Somewhere in the universe, Thanos's base.
Today was a special day for everyone in the base.
Thanos, the last hope of the Eternals, had brought back an infant from his homeworld, Titan—a genuine infant.
His name was Beckett, a baby boy with a red tail growing from his backside.
Before the four generals of the Dark Order, Thanos formally announced that Beckett was his adopted son. Although Ebony Maw's examination had confirmed that the boy did not belong to the Eternals.
A lifeform that was not of the Titan race had appeared on the devastated Titan. As the strategist of Thanos's legion, Ebony Maw instinctively sensed that something was wrong. But when he saw the meaningful look in his lord Thanos's eyes, he immediately swallowed the question that had reached his lips.
Thanos was his boss, the only sky over this dark territory. If he said it was so, then it was so. Disagree? The snow-white bones buried beneath the floating throne were the best example.
Ebony Maw did not consider himself tired of living, so chanting praises for Thanos to celebrate his gaining another adopted son became the next thing he had to do.
Unable to fight against Thanos's thick, powerful leg with his tiny arms and legs, the infant Beckett could only lie quietly in Thanos's arms, coldly watching the strange demons beneath the throne, all of whom were singing Thanos's praises in different postures.
To little Beckett, these people looked no different from the demons and monsters in his mother's bedtime stories. Every one of them was bizarrely shaped.
Especially the group of four standing beneath the throne,
There was one so skinny he looked like a gust of wind could blow him over;
One held a long blade, wore a vicious expression, and had a tattered cape draped over him;
One carried a massive battle axe and looked like a big, dumb brute, while the last was a woman who seemed the most normal only because of the other three.
Little Beckett really wanted to know what they were babbling about, but unfortunately, he could not understand a word. He did not know where he was, what these people were saying, or what the man who had carried him out of the ruins intended to do with him. His little brain could not handle so many thoughts, either.
An infant's capacity for thought was ultimately limited. Having crossed time and space by some strange twist of fate, little Beckett eventually fell into a deep sleep, consumed by longing for his mother.
Seated upon the throne, Thanos fixed his gaze on the sleeping Beckett, the corners of his mouth curling upward. He did not know where this child had come from, but he knew the child had practically witnessed the fall of Titan with his own eyes. In the catastrophe that had swept across the entire planet, countless powerful Titans had been reduced to cosmic dust. Yet this infant, who was not of the Titan race, had barely escaped disaster.
Was this not fate?
Especially after Thanos sensed the enormous potential contained within that tiny body, he became even more convinced that he was destined for greatness.
This was fate's choice. The will of the universe had caused them to meet in the unseen currents of destiny. At the very moment he had become ever more resolute in his lifelong ideal, fate had delivered a child with the talent of a powerful warrior to his side.
Thanos believed this was the universe's recognition of him, as well as its encouragement.
This road would not be easy, but Thanos was still willing to press onward, no matter how heavy a price he had to pay. The road was winding, but the future was bright.
Three years later, the Sanctuary, Thanos's domain.
Now three years old, Beckett wore a combat suit specially made for him by Thanos as he staggered to his feet amid a stretch of ruins. The blood at the corner of his mouth had yet to be wiped away when his small body suffered another heavy blow.
A fist carrying tremendous force blasted little Beckett, who had only just gotten back up, into the ruins behind him once more. His red tail drooped, having lost all the liveliness it had possessed when the two had first begun fighting.
"Get up, Beckett."
After retracting his fist, Thanos clasped his hands behind his back and stared at the wreckage covering the ground. Fallen stones had completely buried Beckett's small body, leaving only a short section of his red tail exposed within Thanos's sight.
"Rustle..."
A few pebbles fell from above along with Thanos's words. After several seconds of silence, the small body buried beneath the rubble began to struggle as Beckett gritted his teeth and forced himself up.
The rubble could bury his body, but it could not bury the fiercely burning fighting spirit in his heart.
Though his face was young, it was carved with determination, and the unyielding light in his eyes had never faded. No matter how many beatings Thanos had given him over the past year, it had remained unchanged.
He, Beckett, the last hope of the Saiyans, could not fall here.
Over the past three years, he had fully witnessed Thanos's strength. Leading his four generals in campaigns across the stars, Thanos had never suffered defeat. Therefore, Beckett wanted to learn how to fight from his adoptive father, Thanos, and then kill Frieza, who had fled to some unknown hiding place.
"Very good, Beckett. You passed this assessment."
Thanos, standing with his hands behind his back, was very satisfied with Beckett's performance.
As expected of the combat prodigy fate had sent to his side. Since the age of two, Beckett had been able to endure his special training, and after a year, the three-year-old's rate of improvement had been nothing short of astonishing.
In particular, every time Beckett recovered from severe injuries, his combat ability would undergo a massive increase. Thanos did not know what race Beckett belonged to, but in his view, this race was simply born for battle.
Born to fight, growing stronger with every battle.
Even Thanos could not estimate the upper limit of Beckett's potential.
Only...
Thanos glanced at the tail swaying behind Beckett. This tail seemed to be the weakness of Beckett's race.
But that did not stump Thanos, who hailed from Titan. From the day Beckett had been adopted, the old father, having noticed the weakness in Beckett's physique, used his knowledge-cursed mind to formulate a nutrient solution specially for Beckett.
It specifically treated the problem of a child's tail becoming weak and limp.
By now, Beckett's tail was no longer his weakness. On the contrary, it had become one of his means of launching unexpected attacks.
"Come. Go receive treatment." Thanos had completely lost the coldness he had displayed while testing Beckett earlier. The kindly smile on his face made him seem like a completely different person.
The treatment Thanos mentioned was another program he had tailored specifically for Beckett. After discovering that Beckett's strength increased dramatically every time he took a stroll through death's door and returned, Thanos had designed an extreme treatment regimen around this trait.
"Yes, Father." A brilliant smile appeared on Beckett's young face. Once again, he had passed his adoptive father Thanos's assessment.
After returning to the base and taking off his tattered combat suit, naked Beckett put on a specially made breathing apparatus, leaped forward, and submerged himself in the green liquid Thanos had named the Fountain of Life.
Green was the color of natural life.
This had become Beckett's compulsory course over the past year. Whether or not he had fought Thanos, after every training session he had to soak in the Fountain of Life to recover from his injuries. According to Thanos, the Fountain of Life could not only restore him to full health but also effectively extend his lifespan.
In other words, whenever Beckett soaked in the Fountain of Life, his lifespan continued to increase. Thanos had developed it specifically for him after examining Beckett's estimated life-force report. Compared with the things Ebony Maw and the others used from time to time, it was far more effective.
It got approved, huh? That was a little fast~
