Background / History
Cooler was Frieza's older brother and the leader of the Cooler Force. Unlike Frieza, who conquered and sold planets, Cooler was driven by destruction for its own sake; he destroyed countless worlds across the North Galaxy simply because he wanted to watch them perish. His prolonged campaign became severe enough that other Kaiō complained to North Kai about him. 96
He commanded an elite unit known as the Cooler Armored Squad, originally composed of Sauza, Neiz, and Dore. Each member had a battle power exceeding 150,000, but all three were defeated when Talot, Selari, and Raditz confronted Cooler on an Aqua Blue Planet. 96 97
Personality
Cooler was calm, calculating, and cruel. He took pleasure in planetary destruction and in psychologically tormenting enemies rather than killing them immediately. During his first fight with Talot, he deliberately tried to crush Talot's will by displaying the overwhelming gap created by his final form. 96 98
Unlike Frieza, Cooler could analyze opponents and learn from battle. After Talot escaped the destruction of the Aqua Blue Planet, Cooler repeatedly reviewed footage of their clash to understand Instant Transmission. His inability to decipher the technique drove him to search the North Galaxy for its origin. 99 119
He was also ambitious within his own family. He considered secretly using Instant Transmission to eliminate Frieza and take Frieza's place as the universe's agent of destruction. 119
Appearance
Cooler had the physical traits associated with Frieza's race, including a tail, red eyes, and a powerful armored body. His final transformation made his body bulkier and greatly intensified his oppressive aura. 96 98
- Possessed crimson-red eyes and a tail. 96 97
- Wore the uniform and insignia of the Cooler Force. 96
- His final form was larger and considerably more muscular than his ordinary state. 98
- His transformed aura was described as dark, evil, and terrifying. 96 121
Abilities & Skills
Final Transformation
Cooler possessed a final form beyond Frieza's known transformations. It raised his battle power to 470 million during his first battle with Talot and beyond 500 million by the Yardrat conflict. 98 119 121
- Overpowered Talot's Great Ape Power and Kaio-ken-enhanced attacks. 98
- Could casually disperse Talot's energy attacks after transforming. 98
- Retained enough control to torture opponents rather than immediately kill them. 98
- Was ultimately surpassed by Talot's combined Super Saiyan, Great Ape, and Natural Power states. 121
Death Beam
Cooler could fire concentrated piercing energy beams from his fingertips.
- A single beam was stated to be capable of killing a fighter with 500,000 battle power. 97
- Fired volleys of Death Beams against Talot. 97
- Used Death Beams to counter Talot's Spiral Splitting Bullets. 98
- Could not reliably strike Talot after Talot employed Instant Transmission and Invisibility. 121
Death Energy Cannon
A powerful energy blast used against Talot during both of their battles.
- Nearly destroyed Talot during their first confrontation. 98
- Its pressure helped trigger Talot's partial Super Saiyan awakening. 98
- Was ineffective against Talot's Instant Transmission during the Yardrat battle. 121
Supernova
Cooler's ultimate planetary-destruction technique.
- Created a massive energy sphere roughly one kilometer in diameter. 98
- Used it to destroy the Aqua Blue Planet and attempt to eliminate Talot. 98
- Talot escaped the attack with Instant Transmission. 89 99
Psychic Power
Cooler possessed telekinetic abilities characteristic of his race.
- Lifted an entire mountain with psychic power during his second fight with Talot. 120
- Used the technique offensively, though Talot regarded it as poorly suited to their high-speed battle. 120
Combat Analysis
Cooler studied opponents rather than relying solely on raw power.
- Reviewed recordings of his battle with Talot to analyze Talot's techniques. 99
- Identified Talot's golden hair and emerald eyes as evidence of the Super Saiyan legend. 99
- Sought out Planet Yardrat after learning that Talot's teleportation technique was called Instant Transmission. 119

- King Cold — Father. Cooler kept his final form's true power hidden even from him. 97
- Talot — Enemy and the Saiyan responsible for Cooler's death. Cooler first attempted to recruit him, then became determined to eliminate him as a Super Saiyan threat. 97 99 121
- Sauza — Right-hand man and member of the Cooler Armored Squad. 96
- Neiz — Member of the Cooler Armored Squad, defeated by Selari. 96 97

- North Kai — Opposed Cooler's campaign of destruction in the North Galaxy and guided Talot to confront him. 96 119
Story Role / Major Arcs
First battle with Talot
Cooler arrived at an Aqua Blue Planet intending to destroy its inhabitants. Talot, Selari, and Raditz intercepted him, with Talot defeating Dore while Selari and Raditz overcame the other Armored Squad members. 96 97
Cooler attempted to recruit Talot by offering him leadership of the Saiyans and promising to eventually kill Frieza. Talot refused, declaring that he would send both brothers to Hell instead. 97
Talot pushed Cooler with Great Ape Power and Kaio-ken, reaching 180 million battle power. Cooler eventually revealed his 470-million final form and dominated the fight. Under the pressure of Cooler's attacks, Talot partially awakened Super Saiyan power, then escaped Cooler's Supernova with Instant Transmission. 97 98 99
Hunt for Instant Transmission
After the battle, Cooler reviewed recorded footage and recognized Talot as a Super Saiyan. He became obsessed with Talot's teleportation technique and remained in the North Galaxy searching for its source. 99 119
When a subordinate reported that Yardratians could use Instant Transmission, Cooler targeted Planet Yardrat. He promoted Lavisa to rebuild the Armored Squad and diverted his forces toward the planet. 119
Invasion of Planet Yardrat and death
Cooler invaded Yardrat in pursuit of Instant Transmission, but Talot arrived beforehand to defend the Yardratians. Their second battle began with Cooler matching Super Saiyan Talot without transforming, using a base battle power exceeding 250 million. 120
Cooler entered his final form after Talot pressured him, but Talot countered with Great Ape Power, Instant Transmission, Invisibility, and Yardratian Natural Power. Talot ultimately trapped Cooler in a Royal Flush Energy Ball, which annihilated him down to his last cell. 121
Cooler's death alarmed both Frieza and King Cold. Frieza learned that a Super Saiyan had killed his brother and began training in response. 122
Rebellion in Hell
Cooler later caused an uprising in Hell, which Talot suppressed alongside Raditz and Selari. 123
Trivia
- Cooler regarded Talot's Instant Transmission as more valuable than simple escape, believing it could enable him to assassinate Frieza without being discovered. 99 119
- He believed Talot, Selari, and Raditz had died in the Aqua Blue Planet's destruction, then realized they had survived after hearing of powerful Saiyans killing Turles. 119
- His final realization before death was that his refusal to train and reliance on natural power had made him the “hopeless fool.” 121
