long since disappeared into the distance.
