Background and History
Great God Pangu created the Primordial Wilderness by splitting heaven and earth. After settling the world, he intended to merge his True Spirit with the Creation Jade Disc—bearer of the Three Thousand Great Daos—to form a complete and impartial Heavenly Dao. Before this could occur, an earthworm-like Chaos Demon God parasitizing Pangu revealed itself; the ensuing conflict shattered the Creation Jade Disc and allowed corrupt black aura from a rift beyond the world to pollute the newborn Heavenly Dao 13.
Pangu ultimately heavily wounded the corrupted Heavenly Dao but exhausted his remaining power. His body transformed into the world’s myriad things, while a remnant Primordial Spirit Imprint remained dormant in essence treasure liquid beneath Buzhou Mountain 13.
The corrupted Heavenly Dao subsequently drove successive tribulations—including the Fierce Beast Tribulation, Dragon-Han Initial Tribulation, and Dao-Demon Conflict—using the fallen beings’ essence blood and dissipated Primordial Spirits as nourishment. Su Ming characterizes the Primordial Wilderness under this order as a “slaughterhouse,” with the Heavenly Dao treating living beings as livestock 13.
By the opening of the story, the conflict between the Witch Clan and the future Demon Clan’s Heavenly Court is already underway at Buzhou Mountain, marking the beginning of the Witch-Demon Calamity 1.
Geography and Realms
Buzhou Mountain
Buzhou Mountain is the spine of Pangu and the foremost divine mountain of the Primordial Wilderness. Its summit vanishes into chaotic currents above the nine heavens, while its base is rooted beyond sight in the earth 1.
The mountain’s pressure is lethal even to ordinary Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals, but Su Ming’s Pangu bloodline allows the pressure to temper his body and awaken dormant power within his lineage 11.
- Pangu Hall — A black, ancient palace at Buzhou Mountain’s foot; its core was the Heart of Pangu, origin of the Twelve Ancestral Magi and the Witch Clan 1.
- Witch Clan ancestral land — The Buzhou region later becomes the Witch Clan’s domain, containing fortified cities and powerful warriors; even ordinary residents possess Heavenly Immortal-level strength 17 99.
- Hidden Pangu legacy — A deep passage within the mountain contains a golden ocean of Pangu Essence, a Pangu Phantom, and the God Slaying Spear that had pinned the phantom in place 12.
- Thirty-Three Heavens — Su Ming searched for this heavenly pivot from Buzhou’s peak but found only Chaos Wind and spatial turbulence at that time 11.
Shouyang Mountain
Shouyang Mountain is a prime feng shui treasure land containing nine top-grade Innate Spiritual Veins and an Ancestor Dragon Vein. The Kongtong Seal emerged from the mountain, drawing millions of cultivators from across the Primordial Wilderness 50.
Eastern Sea
The Eastern Sea contains numerous contested opportunities and concealed spaces.
- Wuyi Mountain — Site of the Treasure-Dropping Golden Coin’s emergence, which attracted rogue cultivators, Demon Race figures, and several Primordial Unity Golden Immortals into a deadly struggle 21 22.
- Three Immortal Islands — Penglai, Yingzhou, and Fangzhang contain rare spiritual roots, Chaos-derived resources, and high-grade treasures 87 89 91.
- Ancient Chaos space — A hidden seabed passage led Su Ming into an independent chaos space. It was later identified as the internal world of the Chaos Bead rather than ordinary Chaos beyond the Heavenly Dao 83 84 85.
Netherworld
The Netherworld is formed when Houtu establishes the Six Paths of Reincarnation in the Land of Reincarnation. The realm connects with the Primordial World’s origin and earth veins, completing the cycle of heaven and earth 143.
- Fengdu City — Established as the Underworld’s core after Houtu becomes the Lord of the Earthly Dao 154.
- Underworld order — Its planned offices include the Five Ghost Emperors, Ten Halls of Yama, Judges, Black and White Impermanence, Ox-Head and Horse-Face, Underworld Soldiers, and Ghost Messengers 155.
- Six Paths — The Path of Heaven and Devas, Humans, Asuras, Beasts, Hungry Ghosts, and Hell; the upper three reward good, while the lower three punish evil 143.
North Pole
The North Sea and northern land are stabilized when the Chaos Mysterious Turtle reincarnates as the Sacred Beast Xuanwu. Xuanwu permanently suppresses the North Pole and regulates the world’s water veins 167.
Cosmic Order
Heavenly Dao
The Heavenly Dao was originally meant to be a perfect and impartial order, but its incomplete origin was polluted after the Creation Jade Disc shattered 13.
- The Heavenly Dao is portrayed as possessing selfish intent and resisting any power beyond its control 18.
- It seeks strength through recurring tribulations and the deaths of Primordial beings 13.
- Its will manifests as a black eye within the Heavenly Dao Origin space and reacts with rage to actions that disrupt its designs 167.
- Hongjun is identified by Su Ming as the Chaos Demon God who worked with the Heavenly Dao against Pangu and later hides in Purple Cloud Palace 18.
Great Dao
The Great Dao stands as a higher witness to major acts of creation and world-ordering.
- Houtu invokes the Great Dao when establishing the Six Paths of Reincarnation, receiving immeasurable merit 143.
- The Great Dao recognizes the creation of a Great Thousand World within the Chaos Bead and sends Sky-Opening Merit and Primordial Chaos Qi 171.
Laws and Cultivation
The Primordial Wilderness is governed by the Three Thousand Great Daos, including time, space, yin and yang, and the five elements 15.
Named cultivation stages include:

|---|---|
| Grand Unity Golden Immortal | Su Ming reaches this realm during his initial cultivation of the Nine Revolutions Primordial Art 2. |
| Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal | A major watershed where one can entrust the true spirit to the void and endure through countless kalpas unless struck by calamity or Saint-level intervention 3. |
| Quasi-Saint | A high realm sought by many major powers; Primordial Violet Qi is described as a path toward sainthood for those who use it 7. |
| Primordial Golden Immortal | Houtu reaches this realm after establishing and consolidating the Underworld 143 154. |
