Background / History

Zhu Huan served as captain of Qingcheng's constables for seven years, making him the yamen's longest-serving member apart from Magistrate Fang Youting. He initially treated Wei Qing with considerable deference because of the Heavenly Realm Division's authority and the cultivation he believed Wei Qing was concealing 3.

During the Smiling Death Incident, Zhu Huan supplied Wei Qing with details on the deaths across Qingcheng's villages, recommended a daytime investigation of Longdong Village, and led him there. He remained in the abandoned village despite its oppressive demonic aura, invoking the duty to eradicate demons and uphold justice 3 4 5.

After Wei Qing killed a two-tailed Spirit Stream Demonic Cat, Zhu Huan attempted to assassinate him and revealed his demonic power. He stated that his actions were driven by vengeance over his mother's death and a desire to make those responsible “atone” 6. Wei Qing overwhelmed him with a mental attack before the arrival of Zhu Huan's father, the Four-tailed Spirit Stream Demonic Cat 7.

Following the battle, Luo Liuli imposed a Master-servant contract linking Zhu Huan to Wei Qing, erased his demonic markings, and healed his body. Zhu Huan expressed remorse for betraying humanity and accepted Wei Qing as his master 8 35.

As Wei Qing's subordinate, Zhu Huan revealed Fang Xiang's demon collaboration and his trafficking of people as “live cargo.” He subsequently helped secure Fang Manor, restrain enraged civilians, command constables during the City God Temple operation, and continue Qingcheng's yamen duties after Wei Qing's departure 9 10 20 24 41.

Zhu Huan is a sturdy, middle-aged man who wears a constable's uniform and carries a long saber at his waist 3.

Personality

Zhu Huan initially presents himself as dutiful, respectful, and protective of Qingcheng. He takes the village deaths seriously, respects Fang Youting's service to the people, and refuses to abandon Wei Qing inside the demon-infested Longdong Village despite his fear 4 5.

His betrayal exposes deep resentment and a willingness to pursue strength through demonic power. After being bound to Wei Qing, however, he becomes remorseful and highly obedient. Wei Qing's warning over the Fang Manor escape attempt makes him resolve never again to fail in carrying out an order 6 8 13.
