Background
Jesus lived in Woodbury and helped build it from its beginnings. By the time the Salvation Army began demanding food tribute, he had become Woodbury’s most capable scavenger and one of its elite fighters. Unlike Gregory, Woodbury’s fearful nominal leader, Jesus took responsibility for finding supplies and preventing the community from becoming the Salvation Army’s slaves. 151 152
With only three days to meet Gavin’s demands, Jesus infiltrated a zombie-infested department store in New Concord City. There he encountered Rick and Shane, whose armor, weapons, and ability to pass unnoticed by zombies revealed the strength of the Human Alliance. He chose to reveal himself and ask for help rather than lose Woodbury’s chance at survival. 152
Rick and Shane supplied Woodbury with food, armed Jesus with a pistol, and tasked him with gathering intelligence on the Salvation Army. Jesus then returned to Woodbury as a hero, introduced the possibility of trade and work with the Human Alliance, and began cultivating support among other communities exploited by Negan. 153 155
Personality
Jesus is courageous, community-minded, and deeply reluctant to abandon the people he has survived alongside. He openly recognizes that Woodbury has flaws and that its residents may hold prejudices against him, but refuses to leave them to the Salvation Army’s control. 153
He is also pragmatic when protecting others. Jesus agrees to pose as a Salvation Army informant, feeds Negan’s forces false intelligence, and uses his position to map tribute routes and identify oppressed settlements. 153 157 158
Despite his experience, Jesus does not treat danger casually. After the Stinger Squad is overwhelmed by Sound-Seeking Zombies, he admits that reliance on armor made the team reckless and argues that they must remain cautious. 175 180
Abilities & Skills
Close-Quarters Combat and Scavenging
Jesus is an experienced frontline fighter who uses stealth and cold weapons to operate in densely infested areas.
- Entered a department store surrounded by hundreds of zombies alone while searching for food for Woodbury. 152
- Uses a dagger and moves quietly enough to navigate debris without drawing zombie attention. 152
- Was regarded as Woodbury’s most elite warrior and most capable scavenger. 152
- His combat ability alone is not enough against specialized mutant threats; an Explosive Zombie incapacitated him despite his armor. 175
Infiltration and Deception
Jesus successfully operates within hostile factions while maintaining his loyalty to Woodbury and the Human Alliance.
- Joined the Salvation Army’s warrior ranks after negotiating directly with Negan. 154
- Offered to remain in Woodbury as the Salvation Army’s apparent mole, allowing him to monitor both sides. 153
- Provided Negan with prepared false intelligence regarding Daryl’s staged occupation of Woodbury. 157
- Mapped Salvation Army tribute routes and identified the Seaside Inn, Miner Camp, and High School Community as additional exploited settlements. 155
Tracking and Reconnaissance
Jesus has substantial field experience and is described as a former well-known lone ranger skilled at following traces.
- Examined the Virginia Transport Team’s ambush site alongside Michonne and the Stinger Squad. 174
- Recognized that week-old tracks had become too obscured to follow reliably, leading the squad to use trained hounds instead. 174
- Identified mycelium-like networks connected to mutant zombies’ brains through his armor’s thermal imaging system. 175
- Leads scouting and intelligence-gathering missions in the Radiation Zone. 174 180
Squad Command
As a Stinger Squad captain, Jesus leads elite Human Alliance personnel alongside Michonne.
- Was assigned with Captain Michonne to investigate the disappearance of a Virginia transport team. 174
- Coordinates field decisions with Michonne and accepts her command when he is incapacitated. 175
- Organized traps and tested new equipment before the successful second engagement against Sound-Seeking Zombies. 184
- Brought reinforcements and heavy weapons to Kennedy Amusement Park during the investigation of the Corpse Whisperer Empire. 186
Infection-Linked Zombie Avoidance
Jesus belongs to the infected veteran group selected for the Stinger Squad, whose condition enables them to avoid many ordinary zombie-related accidents.
- Michonne explains that the group’s infection is a key reason President Leon selected them for dangerous missions. 174
- He still relies on armor, scent-masking measures, weapons, and disciplined tactics against mutant zombies. 175
Equipment
- Dagger — used for close combat and stealth operations while scavenging. 152
- Pistol — provided by Rick and Shane when he began gathering intelligence on the Salvation Army. 153
- Assault rifle — carried during Radiation Zone operations. 162

- Combat potions — Strength, Hunter, and Recovery Potions used during high-risk Stinger Squad missions. 175
- Black metal power armor — worn during the search for Alex after a mini nuclear detonation in Europe. 207
Relationships
- Rick Grimes — Ally and Human Alliance contact who helped Jesus establish resistance to the Salvation Army and advised him to unite other oppressed survivor groups. 153 155
- Shane Walsh — Ally who worked with Rick and Jesus to plan operations against the Salvation Army. 153 157
- Michonne Hawthorne — Fellow Stinger Squad captain and frequent co-commander in Radiation Zone operations; they make major field decisions together. 174 184 186
- Daryl Dixon — Collaborator in the Woodbury deception plan; Jesus maintained the cover story that allowed Daryl’s elite unit to pose as hostile occupiers. 157 158
- Gregory — Woodbury’s nominal leader, whom Jesus considers too weak to protect the community from the Salvation Army. 151 153
- Gavin — Salvation Army officer whom Jesus negotiated with and deceived while posing as a prospective informant. 151 153
- Negan — Leader of the Salvation Army; Jesus joined his warriors to gather intelligence but despises his exploitation of weaker survivors. 154 157
- Jill — Stinger Squad member whom Jesus treats as a capable subordinate, sharing operational knowledge and leading her during Radiation Zone missions. 162 174 207
- Dwight — Former Salvation Army member whom Jesus protects from unnecessary danger after recognizing Dwight’s determination to survive for Sherry. 166

Double Agent Against the Salvation Army

Woodbury Operation
Jesus supports Rick, Shane, and Daryl’s plan to occupy Woodbury under the guise of hostile CRM deserters. He returns to Negan with deliberately misleading information while Daryl’s unit prepares the operation from inside the settlement. 157 158
