Background / History

Huang Hao was originally a frustrated Honkai Impact 3rd player upset by the deaths of characters he cared about. After falling asleep, he awakened near the Imaginary Tree and the Quantum Sea with black flames attached to his hand. Attempting to use the flames to return home instead led him to a blank space, where he concluded that his power could be used to preserve people he killed. 1

The Imaginary Tree subsequently led him into the Previous Civilization, where Moth to the Flame personnel found him at the center of a meteor crater. Although the surrounding area was saturated with Honkai Energy, he had none detectable on his body. 2

During his earliest days in the Previous Civilization, Huang Hao tested his powers with ruthless detachment. He killed a city guard, transferred the guard’s consciousness into the blank space, and restored him to his body. After learning the space had a limited capacity and required victims to be personally killed by his flames, he considered killing an entire city to preserve its inhabitants there. 3

Seeking to change the future he knew, Huang Hao created Angela as a companion and daughter-like figure, naming his black flames “Amaterasu.” He began tracking the appearance of Herrschers in order to protect Moth to the Flame and the people he knew from the original timeline. 4

His first confrontation with the Herrscher of Ice exposed his limits; he was forced onto the defensive until Angela brought Qian Jie to assist him. The encounter began Huang Hao’s friendship with Qian Jie and convinced him that he needed greater strength. 5 6

After training with Angela and the Imaginary Tree, Huang Hao began using Amaterasu to save civilians killed in Honkai attacks. He later supplied Moth to the Flame with plans for Fusion Warriors and Divine Keys, became a Fusion Warrior himself, and eventually formally joined the organization. 7 9 15

Huang Hao killed the Herrscher of Flame, Himiko, in a single strike, then secretly restored her and honored his promise to let Hua meet her again. His willingness to kill allies or enemies as a means of rescuing them became a recurring part of his methods. 13

During the Rock Herrscher crisis, Huang Hao warned Moth to the Flame about Mu Continent’s destruction, but the organization’s delayed response contributed to heavy civilian casualties. The Will of Honkai exploited his guilt and his fear that he had failed to change anything, pushing him into a mental collapse. 16 21

While Huang Hao’s consciousness was trapped in an internal confrontation, his body was overtaken by an unknown force and brutally defeated the Rock Herrscher. His allies later fought to restrain him, while Qian Jie entered his consciousness and helped him reject the entity controlling him. The incident left Huang Hao weakened, exhausted, and deeply uncertain about the meaning of his actions. 23 26

He later entrusted Angela with handling the Herrscher of Domination, but returned when she was corrupted. Huang Hao took responsibility for confronting her himself, believing her condition was connected to his own past failure. He subsequently seized the Key of Blank and destroyed a gathering of Herrschers alone. 29 31 32

Five years later, Huang Hao had risen into Moth to the Flame’s leadership through his battlefield record and his efforts to stabilize public thought. Despite maintaining a habitual smile and stronger ties with his comrades, he remained troubled by unanswered questions surrounding his identity, guilt, and purpose. 33

When trapped again by the Honkai Will, Huang Hao chose “absolute rationality” over paralysis and helped coordinate the final battle from within the sealed space. He trained Pardofelis to channel his energy into barrier-breaking arrows, accepting the personal cost in order to reduce casualties. 42 48

Appearance

Huang Hao later adopts an entirely black, deliberately mysterious outfit, completed by a black face mask that leaves him unrecognizable. He is still wearing this attire while his unconscious body battles the Rock Herrscher. 9 23

Personality

Huang Hao is adaptable, sarcastic, and prone to treating extraordinary situations with gamer-like humor. He quickly recognizes familiar events from the world he entered and repeatedly uses that knowledge to anticipate Herrscher attacks, Moth to the Flame projects, and likely casualties. 1 16 19

His morality is conflicted. Early on, he kills without remorse and treats death as reversible because of the blank space, but Angela’s compassion and the consequences of the Mu Continent disaster push him toward a more serious desire to protect civilians. 3 7 18 21

He is intensely protective of Angela and repeatedly prioritizes her safety over cooperation with others. However, he also burdens her with dangerous responsibilities when he believes he cannot act himself. 14 26 29 47
