Nature of Pangu

Pangu is both the traditional creator of the Primordial Era and the highest achievement available to a Da Luo. The name is explained as “Pan,” to manipulate or smooth out, and “Gu,” meaning epoch or time: a Pangu reshapes an era, governs its past and future, and makes history conform to their will 30 224.

The position is not exclusive to one being. A Da Luo who wins the era’s Dao contention, overwhelms or gains the consent of competing Da Luo, and controls the epoch may attain Pangu; multiple Pangus can coexist after proving the achievement 226 227.

Eighty-One Transformations

Pangu’s creation is composed of eighty-one transformations, each representing an achiever whose accomplishment became part of the heaven-opening feat. Fuxi identifies his human-bodied, dragon-tailed form as one such transformation and stresses that “Pangu is Fuxi, but Fuxi is just Fuxi227.

  • The traditional battle against the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods represents successful Pangu contenders clearing opposition during their ascent 227.
  • Later Pangus generally reflect the central theme and needs of their respective eras, particularly the state of the Human Dao 245.
  • The title serves as a milestone that directs Grand Unity beings toward the ultimate goal of shaping an eternal Primordial Era 227.

Background / History

The earliest account records that Pangu created heaven and earth, forming the Primordial Era. After the world’s opening, residual blood from Chaos Demon Gods became fierce beasts and began the Fierce Beast Tribulation 15.

According to the traditional account, Pangu split Chaos with the Heaven-Opening Divine Axe, slew the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods, and exhausted himself in creation. His flesh and blood became mountains and rivers; his eyes became the sun and moon; his breath became wind and thunder; and his body enriched the new universe 18 23 39.

Pangu’s creation did more than establish a physical world. He suppressed the informational influence of other Grand Unity beings, spreading stability and harmony so ordinary life could exist without being overwhelmed by their corrupting presence 48. His creation also established the framework through which time, space, parallel worlds, and epochs could continue cycling 30.

Later revelations complicate the origin myth. The Primordial Era could arise from Chaos by chance, but its survival required a “hero” who seized possibility from Chaos, established order, and enabled the world to endure eternally. That civilizational achievement became the myth and standard of Pangu 678.

Appearance

Pangu has no single fixed form, as the title can be embodied by different achievers and manifestations. His original appearance is largely indescribable to beings beneath his level 694.

  • His manifested form can stand between heaven and earth with its head piercing the starry sky, stars resembling its hair, and its shadow covering the River of Time 177.
  • The Pangu manifested against Rahu resembles Fuxi by roughly seven or eight parts 201.
  • A Pangu True Body may retain a blurred or obscured face even when its physical form has solidified 177.
  • His left eye became the sun and his right eye became the moon after the creation of heaven and earth 23.
  • Buzhou Mountain is traditionally described as having formed from Pangu’s spine, though its history is later revealed to be more complicated 828.

Abilities & Authority

Heaven-Opening

Pangu’s defining feat is opening heaven and earth, ending the Chaos era and establishing the Primordial Era’s order 15 30.

  • The Heaven-Opening Divine Axe shattered the laws of Chaos and buried the prior epoch 30.
  • Its act of creation derived the Innate Five Primes: spirit, qi, form, quality, and body 30.
  • The resulting Primordial Era encompasses countless temporal-spatial dimensions, heavens, epochs, and parallel worlds 30.

Supreme Grand Unity Authority

A true Pangu possesses authority over an era’s history, order, and causal structure.

  • Can manipulate epochs, time, space, and the past, present, and future 30.
  • Can establish rules from the result backward to the origin, embodying Grand Unity’s reversal of cause and effect 227.
  • Can reshape or create vast numbers of timelines and worlds from the thoughts of sentient beings 531.
  • Can lock down Grand Unity beings across time and space at the level of their Innate Undying Spiritual Light 248.
  • Represents a qualitative level above ordinary Grand Unity beings; the gap is compared to that between Grand Unity and those beneath it 694.

Suppression of Chaos and Grand Unity Information

Pangu defeated and suppressed the Three Thousand Grand Unity/Chaos Demon Gods, preventing their information from destabilizing the world 23 48.

  • His stabilizing information allows beings below Grand Unity to exist normally and perceive Grand Unity beings without immediate corruption 48.
  • His legacy inspires fear even among Grand Unity Heavenly Wills and Ancient God Great Sages 176 219.
  • Rahu’s “forgetting” technique could blur and banish Pangu’s manifested body, but it could not overcome Pangu directly through force 202.

Pangu Dharma Image and True Body

Pangu’s descendants and successors can manifest incomplete or reconstructed versions of his form.

  • The Twelve Ancestral Witches can use their shared bloodline to summon Pangu’s Dharma Image 177.
  • By turning their bodies into twelve drops of blood and merging them into the Dharma Image, they can give it a physical body 177.
  • This body lacks Pangu’s own soul; the Twelve Ancestral Witches jointly control it through unified consciousness 177.
  • Nuwa later commands a True Body created from twelve drops of Pangu’s essence blood, Blood Rebirth, and twelve rule Daos 537 676.
  • Such reconstructed bodies are immensely powerful but may be inferior to a true Pangu and can be dismantled by disrupting their essence blood, creation process, and rule framework 537 694.

Legacy and Relics

  • Heaven-Opening Divine Axe — Pangu’s creation weapon, used to split Chaos and establish the Primordial Era 30.
  • Pangu Banner — One of the three supreme treasures formed from the shattered Heaven-Opening Divine Axe; bears responsibility for creation and the motion of the Five Primes 30.
  • Tai Ji Diagram — One of the axe’s three remnants; represents existence and the state of “being” within the Primordial Era 30.
  • Chaos Bell — One of the axe’s three remnants; embodies temporal and spatial transformation, capable of trapping Grand Unity beings in endlessly multiplying time-space labyrinths 30.
  • Pangu’s Essence Blood — The foundational material used by the Witch Clan and Nuwa to manifest or reconstruct Pangu’s True Body 177 676.
  • Pangu’s Left Eye — Manifested by the Witch Clan’s Curse Department as Pangu’s Eye, a detection technique that can observe across immense distances and dimensions 23.

Relationships

  • Fuxi — An achiever and transformation of Pangu who explains that the title is a contested Da Luo position rather than a single permanent identity 226 227.
  • Witch Clan — Pangu’s bloodline inheritors; even ordinary Witch Clan Golden Immortals possess traces of his power, while the Twelve Ancestral Witches can manifest his Dharma Image and True Body 23 176 177.
  • Houtu — A principal controller of the Twelve Ancestral Witches’ Pangu True Body due to her prestige among them; later associated with Nuwa’s use of Pangu essence blood 177 676.
  • Hongjun — The sentient Heavenly Dao, whose enlightenment and heaven-opening artifact are connected to Pangu’s approval or support 196.
  • Rahu — The Demon Ancestor and Pangu’s ideological opponent; Rahu wagered on the Human Dao’s self-destruction, while Pangu wagered on sentient beings awakening in crisis 203.
  • Nuwa — A major contender for Pangu who uses Pangu’s essence blood and her Creation Dao to construct a True Body and pursue her own path to the title 574 676.
  • Human Dao — Both Pangu’s intended beneficiary and a force capable of constraining Pangu-level beings when its collective will becomes sufficiently powerful 203 868.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Witch Clan Bloodline and Early Invocations

The Witch Clan’s Pangu bloodline allows its Golden Immortals to coordinate lethal attacks against a Grand Unity demon spirit, despite the normal gulf between realms 23. Their Curse Department later resonates with Pangu’s left eye to hunt remnants across worlds and dimensions 23.

During Tai Yi’s battle with Dijiang and Houtu, the Ancestral Witches invoke the inherited image of Pangu’s slaughter of the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods to resist the Chaos Bell’s authority 30.

Witch–Demon War Manifestation

When the Twelve Ancestral Witches combine their blood, Pangu’s Dharma Image develops into a physical True Body. Its mere aura terrifies all living beings, but it remains soulless and dependent on the witches’ shared will 177. Fuxi and the Demon Gods counter it with the Dao Lock, using the Great Heavenly Stellar Array to bind and neutralize its predicted movements 177.

Battle Against Rahu

Hongjun’s integration with the Heavenly Dao and the River of Destiny causes Pangu to manifest before Rahu 201. Pangu silently endures Rahu’s attempt to erase him through oblivion, then defeats the Demon Ancestor with a single axe strike, cleansing the Primordial Era of destruction and darkness 202 203.

Before being expelled from the Primordial Era, Pangu entrusts Feng Xi with a spiritual inheritance and expresses confidence in the future of the Human Dao 203.

Revelation of the Pangu Position

Fuxi reveals that Pangu is an achievement any Da Luo can pursue. Winning requires dominating an era’s Dao contention, suppressing competitors, and gaining the authority to manipulate the epoch 226. He further explains that the famous heaven-opening event was a collective achievement expressed through Pangu’s eighty-one transformations 227.

Later Era Contention

Pangu becomes the central political and spiritual standard of later epochs. Great Powers invoke his legacy for legitimacy, education, and propaganda, while major contenders—including Hongjun, Nuwa, Di Jun, and the Azure Dragon—pursue distinct paths toward the title 280 596 766.

By the later conflict, Pangu-level power is repeatedly reconstructed through essence blood, arrays, and the Human Dao. Even then, the Human Dao is portrayed as capable of judging or restricting a Pangu who acts against the era’s greater will 676 845 868.

Trivia

  • The Witch Clan’s claim to be Pangu’s “true successors” is qualified by the teaching that all beings in the Primordial Era are related to Pangu through the world and life he created 18.
  • The Three Pure Ones use Pangu as the foremost role model in their teachings, indirectly promoting the Witch Clan’s inherited legitimacy 280.
  • Pangu’s public image is so politically valuable that governance, education, and major schemes routinely invoke his creation and sacrifice as a banner of righteousness 391.
