Nature of the Rank

Archmages have undergone a fundamental soul transformation. At Level 4, a wizard's source of magic power reaches spiritual materialization, while the soul can expand beyond a conventional physical body 797.

A physical body is no longer essential to an Archmage's continued existence, making them resistant to many ordinary forms of death. They can still be weakened, sealed, or otherwise defeated, particularly soon after promotion 797.

Incarnations and Projections

Archmages can act through physical vessels, projections, and soul manifestations rather than personally descending in their full state.

• An Incarnation is a vessel used to move and act in the Material World; its strength depends on the power invested in it 716.
• Archmage Malthus answered a summons through a semi-transparent, ghost-like projection 625.
• An Archmage of Level 5 or above was required to open a route for the invasion of the Allen Starfield 691.
• Roy's Archmage true form manifested as a giant spiritual body after the Nihebul Wizard Tower completed its energy charge 813.

Law and World-Level Influence

Archmages move beyond the conventional manipulation of magic power and begin dealing directly with Laws 786.

• Their power may be constrained by a Material World's energy or World Will, particularly for newly ascended Level 4 Archmages 799.
• Archmage Marshal spread the Net of Ten Thousand Spirits across an entire world, shielding it from deities, Legendary Mages, and other external entities 711.
• Level 6 Archmage Ulannach anchored his soul to a world and grew by devouring its World Will 839.

Known Archmages

• Gem — A 9th-ring Archmage who led Archinila's invasion and directed the calibration of a mage tower deployed through the Heavenly Meteor Nail 190.
• Malthus — An Archmage whose will was summoned by Fait and Lient after they negotiated for a World Tree Fruit on behalf of the Alliance 625.
• Marshal — A Grand Archmage who acted in the Astral Plane and deployed the Net of Ten Thousand Spirits during the campaign at Ktaphodi 700 711.
• Hofgi — A Level 5 Archmage whose avatar served as Dean of Academia 718.
• Freo — An Archmage of Archinila who controlled the Nihebul Mage Tower and secretly pursued the creation of the Level 4 King of Shadow Demons 801 805.
• Roy — Advanced to Level 4 and became an Archmage after soul metamorphosis in the Alagi World; he subsequently led the invasion of Nihebul 797 799.
• Wolley — An Archmage who employed Time Stop during the Meritus–Aoqiden war before being defeated by Roy's linked lightning attacks 821.
• Ulannach — A newly promoted Level 6 Archmage who sought the Behemoth God's Divine Spark to forge a Level 6 witch body 839.

• In the Arcane mage tradition, many Archmages deliberately retain the appearance of elderly, white-bearded mages because age is associated with wisdom, stability, and political credibility 716.
• The title is used by both Wizards and Arcane Mages, despite the two traditions' long-standing conflict 190 682.
