Across the vast plain, the atmosphere grew increasingly heavy with the arrival of the Frost Giant army. Ice spikes filled the sky, glinting beautifully beneath the setting sun as they flew straight for their targets—Hela Odinsdottir, daughter of Odin, and Beckett, Son of Thanos.
"Give up struggling obediently. That way, perhaps you can at least die with some dignity. I don't think Odin would want to see his daughter chopped into pieces."
Waving the Frost Giant Axe in his hand, Milner led the soldiers behind him as they steadily compressed his targets' space to move.
"And you. I don't know who you are, but since you helped us out, merciful as I am, I can give you the chance to end your own life. Well? Satisfied?"
The sharp edge of Milner's axe pointed at Beckett. The moment his words fell, Beckett neither dodged nor retreated, instead smashing apart the ice spike flying toward him.
"I hate it when people point weapons at me." Rising after landing, Beckett shook the ice shards from his hands, the killing intent in his words growing ever thicker.
These two weren't together?
Hela, who had casually summoned a shield before herself, watched Beckett, who was likewise within the Frost Giants' attack range, and frowned deeply. Earlier, she had led her squad in slaughtering the garrison responsible for defending this plain. After destroying the Giants' large-scale weapons buried here, she had been preparing to leave when she encountered Beckett's fleet. Naturally, she had taken them for enemy reinforcements. Yet judging by the current situation, it seemed she had guessed wrong.
Did someone in this universe really bring an entire fleet through a battlefield?
Hela had truly never seen such a thing in all her life.
"Since that's how it is, then you can be chopped into pieces alongside Hela Odinsdottir." With a broad wave of his hand, Milner sent the Frost Giants, already poised to attack, roaring toward the two of them.
Faced with the Giants flooding toward him, Beckett showed no intention of retreating. Instead, he chose to meet them head-on.
Indescribable excitement and extraordinary calm supported Beckett as he darted and weaved through the crowd of Giants. Every punch either killed or crippled.
"Trading wounds for wounds. Admirable courage. But it's useless."
"There are only two of you, while we are an entire army." Standing alone at the rear of the army, Milner stared at the two figures fighting desperately amid the battlefield. He bared his teeth in an especially cruel smile.
The gap in numbers was not something that could be erased so easily, especially when both of them were already injured.
Compared to Beckett, who only grew fiercer with every battle and paid no heed to the accumulating wounds on his body, Hela's situation on the other side was clearly much worse. Asgardians indeed possessed remarkable regenerative abilities, but that was under the condition that they could recover in peace. Already drained by Beckett, she was beginning to struggle against the massed assault of the Frost Giants.
The shield bearing Asgard's emblem was torn apart. Under the siege of the Frost Giants, the severely injured Hela finally began to show signs of exhaustion.
"Your end has come, Hela Odinsdottir." Milner, who had waited a long time for this moment, let out a howl toward the sky. He leaped high, his thick arm swinging the battle axe bestowed upon him by his leader Laufey, straight down toward Hela's head!
Though he was rather curious about the monkey weaving through combat with his men, Milner had not forgotten who his greatest enemy was.
Clang!
The magical metal Hela hastily formed with her will shattered beneath Milner's chop, becoming a shower of fragments that carved bloody wounds across her body. Completely losing her balance, Hela crashed to the ground, the intricate patterns on her Battle Suit stained with blood from the plain.
"Hah..."
Struggling to steady her breathing, Hela tried to rise, only for a body flying toward her to slam directly into her the next instant. Both of them fell to the ground.
"Cough, cough..."
Beckett coughed, a mouthful of blood staining the shattered silver armor on his chest red. He staggered to his feet.
"Don't you have eyes?" Having finally caught her breath only to be nearly smashed to death again by Beckett's body, Hela staggered upright, her temper gradually flaring.
"I should be saying that to you." Beckett casually tore away the armor that had already been shattered beyond recognition, completely unmoved by Hela's words.
"..." If she had not needed Beckett to help draw fire for her, Hela truly wanted to stab him in the chest.
"Your strength has made me see you in a new light, stranger." Having led his army to completely surround Beckett and Hela, Milner held his giant axe and watched Beckett shed his armor with great interest. He was genuinely surprised.
"I can give you one chance. As long as you kill Hela Odinsdottir yourself, I can recommend you to the king of our Jotunheim—" Before Milner could finish, the armor Beckett threw struck him in the cheek, cutting off his words.
"Looks like your recruitment plan has failed." Standing beside Beckett, Hela looked at Milner's darkened expression as a longsword appeared in her hand.
Asgard had no warriors who clung to life in disgrace.
Hela had understood that truth from the moment Odin took her by his side.
"You talk too much." After throwing away his armor, Beckett bent his knees slightly before suddenly bursting forward. His powerful explosive force brought him before Milner almost instantly, and a fierce roundhouse kick swept straight at Milner's waist!
"Actually, agreeing to him might have been a good choice." Hela spun the longsword in her hand, her figure following close behind Beckett as she plunged into the sea of Frost Giants.
Beckett did not respond.
Sword light flashed, fists and kicks collided. The two, who had never fought together before, gradually found their rhythm under the guidance of their battle instincts.
When people were killed, they died.
After driving her longsword into a Frost Giant soldier's chest, Hela raised her hand, but failed to form another weapon. Looking around, the densely packed Frost Giant soldiers did not seem to have diminished at all.
"Has my strength... run dry?" Hela pulled the scythe embedded in a Frost Giant corpse free and gripped it in her hand, trying hard to calm her ragged breathing.
Bang!
After killing two Giants with his fists, Beckett was sent flying back by a blow from Milner's axe and landed beside Hela.
"Overestimating yourselves." Milner weighed the giant axe in his hand, his face full of contempt.
"Hey, are you dead?" Hela poked Beckett's fallen body with the tip of her foot.
"Not even close." His face covered in blood, Beckett struggled to his feet. The smile at the corner of his mouth looked somewhat terrifying against the blood. The upper half of his Battle Suit had been completely shredded into strips, revealing sharply defined muscles and countless wounds.
Some had been left by Hela, while others had been left by the Frost Giants.
Damn, it was already eleven by the time I got back. Better hurry up and write a chapter to calm myself down...
By the time I finished, it was 12:40... Shower time, then sleep. That promised double update can wait until tomorrow...
I'm exhausted. I transferred after getting off Line 3, but ended up missing the last train on Line 13...
