Personality

Di Jun is an ambitious organizer who presents political unity as a solution to the Primordial World’s disorder. His founding speeches promise protection, laws, and advancement to cultivators regardless of bloodline. He is also pragmatic: he accepts Kunpeng because a Quasi-Sage benefits the Demon Race, restrains Tai Yi’s impulsiveness, and endures humiliating negotiations when he believes the rewards justify them 14 43 48 59.

His concern for the Demon Race coexists with ruthlessness toward outsiders. He orders defeated enemies to surrender or die and authorizes covert attacks on humanity to strengthen the demons against the Witches 34 70. Public humiliation can overcome his caution, as when he joins Tai Yi in challenging Nuwa despite recognizing the danger 53.

The deaths of nine sons turn his resentment toward the Sages into a defining motive. Nevertheless, he can place survival above personal vengeance: he secures Lu Ya’s protection, hides promising young demons, and negotiates with the Witches. Di Jiang ultimately praises his willingness to put his race’s future before old grievances 85 86 96 98.

History

Founding the Demon Race

Before establishing the Demon Race, Di Jun approaches Fuxi about participating in a new racial alliance. Fuxi delays his answer, and both he and Nuwa ultimately refuse to join 11 15.

Di Jun and Tai Yi gather representatives of avian races, beast spirits, plant spirits, and other marginalized groups. Di Jun defines a “demon” as any intelligent living being who has begun cultivation, irrespective of origin or bloodline. With the Heavenly Dao as witness, he declares himself Demon Emperor and Tai Yi Eastern Emperor, using Tai Yi’s Eastern Emperor Bell to suppress the new race’s destiny. Their declaration receives Heavenly Dao Merit 14.

Wars with Dong Wang Gong

Di Jun rejects Dong Wang Gong’s demand for submission by burning his letter. Having anticipated an attack, he prepares the Demon Race to intercept Zizhou Prefecture’s army before it reaches the Sun Star. Tai Yi defeats Dong Wang Gong, and the demons rout his forces 15.

After learning that Dong Wang Gong has framed the demons and attacked the Queen Mother of the West, Di Jun orders a second campaign. He blocks Dong Wang Gong’s escape with the River Diagram and Luo Book, then deploys the Grand Formation of the Stars to break the Myriad Immortals Formation. Dong Wang Gong ultimately self-destructs; Di Jun survives and orders the remaining cultivators to surrender or die 33 34.

Heavenly Court and the Heavenly Marriage

When Heavenly Court appears, Di Jun’s treasures reveal its connection to the Demon Race’s destiny. He and Tai Yi contest its ownership with Nuwa and Qingxuan. Hongjun supports the demons’ claim, but Qingxuan wins a contest against Tai Yi, securing the top three heavens for Nuwa 43 44 45.

Di Jun subsequently seeks a Heavenly Marriage with Xihe and Chang Xi to obtain merit and strengthen his position, but both goddesses reject him. Discovering that Nuwa must officiate with the Red Gauze Ball forces him to approach a recent enemy. Qingxuan extracts treasures amounting to nearly half the Demon Race’s treasury before accepting the task 47 48.

The ceremony receives the Heavenly Dao’s recognition and grants merit, but Di Jun discovers that his brides are disguised Moon Jade Rabbits. Qingxuan publicly exposes the substitution, turning the wedding into a humiliation. Di Jun and Tai Yi retaliate with the Grand Formation of the Stars; Nuwa destroys it and badly injures them. Hongjun intervenes to end the confrontation 51 52 53.

Renewed Expansion and War with the Witches

Determined to overcome the demons’ vulnerability to Sages, Di Jun and Tai Yi persuade the Ten Great Demon Sages to resume competing for providence. They relocate their forces to Heavenly Court while avoiding Nuwa’s Dao Field. Di Jun also accepts the wounded Kunpeng as Demon Teacher and protects him from Zhenyuanzi’s vengeance 58 59.

Witch raids provoke organized demon counterattacks, followed by an assault on Heavenly Court. The Grand Formation of the Stars initially turns the battle in the demons’ favor, but the Witches’ Pangu True Body leaves Di Jun and Tai Yi facing death. Hongjun saves them and imposes a ten-epoch ceasefire, assigning Heaven to the demons and Earth to the Witches 62 63 64 65.

Di Jun accepts Lao Tzu as leader of the Demon Teachings and welcomes him as an equal to the two emperors. With Lao Tzu’s backing, he authorizes disguised demon elites to attack vulnerable human settlements despite Nuwa’s protective decree. He later helps forge the Witch-Slaying Sword from human blood and resentful souls, only for Qingxuan to seize and reforge it as the Human Emperor Sword 69 70 72 73.

The Golden Crow Princes

The acknowledged Heavenly Marriage enables Di Jun to combine yin-yang harmonization energy with his and Tai Yi’s solar origins and the Sun Star’s core power. Ten Golden Crow princes are born after a long gestation, each possessing Grand Unity Golden Immortal cultivation and Solar True Fire. Di Jun seals Tang Valley to keep them from leaving before mastering their powers 79.

After the princes’ birth, Di Jun imprisons the two jade-rabbit brides because they remind him of the wedding’s disgrace. Lao Tzu later exhausts their origins to supply stolen lunar power to the Grand Formation of the Stars 80.

Nine princes subsequently die, leaving Lu Ya as Di Jun’s only surviving son. Qingxuan prevents an immediate retaliatory war by invoking Hongjun’s prohibition. Di Jun investigates the princes’ escape and concludes that the Western Sages—and possibly Lao Tzu—helped cause the disaster. He then invokes Lao Tzu’s obligations to the Demon Race to secure Lu Ya a place as his disciple on Kunlun Mountain 84 85 86.

Resistance to the Sages

When Lao Tzu, Primordial Heavenly Venerate, Jieyin, and Zhunti offer assistance under Hongjun’s decree, Di Jun accepts with outward gratitude while recognizing their competing schemes. He and Tai Yi conceal the formation’s essential controls, develop secret variations, and send talented young demons into a hidden realm to preserve their race 95 96.

Di Jun secretly enters the underworld alone to negotiate with Houtu, Qingxuan, and the Ancestral Witches. He argues that both races have been manipulated toward mutual destruction and proposes moving their final battle to the Western Land. The plan would reduce damage elsewhere while retaliating against the Sages responsible for their suffering. His enemies agree, and he keeps the visit secret even from Tai Yi 97 98.

Final Battle and Death

During the decisive war, Di Jun and the Witches steer their attacks toward Mount Sumeru. Jieyin and Zhunti eventually intervene despite Hongjun’s prohibition, falling into the trap the opposing armies have prepared 100 101.

The conflict escalates when the Heavenly Dao controls the Western Sages and attacks both races. Di Jun entrusts the surviving demons to Tai Yi and begins drawing the formation’s entire stellar power into himself. Lao Tzu attempts to seize control, but Di Jun has neutralized his hidden means of interference 103.

Burning his body and Primordial Spirit, Di Jun draws on the stars’ origin power and detonates the heavens’ stars in a final attack against the Sages. His death ends his reign and the age of Witch–Demon supremacy. Tai Yi leads the remaining demons away 104 105.

Grand Formation of the Stars

Also called the Star Dou Great Formation, this formation is jointly created by Di Jun, Tai Yi, and the Demon Sages through studying the River Diagram and Luo Book and the arrangement of the stars 33.

• Requirements: Uses 365 cultivators at Grand Unity Golden Immortal realm or above, positioned according to the stars 33.
• Offense: Draws down stellar attacks powerful enough to destroy the Myriad Immortals Formation. At full strength, it can annihilate a Quasi-Sage and rival the Primordial realm 33 64.
