Background

Huang Hao creates Angela after deciding that he needs a conscious companion and someone capable of reminding him of important events. He names her Angela after an unsuccessful attempt to recreate Ai-chan, and she begins calling him “Father.” Although Huang Hao asks her to call him “brother” in public, he quickly comes to regard her as his daughter. 4 5

Initially, Angela considers herself only a creation and believes that her use of “Father” comes from inherited memory. Huang Hao rejects this view, telling her that she became his beloved child the first time she called him Father. 7 Her inherited memories later become a source of vulnerability: the Will of Honkai claims that Angela was modeled after another person named Angela and made as a substitute for Huang Hao’s lost love. 30
