History

Founding

Konoha was established after Madara Uchiha and Hashirama Senju ended the conflict between the Uchiha and Senju clans. Both clans moved into the new settlement, which Madara named “Konoha.” 218 220

The Land of Fire and Konoha formed an early alliance intended to let the country and village coexist. A conference with the Daimyo established the Hokage system and a democratic method of selection; Hashirama won the first election by an overwhelming majority and became the First Hokage. 220 221

Uchiha isolation

Following the Nine-Tails' Rampage, Konoha's leadership relocated the Uchiha compound to the village outskirts and excluded the clan from central affairs. The isolation was understood by Kagato as an attempt to push the Uchiha away from Konoha's center while burdening them with lesser work. 7

The worsening relationship affected ordinary clan relations as well: members of prominent Konoha clans were warned away from the Uchiha, while the Uchiha reputation for arrogance further deepened resentment. 2

Uchiha Clan Extermination

The Uchiha clan's planned coup culminated in Itachi Uchiha exterminating most of his clan to prevent a rebellion and preserve Konoha's military stability. Sasuke survived, while Itachi left the village afterward. 52 53

In the aftermath, Danzō was removed as the Hokage's assistant and Root was disbanded because of its connection to the incident. Konoha nevertheless lost the Uchiha clan and one of its strongest shinobi in Itachi, leaving the village politically and militarily vulnerable. 53 54

Konoha Destruction

Orochimaru and Kagato later attacked Konoha during the Chunin Exams. The assault coincided with the rampages of the Nine-Tails and One-Tails, forcing Konoha to reseal both Tailed Beasts after severe casualties. 149

The attack killed the Third Hokage, Shimura Danzō, and advisors Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura. Kagato alone killed nearly one hundred Konoha shinobi while pursuing his revenge against those he held responsible for the Uchiha massacre. 149

Konoha subsequently allied with Sunagakure, while Jiraiya temporarily remained in the village to deter foreign aggression. Tsunade later became the Fifth Hokage and removed Kagato from Konoha's rogue-ninja list, ending the village's formal pursuit of him despite widespread opposition. 150 177
