Origins and Early Condition
The Human Race was created by Nuwa from clay. Nuwa gained immense Merit and attained sainthood through their creation, but initially left her fragile creation to survive without meaningful protection. Their physical bodies and origins were far inferior to those of innate gods and demons, leaving them vulnerable to being hunted, raised as livestock, and eaten by stronger races—particularly the Demon Race 137.
The Three Pure Ones also incurred karma toward the Human Race when they achieved sainthood through it. Laozi established the Human Religion and used the Taiji Diagram to suppress its destiny, becoming a Saint as Merit descended 1 3.
The first generation of humans possessed innate Dao bodies and comparatively strong cultivation potential. As their bloodlines thinned over generations, this advantage declined sharply; a later Suiren Tribe had only one Earth Immortal, while most members were Human Immortals or mortals 203.
History
Early Persecution and Jiang Chen's Intervention
Human tribes initially endured the Primordial Era as prey. Tiger Demons openly slaughtered humans and fed them to their young, while humans lacked powerful protectors or the means to resist 22 23.
Jiang Chen returned to the Human Race, exterminated the attacking Tiger Demons, and met Suiren Shi, an early leader of the Suiren Tribe. His guidance inspired the humans to pursue self-improvement, drawing vast Merit that benefited the entire race 23 24.
The Human Race recognized Jiang Chen as its Sage Emperor, a status affirmed by the Heavenly Dao. He introduced fire-making through drilling wood, writing, clothing, and improved food practices; each contribution earned Merit and gave the race practical means to preserve its knowledge and survive 25.
Despite this progress, the Human Race remained a target. Demons later attacked the Suiren Tribe, severely injuring Ao Yu before Jiang Chen arrived to defeat the Demon Sage Gui Che. The humans urged Jiang Chen to leave afterward rather than endanger himself for them, demonstrating their collective loyalty to their protector 39 40.
Calamity and Recovery
When the sky collapsed amid the aftermath of the Witch-Demon conflict, the already vulnerable Human Race was displaced and again became prey for wild beasts. Nuwa acted to repair the sky, while Jiang Chen located the Ao Turtle to support the heavens; after the disaster was resolved, the surviving tribes emerged to rebuild 137 138.
Jiang Chen's status subsequently eclipsed even Nuwa's among many humans. Sage Emperor Temples were built alongside Nuwa Temples, with the former eventually receiving greater worship due to Jiang Chen's protection, inventions, and role in preserving the race 139 200.
Defiance of the Heavenly Court
When Nine Heavens Xuannü arrived on behalf of the Heavenly Court and demanded that the Human Race submit, the Suiren Tribe rejected her proposal. Its elders and members invoked Jiang Chen's name, refused to kneel under her pressure, and called upon Nuwa for aid 218 219.
Nuwa intervened to protect the tribe, and Jiang Chen later revealed himself to confront Xuannü. His appearance reassured the Human Race and reinforced the belief that their Sage Emperor would protect them from outside oppression 220 221.

Society and Culture
- Tribal organization — The Human Race was historically divided among many tribes. External danger prevented major intertribal wars for a time, but friction and competition remained common 255.
- Suiren Tribe — A major and highly cohesive human tribe associated with Suiren Shi, Jiang Chen's early reforms, Fuxi's rise, and many later political events 23 241.
- Fire and cooking — Jiang Chen taught Suiren Shi to drill wood for fire, ending reliance on raw food. Later, pottery enabled steaming and boiling, reducing illness 25 282.
- Writing and record-keeping — Jiang Chen created writing to preserve the Human Race's inheritance. Fuxi later introduced line-based records as a more accessible replacement for knot-tying 25 268.
- Marriage and surnames — Fuxi established one-to-one marriage customs, betrothal and dowry practices, and surnames based on place of residence to distinguish kinship and prevent incest 268.
- Expansion — Defined ancestry and surnames allowed groups to branch out without losing their connection to the original tribes. Human settlements eventually spread throughout the Primordial Era 267 268.
- Agriculture and labor — By the later era, most humans worked as farmers and laborers rather than cultivators, occupying much of the land while cultivators secluded themselves in blessed territories 288.
- Cultivation decline — Ordinary later humans generally lacked suitable constitutions and cultivation methods, contrasting with the stronger innate Dao bodies of the first generation 203 288.
Alliances and Hostilities
- Nuwa — Creator of the Human Race. She initially neglected them because of her ties to the Demon Race, but later protected them during the Heavenly Court dispute and shared in the Merit produced by their major developments 137 220 286.
- Jiang Chen — A first-generation human and the race's Sage Emperor. The Human Race regards him as its greatest protector and source of security, offering him faith and worship through Sage Emperor Temples 202 203 216.
- Tongtian — Jiang Chen's master. Tongtian agreed to look after the Human Race if necessary and entrusted Fuxi and the race to Duobao's guidance 267.
- Dragon Clan — Fuxi forged a generational alliance with the East Sea Dragon Clan. The Dragon Clan's control of weather brought favorable conditions and timely rain to human tribes 269 270.
- Witch Race — An early ally. Though the alliance initially opposed the Demon Race, continued cooperation produced genuine friendship, and Chi You was instructed to remain friendly toward humans 194.
- Demon Race — A longstanding enemy that treated humans as food and repeatedly sought their extermination. Jiang Chen's intervention ended major demon threats against the race 26 39 40.
- Heavenly Court — Regarded with distrust due to its association with prior persecution. The Suiren Tribe refused Nine Heavens Xuannü's demand for submission 218 219.
Destiny and Prosperity
The birth of Fuxi triggered auspicious signs across Human Race tribes and was recognized by powerful figures as evidence that the Human Race's Destiny was rising 239 240. Jiang Chen used the Kongtong Seal to suppress and stabilize the Destiny of both the Human Race and the Intercepting Sect 243.
Following the achievements of Fuxi, Shennong, and Xuanyuan, the Human Race became civilized, united, and prosperous. With Nuwa and Jiang Chen as protectors, it stood as the undisputed protagonist of the Primordial Era, and other races avoided provoking it 286 288.
