Chapter 40: I Don't Want to Come Out For Now
"From now on, we're family."
"Pinky promise, Shisui-bro. You can't lie."
"Of course. How could I lie to you? Once we promise, it won't change."
"You're all I have left, Shisui-bro."
Murmuring, Kagami, utterly exhausted, slowly fell asleep on Shisui's back.
Everything that had happened recently was too much for him to bear.
When Kagami woke up again, he was already lying in his own bed at home. Kagami got up and walked outside. In the living room, there were two bodies covered with white cloths. Shisui and Itachi stood beside them.
Seeing Kagami emerge, Shisui and Itachi shifted their gaze to him. They had been waiting quietly here for Kagami to wake up, wanting to comfort him in his most painful moment. But when it came time for Kagami to face his parents, neither of them knew how to offer comfort.
Kagami stared blankly at the two bodies covered by white cloths. Even without lifting the cloths, he knew what lay beneath.
"How did my parents die?"
"They were taken by Danzō with you. Afterward, it's said they committed suicide in prison."
"Ah, I see..."
Tears streamed down his face uncontrollably. Kagami had thought he had already cried on the way. He had wanted to face his parents with a clean face, smiling and telling them he was fine and they didn't need to worry. But seeing them now, Kagami knew he was still wrong. Seven years of upbringing, even a dog would form an incredibly deep bond, let alone him.
He didn't want to cry. He wanted to smile at his parents and tell them everything was fine, but the tears just kept flowing.
Danzō! Danzō!! Danzō!!!
In his heart, Kagami roared hysterically. Suicide? Suicide?! Why would his parents commit suicide when they were fine? Even if they did, could that absolve Danzō, who had kidnapped them?
His palms bled from his fingernails digging into them. His lips were clamped shut by his teeth, biting through and drawing blood, which mixed with the tears flowing down his cheeks.
The next second, Kagami suddenly forced a smile.
"Father, Mother, your son is doing well."
Kagami seemed to know what his parents would worry about before they left. He didn't need to guess; he knew that this couple, until the very end, must have been thinking of their beloved son.
His black eyes rapidly turned blood-red. One tomoe appeared above his pupils, spinning quickly. Then, a second tomoe appeared, but it wasn't over. The spinning tomoe began to reveal a third one!
The Three Tomoe Sharingan.
Feeling the growing power in his eyes, Kagami smiled tragically.
"One day, one day, I will make that guy feel this pain too."
That guy, of course, referred to Danzō.
Shisui looked at the Three Tomoe Sharingan in Kagami's eyes, his heart aching. He had promised not to let Kagami awaken this cursed eye, but now it was already Three Tomoe...
"Kagami, I..."
Kagami ignored Shisui because his Three Tomoe suddenly saw two faint sources of chakra.
"What is this..."
Kagami carefully lifted the white cloth. Beneath it lay Uchiha Takashi, resting peacefully.
The chakra Kagami saw was emanating from Uchiha Takashi's eyes.
Kagami's teeth began to tremble. He had realized something. He carefully pried open Uchiha Takashi's eyelids, revealing a pair of eyes with a pattern like shuriken, surrounded by a circle.
Eyes with such patterns could only mean one thing: the Mangekyo Sharingan.
Looking at these eyes, Kagami felt no joy, no sorrow, only endless rage.
"Danzō! Danzō! Did he force Father to kill Mother? Danzō!!!"
Kagami's voice wasn't loud, as his body was still weak, but the hatred in his voice was immense.
Afterward, Kagami asked Shisui to help him retrieve his father's Mangekyo. He was afraid that one day, Danzō might implant these Mangekyo eyes into his own sockets. If that happened, Kagami would only feel utterly disgusted.
Everything had come to an end. The world would not change because of the death of this couple, only a child would convulse in pain because of their demise.
In the following days, Itachi and several Uchiha clan members helped Kagami bury his parents.
Kagami stood blankly before the tombstone, snow still falling.
Every so often, Kagami would bend down to brush the snow off the tombstone for his parents.
"Father, Mother, are you cold?"
Kagami asked sincerely, as if they were still alive, but no one answered him.
The snow fell harder and faster, piling up more quickly. Kagami bent down again to brush the snow off his parents' tombstone.
"It's good that you're not cold. It's good..."
Konoha Year 56, January 1st.
Many in Konoha were celebrating the arrival of the New Year. Even Naruto was smiling happily. Although no one played with him, seeing everyone so happy, he couldn't help but feel happy too.
Suddenly, Naruto noticed someone different. He didn't look happy at all, his face was calm, and Naruto vaguely sensed a hint of sadness.
"That's Kagami!"
Naruto recognized him. The person was a super genius from their same year who had graduated early and become a Genin after the last semester ended.
"Kagami! Kagami!"
Naruto called out to Kagami while waving.
Kagami, who was walking on the road, was startled. He had just returned from his parents' graves. Why was someone suddenly calling him?
He looked over in the direction of the voice and saw a blond kid.
"Naruto?"
"Yeah, yeah, it's me! You haven't forgotten me, have you? Even though you became a Genin early, which is pretty impressive, don't forget that one day, I'll make you want to fight me! And then, I'll defeat you! Make you admit defeat! Hahahaha."
Kagami smiled faintly.
"Is that so? Then I'll be waiting for you."
Naruto frowned. He always felt that Kagami's smile was a bit strange, as if it carried a hint of sadness? But why would he have such a strange smile? Was something wrong with him? Naruto asked softly, instinctively wanting to smooth away that sadness. His nature was like that; he wanted to help Kagami.
"Kagami, what's wrong?"
Kagami looked at Naruto before him and suddenly felt emotional. Ah, right. This person had lost his parents when he was even younger than Naruto. Compared to him, Kagami had already received enough. He had received seven years of parental love; he was very fortunate.
"It's nothing, Naruto. If... I mean, if one day I were to attack the village, would you stop me?"
Naruto asked strangely.
"What are you talking about, Kagami? Aren't you a ninja of the village too? And a great genius. Of course, we'll protect the village together in the future."
Kagami looked at the innocence in Naruto's eyes and decided not to continue. He smiled.
"You're right. Forget what I just said. That's all for today; I have things to do, so I'll be going now."
After speaking, Kagami turned and left.
Naruto, I'm not as good as you. You were born in darkness, yet you tried your best to rush towards the light. As for me, I was born in the light, and then someone cruelly dragged me into the darkness. I'm tired. Since I've entered, I don't plan on coming out for now. I'll look at the things in the sunlight again after I've purged the people in the darkness.
Naruto scratched his head and watched Kagami's retreating back.
"Are all geniuses this hard to understand? Damn it."
Good morning, everyone! It's a new day again. I hope everyone is happy!
I was so happy with all the comments yesterday. Today, I'll continue to ask for recommendation tickets and comments.
Thank you, everyone!
