Background / History

Law arrived in Dick City aboard the Heart Pirates’ yellow submarine, seeking the poisonous roots of the Hanging Lantern Vines to cure a plague. His crew included Bepo, who accompanied him ashore and carried his saber, Oni-Kishin. 196 197

He first met Maud in Dick City after Bepo’s confrontation with Belly. The two exchanged names without forming an immediate alliance, though Law was already curious about Maud’s reputation and unusually high bounty. 198

While attempting to steal Hanging Lantern Vine roots during the Coliseum finals, Law confronted Lao G, a former Donquixote Family superior who had repeatedly beaten him in the past. Maud’s intervention saved Law from Lao G, prompting Law to reassess Maud as a possible asset in his eventual revenge against Donquixote Doflamingo. 210 218 219

Law later joined Maud on Lor Island, where he performed relentless surgeries to treat plague victims. The work sharpened his medical precision and Ope Ope Fruit control, while Maud used the crisis as special training for him. 229 235

After mastering Soul Exchange Surgery, Law continued working with Maud and agreed to wait for Maud’s planned large-scale conflict. When Maud called him to Sabaody Archipelago, Law recognized that the coming war would create an opportunity to target Doflamingo. 253 274 367

During the conflict with Doflamingo, Law supported Maud with Room-based transfers despite suffering serious injuries. He remained focused on Doflamingo’s downfall until Maud defeated the Donquixote Family leader. 482 487 489

Law subsequently became one of the Maud Pirates’ principal combatants, surgeons, and researchers. He participated in major operations against the Donquixote Family, Blackbeard Pirates, Beasts Pirates, Marines, and World Government forces. 581 601 818 901 950

Appearance

Law is a tall man with a small beard and a distinctive spotted fur hat. He typically carries his long saber, Oni-Kishin, either in hand or under his arm. 196 198 425

  • Spotted fur hat 198
  • Small beard 198
  • Carries the fast blade Oni-Kishin 197
  • Often maintains a composed, stern expression in combat 595 683

Personality

Law is calm, calculating, and habitually reserved. He speaks bluntly, shows little patience for distractions, and tends to treat Bepo’s enthusiasm with dry irritation rather than open affection. 196 210 682

Despite his detached manner, Law is deeply committed to his crew and allies. He repeatedly spends stamina to extract companions from danger, including Perona, Urouge, Jim, and Maud. 627 685 892 901 954

He is exceptionally driven in both medicine and research. Law endured exhaustive plague-relief surgery to improve his abilities, and later devoted himself to Chimera Research for more than a year, refusing to rest even when urged to do so. 235 857 863

Law is willing to risk his lifespan when necessary, particularly for Maud, whom he regards as the person who saved him from Doflamingo’s forces. 502 503

“My ‘theories’ don’t need proof.” 897

Abilities & Skills

Ope Ope Fruit

Law possesses the Ope Ope Fruit, which allows him to create a spherical operating space known as Room. Within it, he can manipulate targets and objects with surgical precision. 411

  • Transfer — Swaps the positions of people, objects, attacks, or himself within Room. 487 595
  • Spatial slashes — Can launch invisible Ope Ope-enhanced cuts through his saber. 411
  • Soul Exchange Surgery — Exchanges targets’ souls or bodies; mastered ahead of schedule. 253
  • Heart extraction — Removes and preserves living hearts from restrained or unconscious targets. 601 818
  • Slaughterhouse — Disassembles Pacifistas and attaches their parts to other objects, bypassing their regeneration. 901 902
  • Scanning — Uses a small Room for detailed internal examinations, including research on Blackbeard’s unusual body. 604
  • Medical treatment — Treats injuries, removes toxins and foreign matter, and helped cure a plague through repeated surgery. 235 489

Limits

  • Room consumes substantial stamina, especially at wide range or during repeated use. 892 902
  • Extending Room beyond his normal limit can shorten his lifespan. 502 503
  • His ability cannot freely bypass the Haki of conscious, powerful opponents such as Kaido. 818

Swordsmanship

Law fights with the saber Oni-Kishin, combining conventional swordplay with Room’s spatial manipulation. 197 595

  • Uses rapid drawing attacks and long-range slashes. 595 838
  • Creates lethal openings by transferring opponents into the path of allied attacks. 487
  • Can redirect incoming attacks back at an attacker through Transfer. 595

Geppo and Observation Haki

Law mastered Geppo under Maud’s strict training, allowing him to maneuver and halt himself in midair. 841

  • Uses Geppo for aerial repositioning and rapid battlefield movement. 841 897
  • His Observation Haki has limits against superior users; Kizaru was able to anticipate and counter Law’s teleportation rhythm. 683

Mythical Zoan: Yamata no Orochi

Law later acquired the Mythical Zoan Yamata no Orochi as his second Devil Fruit. 897

  • Law believes the fruit may grant up to eight additional lives.
  • He theorizes that a regeneration may restore his stamina to its peak, but this remains unverified. 897

Medical and Chimera Research

Law is a highly capable surgeon whose work extends beyond ordinary treatment. He has researched Devil Fruit extraction, ability transfer, and Chimera modification. 604 770 863

  • Extracted Devil Fruits from defeated ability users, including Orochi. 770
  • Investigated Blackbeard’s body to understand how multiple Devil Fruits might coexist. 604 605
  • Advanced Chimera Research to its final stage after more than a year of work. 863

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Oni-Kishin — Law’s fast blade and primary weapon. 197
  • Polar Dive — The Heart Pirates’ yellow submarine. 196 253
  • Den Den Mushi — Used for long-distance communication with Maud and his crew. 367

Relationships

  • Maud — Ally, benefactor, and frequent combat partner. Maud saved Law from Lao G, trained his Ope Ope Fruit abilities, and later relied on him for surgery, extraction, research, and battlefield support. Law repeatedly risks himself to protect or assist Maud. 218 235 502 954
  • Bepo — Crewmate and close subordinate in the Heart Pirates. Bepo carries Law’s sword, worries openly about him, and is often scolded for acting impulsively. 196 197 682
  • Donquixote Doflamingo — Primary enemy and target of Law’s revenge. Law sought Maud’s strength partly to create a path toward Doflamingo’s defeat. 219 367 487
  • Heart Pirates — Law’s original crew. The Marines captured them to coerce Law into cooperation, making their rescue a central concern for him. 536 539 550
  • Jinbe — Ally who recognizes that Law’s stamina is more valuable for support and extraction than fighting ordinary enemies. 892
  • Kizaru — Recurring Marine opponent. Kizaru exploited the gap between Law’s teleportation and Observation Haki, defeating him during the Impel Down battle. 683
