Background / History

One of the Chitauri's few highly intelligent lifeforms, The Other had participated in dozens of wars before aligning himself with Thanos. He betrayed the former Chitauri King, guided Beckett through the royal palace, and helped enable the King's assassination. Beckett's victory elevated The Other to the Chitauri throne. 16 18

He initially attached himself to Beckett out of pragmatism: Beckett's favor promised security, resources, and access to Thanos. After Beckett entrusted him with the Mind Stone-embedded scepter, however, The Other regarded that trust as a personal obligation and pledged his family’s service to Beckett. 18 94

During the conflict with Malekith, The Other appeared to betray Beckett, then used the Mind Stone at the cost of his life to repel Malekith and free Beckett and Hela. The exertion incinerated him completely. 126 138

Beckett later recovered biological tissue containing The Other's residual core data and acquired the self-evolving mechanical component SM-404. By combining the Mind Stone, Reality Stone, Aether particles, and the component, Beckett successfully resurrected him. 138 146 148 149

The Other is openly sycophantic, ambitious, and highly conscious of rank. He habitually celebrates Beckett's achievements, seeks opportunities to demonstrate his value, and worries that more capable followers will displace him as Beckett's foremost minister. 18 88 432 436
