Background / History

Early life

Kagami was a transmigrator who retained partial knowledge of major future events, including the Uchiha clan massacre. Born into the Uchiha clan, he spent his early childhood training stamina and shuriken skills because he expected to need to flee the coming disaster. At six, seeing Sasuke enroll at the Ninja Academy convinced him that he had little time left to survive. 1

His parents were Uchiha Takashi, a Chunin, and Uchiha Yuko. Takashi recognized his son's unusual diligence, taught him hand seals and ninjutsu, and hoped Kagami's three chakra natures would allow him to surpass the limitations Takashi faced as a one-nature Chunin. 1 5

Academy and Shisui's tutelage

Kagami became known as an Uchiha “genius” through effort rather than innate confidence. He regularly placed first in academy physical and shuriken exercises alongside Sasuke, while his focus on survival made him aloof toward most classmates. 1 8

After asking Shisui for instruction, Kagami trained under him in shuriken use, speed, genjutsu resistance, chakra transformations, and the Body Flicker Technique. Their political views differed—Kagami prioritized the Uchiha and his family, while Shisui sought peace between the clan and Konoha—but Shisui still treated him as a younger brother. 7 8

Kagami learned Fire Style: Great Fireball Technique, Shadow Clone Jutsu, lightning and earth transformations, and Shisui's Body Flicker. He graduated from the Academy after only one year, taking first place in every subject. 16 20

Genin period and loss

Assigned to Kakashi's team with Saito Daisuke and Suzuki Genji, Kagami spent two months on D-rank missions before receiving a C-rank tiger-extermination assignment. The mission led the team into an encounter with the masked Obito. 22 27

The attack left Kagami severely injured and cost him his teammates. Shisui found him afterward and blamed himself for failing to prevent Kagami's ocular power from evolving; Kagami withdrew from genin duties to recover and train. 30 32

Root later targeted Kagami directly. He killed two Root operatives using the Body Flicker and Instant Clones, after which Danzō framed and imprisoned his family. Danzō manipulated Takashi and Yuko into dying under the false promise that their deaths would secure Kagami's survival. 34 38

Defection and the clan massacre

Following Shisui's death and the destruction of his family, Kagami defected from Konoha and joined Akatsuki as an S-rank rogue ninja. He initially partnered with Tobi and later fought Root forces sent to eliminate him. 45 46

Though he would not participate in slaughtering his clansmen, Kagami returned during the Uchiha massacre to witness the clan's end and prevent Danzō from acquiring more Sharingan. He saved Uchiha Izumi from Tobi, brought her to Itachi, and later left Konoha with Itachi, Izumi, and Tobi. 51 53

Kagami's revenge focused on those who enabled the massacre. He eventually defeated Danzō, removed both of his Sharingan, broke Kotoamatsukami's control over him, and brought him to Shisui's grave before pursuing other Konoha elders involved in the extermination. 139 140 147

Departure from Akatsuki

After the attack on Konoha and the deaths of Danzō and Utatane Koharu, Kagami chose to leave Akatsuki with Karin and Haku. He abandoned his intended extermination of the Shimura clan and refused to use Impure World Reincarnation on Shisui or his parents, believing resurrection would force them to endure the devastation of the Uchiha clan and Konoha. 148 150

Journeys through the past

Kagami was transported to the Warring States period, where he encountered Madara Uchiha during the Uchiha-Senju war. Madara recognized that Kagami was not native to the era, treated him as an Uchiha comrade, and asked him to protect the clan's future. 204 206 207

He fought Senju forces, challenged Tobirama, battled a Wood Clone of Hashirama, and unveiled his golden Perfect Susanoo during the conflict between Hashirama and Madara. 214 215

After the founding of Konoha, Kagami persuaded Tobirama to teach him the Flying Thunder God Technique in exchange for three future interventions to protect the village. He later left to cultivate Sage Mode at Ryūchi Cave and erased memories of his presence in that era to protect the timeline. 218 219 227

Kagami also entered an earlier Uchiha era alongside Yuki. He protected Yuki and her mother, Shiina Momoko, from a clan dominated by Mangekyo users and Izanagi. His overwhelming Susanoo defeated the pursuing Uchiha, though many used Izanagi to escape at the cost of their eyes. 270 277

Fourth Great Ninja War

Hundreds of years later, Kabuto discovered Kagami's coffin, Rinnegan, and the Five-Tails sealed within his body. Kabuto revived him with Impure World Reincarnation but failed to control him. 281 282 286

Kagami temporarily allied with Shikamaru and the Allied Shinobi Forces, offering his strength in exchange for assistance locating a suitable Rinnegan host for his true resurrection. He saved the Fourth Division from Madara's meteorite attack but refused to fight Madara directly at first. 289

During the war, Kagami fought Kabuto, subdued Itachi and Sasuke with Rinnegan techniques, battled Madara and Obito, and used Annihilation to confront Madara after he became the Ten-Tails' jinchūriki. 291 294 305 315
